most Hispanics are caucasians. only a few are native anericans. most of them are of Spanish decent. that's what the word "hispanic" means.

+Sergio… I know mexico, like most every nation on earth these days, comprises of many different races and ethnicities. but the largest ethnic group in mexico, and throughout latin America, is that of Spanish decent. just like in the U.S. its british. I went to school with several Mexican americans and i'll tell you what, if it wasn't for their last names you could never tell they were Mexican or hispanic. that's because most Hispanics are of Spanish (European) decent. its the Hispanic culture, which is largely based upon Spanish culture, that differentiates latin America from the U.S and Canada - whose culture is based largely on british traditions. if we all spoke the same language and followed the same traditions you would hardly be able to tell apart anyone in the western hemisphere.

no, the irish aren't british. and you're right. they say over 30% are of german decent and 30% are irish. but i'm afraid that's BS! I guess it depends on how they define "decent." but no, 60 to 70% of americans aren't german and irish. that's just stupid unless the Pennsylvania dutch have grown to 100 million people - and I don't believe they have. use you're brain man. learn to differentiate between reality and lies. the surnames smith and jones are the most common surnames for a reason.

+JoAnne... like I said, I guess it depends on how to define decent. the English, Dutch, Austrians, Swiss and Scandinavians are all Germanic peoples. but if you're referring only to people from germany just when are these people supposed to have come here? many germans came just prior to ww2. but most of these were jews. are you counting the jewish germans as jews or german? many germans came after ww2 but in neither case was it enough of a migration to give them 35% of our population. you can believe as you wish but unless you're including ALL Germanic peoples, as listed above, germans do NOT make up 35% of the American population. that would mean there are more germans here than in germany. now I know there are more irish in the U.S than in Ireland but that statistic doesn't apply to germans.

+joanne… who's talking about theories? I was just wondering when all these 100 million germans were supposed to have come here. you answered my question. but your answer doesn't account for the claim you and, apparently, the census bureau are making. the English, Scotts, the Spanish and French were coming here centuries before that and in greater numbers. i'm just one of those people who refuse to accept illogic regardless of who's trying to get me to accept it. there aren't more germans in the U.S. than in germany. and, unless the census bureau uses some bizarre method of determining decent, germans are not the largest ethic group the U.S.
