Nation is the "in group". Your society. How far out you are willing to go with it is variable, but at some level it is a correct statement. One thing remains certain. There is always the "out group". Could be the capitalists, the bourgeoisie, the reactionaries, the people who do not share your cultural values, so you kick them out of your "nation". Socialism and nationalism are related. A nation is a society, after all.

@bludfyre " National part is more important than the Socialism part " Those are two sides of the same coin. A nation is a society, so nationalism is partially socialism by its very definition. Then, every socialistic movement defines and ostracizes the out-group. Those, who do not fit in. Those, they need to "reeducate", or even eradicate. The out-group definitions and "reeducation" methods change, but the pattern is still there. I can't see how Nazis were not a part of it.

@ironinquisitor3656 I'm not sure you understand the context of why those ladies matter. You stated, that Nazis were socialist only economically, while culturally they were much further to the right. That's a lie. Nazis also culturally were quite far to the left even by our standards. By the standards of their days, they were quite extreme.

Libertarians don't give one hoot about skin colors. Neither do monarchists. They gladly accept subjects of the crown in whichever shape or form they might come. On the other hand, Karl Marx was fervently antisemitic. Yes, some nationalists are racist, but nationalism is not a far right movement. Nation is a society. Nationalism is related to socialism, by definition.

The absolute vast majority of prisoners in Auschwitz were the so called "Aryans". The Poles, for the most part. The Jewish people were sent to Birkenau, which was much bigger and the conditions in there were much worse. No "Arbeit macht frei" welcoming sign either. You all should read Borowski, who was the prisoner in Auschwitz, and it was a required reading back when I was in high school.

Among other things, she piloted an experimental rocket powered glider, that killed more Germans than the allies. There is a clip of her taking off in that thing. Leni Refenstahl is still studied in filmmaking schools. She directed most of the Nazi propaganda footage you have seen on History Channel, or wherever else. The most iconic stuff is all hers. Melitta Schenk Gräfin von Stauffenberg was a test pilot too. Fancy name, for sure, she married well. Her father converted to Christianity, though.

Anarcho-authoritarian and conservative-progressive axes also make sense. So because a more accurate picture requires at least three axes, it's simply easier to stick to a simple left-right representation. It's close enough and works reasonably well, as long as we do not mislabel e.g. social-democrats as "far left" or nationalists as "far right".

He wanted to dismantle nation based societies in favor of class based society. However, that's only one type of socialism. There were others. National socialism, tribal socialism, religious socialism, maybe more. " US would be inherently Socialist, because it's a nation. it's not. " They have public schools, public roads, some form of public health care, social help programs, very high taxes and largely centrally governed economy. Whether you like it or not, USA is quite socialistic.

They believed that international socialism won't work, since it's gonna get inevitable corrupted by the unwanted races of people. But they did believe in, endorse and implement national socialism.

@Jaxorian " redistribution models don't scale to larger than at the household size " That's not true. There were plenty of tribes which worked on socialist principles. Very little private property, all resources are shared, those who game the system face cultural pressure, up to and including being banned from the tribe. Redistribution fails when you need a governing body which does the redistribution. Or, obviously, when people involved do not share the cultural values required for this model to work. Then it can fail at any scale.

@phreakinxenon All factories were under very strict state control. The state decided what they produced, how much, for how much they were allowed to sell the products, how much they had to pay the workers, whom they had to hire, so forth. If the capitalist did not follow those detailed instructions, the factory was taken from him and he was replaced with a party member. Hitler preferred keeping the former owners in charge, simply because they were more competent and took more care. I remember reading a talk he had with a prominent socialist in the party. The other guy was against this scheme and wanted full nationalization, while Hitler tried to explain that his way is simply better and achieves exactly the same goal.
