@MrBonako why the homophobia? Why should someone as 'strong' as Putin care who a man or woman loves? How insecure do you have to be, to persecute people just for loving someone? How sad...
60
@paulwalker427 because they're fighting a far larger force. The fact they've held out this long against one of the largest armed forces on the planet is incredible, and pretty embarrassing for Russia.
33
Why? It happened for hundreds of years prior to WWI
20
Molten copper is literally just how shaped charges work, forming a beam of plasma. This is a modication of that, as explained in the video, to better penetrate cage armour.
19
Krembots get easier to spot every day
19
@ivancho5854 exactly, because the gas masks of the time were primitive, thus we had to make personnel shave to ensure their safety. Now, thanks to advances in materials and technology, we don't require our personnel to shave because kit like this exists, so there is no need to enforce a facial hair ban, except to appease those with sensitive feelings over what another man grows on his face.
17
Turkey is a NATO ally. Can't see that going down well with other NATO members. Also, after so many years of being attacked and killed by Cyriot EOKA terrorists, and the wider independence movement, I'm guessing British political and military sentiment wasn't particular pro risking more British lives to assist Cypriots at the time.
15
Doing what he did last time, filling his team with loyal yes men, until they speak out against him, then he'll fire them like last time. The guy is a narcissistic egomaniac.
14
You really think they're giving any actual operational information away here?
14
They don't wear it on ops, genius, they have helmets for that
13
Anyone can buy one of those patches, they're not restricted to US personnel
13
@Dingdangdoo why? Losing some in a war doesn't make them pointless, that's just war.
11
If you genuinely don't think the UK has a lot of freedom, you really need to get out more.
11
Ah yes, the person who spent his last time in office celebrating and fan-girling the dictators of the world is the one that's going to keep us all safe... obviously
11
Anything is an easy target if you use it poorly, don't plan effectively, etc. Thankfully, we put more effort into protecting our kit that people seem to think.
11
Training the ships crew is not time wasted. The air wing are doing their own work-up on the other carrier, as this one shakes down any mechanical snags before CSG25 next year. The theoretical capacity is exactly that, theoretical. Only the US ever deploy with that kind of air wing. It also doesn't take into account deck and hangar space being used for other aircraft or storage. The French, probably a good comparison to the UK in this regard, usually embark between 15-25 jets on actual ops, and less for training or exercises.
10
Why would they be embarked on this carrier, when it's not the one involved in the current air wing work-up? What a pointless waste of resources that would be, just to appease the "hurr durr no aircraft" crowd.
10
What air threat is the UK currently under that would require an air defence destroyer?
10
You've missed out the US in that timeline
10
Tbf accidents happen. The US lost the USS Bonhome Richard to a fire in port
10
Then we use tents. This procedure doesn't mean we stop using tents completely, just that we don't immediately default to that option.
10
@davidrobertsemail that's because it was going to the US for trials, and those trials were conducted with USMC/RAF test and evaluation aircraft based in the US. Meanwhile, UK-based F-35s remained here to continue their routine training, rather than embarking on a pointless journey for no reason. There was zero need for embarked aircraft during either transit. It is a carrier with aircraft, but those aircraft are only embarked when actually needed, not just for a jolly across the Atlantic.
10
@davidrobertsemail give it a rest. Why would they embark aircraft for a deployment that didn't require them? That wastes personnel, increases costs and maintenance, and reduces the number in the UK that could conduct useful training. It is a carrier with aircraft, but they only embark when actually needed, like any sensible individual would understand.
10
Thales is pronounced Tal-iss Starstreak was designed by Shorts Missile Systems of Belfast, before it was bought by Thales, so is indeed a British weapon system.
10
@meme4one why not? Coastline doesn’t dictate the extent of a nation
9
Maybe they should try hiding it under a dock crane, like the Russian one
9
Do PCSOs have the largest combined military strength of any organisation on the planet?
9
@Jimmythefish577 standard uninformed nonsense
9
Cheers dits.
9
Not sure we need an Indian clean sheet design when this one is ready to go
9
Can you try to at least make the rambling coherent?
9
@MrBonako what's with the homophobia, Ivan?
9
They have been, as have many other nations
8
How so?
8
Yes, but every new bit of kit needs certifying. "This is how we've always done it previously" when applied to newer equipment hasn't always worked out very well
8
@co8498 that's the same for UK forces. This is just a development to allow those with religious reasons not to need to.
8
@Sjsuisbacsp because they're British citizens. To gain a UK passport you must be a citizen.
8
British citizens should be offered the chance to evacuate by the government. Many of the Brits living there are aid/charity workers, etc.
8
@meme4one if those hospitals are also being used for other purposes (C2, military storage, etc) they're no longer protected buildings under the law of armed conflict
8
@davidrobertsemail correct, it has no aircraft on it in this clip, as is the case any time it enters port under normal circumstances.
8
They embarked when it got to the US, and disembarked before it returned home.
8
Sims greatly reduce the need for live hours, and have come a hell of a long way since the cold war. As for Leeming, the Hawks are jointly owned by Qatar and the UK, feeding pilots into the joint RAF-Qatari Typhoons of 12 Sqn. The money Qatar have paid for this to happen has paid for many of our own pilots training, as well as radar upgrades to Typhoon that we can now take full advantage of with much less development cost.
8
@lachlanchester8142 when a joke is made, do let us know
8
No one said its going to entirely replace MERT, but kit like this could supplement the demand very nicely, especially if they allow a stabilised casualty to reach medical care within the golden hour.
8
Flying characteristics and ease to operate are different things to capability. Being an airbus aircraft with a lot of automation, the thing is pretty care-free to operate.
8
@leeanderironside1898 haha awful take, Ivan
8
This isn't true, or they wouldn't bother aptitude testing RAF pilots before recruiting them.
7
It's not without F-35s, they're just embarked as required, which isn't the case here.
7
Why would it be? Russia has had ICBMs and other ballistic missile classes for decades, carried over from the Soviet days.
7
Pushing the obvious Kremlin propaganda line? Useful idiots are a gift to Russia.
