You will also notice she kept glancing at the side thru out the whole “interview”. I’m not a body language expert but you can clearly see she is very very nervous and someone is clearly coaching her on what to say.

  3. I agree, learning Chinese is a good idea but in my opinion the best Chinese is to learn traditional Chinese from teachers in Taiwan. Once you learn traditional Mandarin, learning simplified Mandarin becomes a lot easier as there is a reduction of strokes instead of addition of strokes. The reduction of stroke was done to encourage literacy (learning Chinese writing can be a challenge). Personally I find the traditional form more eloquent and beautiful than the simplified version.

  4. It’s called “Bystander Effect”. Basically for us in the west when we see someone in distress we automatically try to help that person. In China the mentality is “its not someone I know so why should I care” or “its not my business, so I don’t want to bother with it, let someone else deal with it”. It’s society wide apathy syndrome. Remember the case of Yueyue, the 2 year old girl who got hit by a car twice in a row because nobody bothered to help her out until she perished. In an interview with the driver, he basically said if she died, he would only pay 20,000 yuan in penalties, if she lived and is crippled he had to pay 100,000 yuan. It’s a heartless society devoid of compassion. And I agree, Taiwan is completely different, people actually care. Traditional Chinese values are intact in Taiwan while in China it is decimated and replace with extreme materialism.

  8. It’s true Mao Zedong once said he isn’t afraid of a nuclear attack on China because he said, even if half of all the people in China die, as long as the CCP regime survives then all is well. Mao also thanked Japan for invading China during WWII, he said Japan doesn’t need to apologize because without the invasion the KMT would have won the Chinese civil war. Japan’s invasion of China severely weakened the KMT while the CCP hid in the mountains biding their time. This one was well chronicled during a meeting between Mao Zedong and Japanese ambassador in the 1970s. Why is Xi cracking down right now? Because he felt the CCP regime is losing its grip on Chinese civil social society and economy. The CCP’s survival is at stake, ironically all this crackdown in fact is weakening the CCP even further. This is what it looks like during the end of a dynasty. The ruling regime is doing everything it can in order to grab hold to power at any cost.

  11. According to an ex-STRATFOR geopolitical analyst I have been listening in on podcast ... China will cease to exist as a sovereign state as it is in about 10 years. Just 5 years ago the analysis was the chance of China invading Taiwan is about less than 5%, today the prediction has risen to 30% so yeah... war between Taiwan/US allies and China maybe inevitable in the very near future. 30% chance of war in the Taiwan strait is pretty dire. The political calculus has drastically changed, the thinking then was "time is on our side, we will take Taiwan without firing a shot by 2050". Nowadays the political calculus is "if we don't take Taiwan now we might not have the financial and manpower to do so by 2050".

  18.  @李荣-n7s  When you say “political dynasty” it isn’t just transfer of power from father to son (that would be monarchy) but rather political power is invested upon a small circle of elite politically connected families. For example: Xi Jinping’s father is already a well connected CCP official in the 1950s although they have fallen in and out of favor with the ruling power of that time which is Mao Zedong. Almost all of the CCP high ranking members have parents that are part of the CCP bureaucracy. So they are groomed to take over their parent’s position when they grow up. It’s very rare to have a complete upstart come up from the bottom echelon. Just like warlords clans from ancient China, it is still the same. Although CCP is one party, it is comprise of different factions (or ruling families and factions each with their own interests). In a way China’s current politics still somewhat resemble the situation of the Three Kingdoms with various provinces having loyalty to one faction of “CCP warlord”. This is why they are called “princelings” in a way they are CCP bureaucratic prince.

Sadly Hokkien and Cantonese speakers are shrinking and would become an extinct language if nothing is done.

  22.  @arthritis2718  The US does have a massive gun violence problem the main difference is gun violence is perpetrated by insane people with mental problems due to lack of gun control because of political corruption while the CCP is the one perpetuating the Cultural eradication of the Tibetans, Mongolians and Uyghurs. Another main difference is the US is always trying to make a positive change for the future...sometimes the good guys wins and sometimes the bad guys win. In China the CCP are the sole authority and they are the ones doing the bad things like mass incarceration in concentration camps, destruction of cultural heritage sites, mass organ harvesting and millions of political prisoners not to mention mass silencing and murder of critics (remember Liu Xiaobo!). Not to mention the opaque broken judicial system and lack of rule of law. Here's news for you: Rule of law means the law applies to everyone or no one. It doesn't mean the law only applies to whoever the CCP says it applies to.

  28.  @李荣-n7s  Political dynasty is a bad practice that is why it is discouraged. I think Deng got it right, institutional rule and term limits is better. Not saying democracy is perfect. The only difference between democracy and authoritarianism is in democracy a bad leader can be removed easily (like Trump) with minimal or no bloodshed. In authoritarianism system to remove a bad leader often requires bloodshed and revolution.

He basically printed 2 copies of the same serial number approved for official circulation. One set was submitted for official use by the government while another set he kept in his home for his personal use. This was billions of dollars worth in RMB.

  43.  Giang Truong  There is no such thing as “deep state”. That’s just a boogeyman. Whenever you say deep state you lose all credibility. Corruption, yes there is corruption. But there are more good politicians than bad ones. If you say all US politicians are bad, that’s the same as saying all CCP are bad which is not true as there are both good and bad politicians even in one party. The question is whether those who are good outnumber those who are bad or vice versa. If your understanding of politics is limited to only “all US politicians are bad and corrupt” then you are simple minded and I don’t need to hear from you anymore.

  46. These are the last decade of the CCP in power. As history have shown China's dynastic collapse tends to be slow burn and then rapidly. It will take years or even decades, those little systemic failures often adds up until a sudden rapid collapse. If you remember the Qing dynasty didn't collapse immediately in 1911. The start of the collapse took decades since the late 1800s due to systemic failures until it culminated in the Wuchang Uprising (it happened in Wuchang District in Wuhan, Hubei). There were hundreds of small revolts that were suppressed brutally by the Qing dynasty soldiers. The CCP is yet another Chinese dynasty and their downfall will be the same -- systemic and will take decades but when it finally happens it will be swift, brutal and extremely violent.
