  1. As a Christian, I have no problem believing this. There are a lot of secret societies and cults out there that maintain their following mostly through word of mouth, secret meetings and rituals, and hidden texts. People are often attracted to the bizarre or what they perceive as novel, so it is hardly surprising that this "religion" would be passed down from generation to generation. You see it popping up in the 1800s and early 1900s in things like the Hell Fire Club, Aleister Crowley, occult groups, etc. And it often appears in the circles of the rich, who probably turn to it because they are bored and are seeking excitement. By the way, I have had conversations with a gnostic. It is painful how they twist everything to fit their world view.

  2. The irony of all this is the Joachim of Flora blatantly ignored that the Jesus said that self-proclaimed prophets (like Joachim of Flora) were not to be followed, and they would fool the very elect. So much for being a biblical scholar.
