I have so much genuine hate in my heart over the way society has bastardized the term pedophilia, as if we can take one of the most ancient and widespread taboos in human history (even Ancient Rome, which was a perverts paradise, had laws against doing a girl under 12 or boy under 14) and hijack it to pretend it's something as arbitrary as the drinking age. Everyone knows what pedophilia really means, because if someone said "I realized I was a pedophile at 14 year old", no one is going to think that means he felt attraction to his peers. But most people feign ignorance to save face, and pretend to believe it has something to do with the modern, legal definition of adulthood.

Most men are attracted to people who meet the legal definition of childhood because the legal definition of childhood is not based on biology and was not embraced by any society in the entire fucking world up until 100 years ago. The idea of 18 has an adult is completely arbitrary, unscientific, and existed in no society on Earth until about 100 years ago. You dawned the "Toga of Manhood" at 14 in Ancient Rome. Traditional Jewish culture considers you a man at 13, hence Bar Mitzvahs. Quincenera's mark the transition to womanhood at 15. "Statutory rape" (as its defined today) was far more common in the 1950s than the 1970s, but all we ever hear about is how these couples lived happily ever after. The 1970s is when we said "25 year old men shouldn't marry teenagers because that's creepy, but teenagers should screw like rabbits because being a virgin is for losers." THAT started what we recognized immediately as a public health crisis.

Back when I was young I thought like you, but now I realize adulthood proceeds maturity, not the other way around. Maturity isn't just something that sprouts up like body hair. Teenagers are more miserable than any time in history because they are being treated like children more than any time in history. Most people just don't understand the Hedonist Paradox. But as someone who grew up a pampered rich kid and didn't get his first job until 23, I understand it perfectly.

If two people commit a crime, we don't try them based on the relative age of their accomplice. If an 18 year old can consent to be sent to war by a 65 year old man, he/she can certainly consent to sleep with one.
