Correction: 22, and not 20, BJP CMs took oath under Modi-Shah's watch. I forgot to include Goa CMs- Laxmikant Parsekar and late Manohar Parrikar. Regret the error. Thank you, Kemil Kania, for pointing it out.

Two corrections: RG is likely to become Congress president in September 2022, not in 2017, and the data is available for 10 years, not decades. Regret the slips of the tongue.

Haha...credit goes to my colleague in Chennai, Akshaya. My pronunciations are aweful otherwise 🙂

Admit I should have. Thank you

Stand corrected. Thank you so.much. Remember having asked him about his academic background when I met him first a couple of years ago but my memories are so muddled. Thank you so much for writing.

Hey, I must thank you all for correcting me about how the NTK is not a Dravidian party. Forgive me for being a naive North Indian analyst by birth. But I am really struggling to understand why there is so much fuss about the NTK being a Tamil nationalist party, and not a Dravidian party. I know Seeman has been trying hard to make this distinction. But why a Prabhakaran fan should be seen as more Tamil nationalist than any other Dravidian party. I may be wrong about looking at Dravidian parties linguistically and culturally, if not geographically in today's context. But, seriously, somebody needs to give me a tutorial on the difference between a so-called Tamil nationalist party and a Dravidian party. I must spend at least a year in Tamil Nadu to get rid of my naivete.

Point taken. Will do my next episode of #Poligraph on West Bengal election. Thanks a lot for your feedback

Yes, I did miss Karnataka bypolls. Apologies! What I wanted to say was win or lose Yediyurappa doesn't have much to gain. If the BJP wins both, Bommai will get the credit for pulling it off. And if the party loses Lingayat-dominated seats (almost 60-70 k in each constituency), it would be projected as a validation of how Yediyurappa has lost support on the ground, especially when he forced the high command to make his son one of the in-charges in the Hangal bypoll.

Gandhi siblings' love for him is confounding to me, you and everyone else, in fact. I am ok if they hated Amarinder Singh's guts. A Cong leader advised him to call the then Cong. Pres. "Rahul ji". Capt. snapped: " I am his father's friend. He should call me Uncle." Well, CMs are expected to be the family's regents; they can't behave like sovereigns, no matter who they are. So, if they replaced a regional satrap because they wanted to establish the high command's writ, it's still fine (given the personality/ family cult we, Indian voters, love). We are so used to it, no? But if they did it for Sidhu- someone who can't understand the political implications of hugging a Pakistani army chief and someone who flew back in the middle of an England series because he misunderstood his then captain Azharuddin's words of affection- the Gandhis must be losing it.

Thanks a lot. Always trying to bring you the best I can. Please do tell us when you feel we are slacking. We depend on your feedback to improve, if and when needed. Best,

Yes, thank you. It's a bit fluid right now. Will do a show on Maharashtra later in the day.
8
Oh! Ajit Pawar's age was on my mind. Thank you for pointing it out.
8
Thank you, Mr Iyer. Yes, I do love my journalism. ThePrint does offer a journalist the opportunity and space to write and talk his mind. And it makes our day when we hear from perceptive readers and viewers like you. Thank you for your feedback.
8
Thank you, Dinesh ji. It's upto my organisation to decide but will certainly apprise them of your views.

Main party dekh kar burai nahin karta. Main toh bas aapko bataataa hoon ki hamare politicians kar kya rahe hain...apni taarif karwaane ke liye unke pas bahut saadhan aur medium hain...main isliye aapko thoda doosra side dikhaane ki koshish karta hoon....baaki aapki shraddhaa mere kaam ko pasand kare ya nahin
7
Thank you. A non-existent opposition makes politics so boring
7
Agree with you, Sumit, it's normal. But you are being a bit unfair to a journalist who is just pointing out this normalisation
6
And he is probably the only BJP leader who speaks Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and English. Agree, he should be the BJP's man for the aoith
6
@marthanddhamdere5642 Absolutely. I am just correcting the total number of CMs who took oath (excluding those such as Khattar and Khandu who have got second term in office).
6
Oh, yes. I did miss it. Thank you so much for pointing it out.
6
I won't speculate about why it:s happening but let's welcome the fact that they are raising something that should be a wake-up calls to powers that be
5
Agree. I seem to be slouching here. Need to be attentive. Thank you for pointing it out.

Don't want to comment but can't help pointing out that Yogi is a Mathematics graduate.
5
He is a distinguished academic who has authored so many books on Karnataka. I won't mind reporting to him at all 🙂
5
I dare not sing even at home. Imagine what Shekhar would do to me if he heard me singing!
5
Thank you so much. I couldn't have put it across so well. Yes, my job is to bring out those shades and let the people decide what's right and what's wrong. I really wonder how you understand it so well when many in my fraternity are so confused! Anyway, I sincerely appreciate your understanding and support. Thank you
5
Thank you

Thank you

Admit it, Shrikant. English is not my mother tongue. There are two issues here. First, my show is in English and I can't help it. I don't have that felicity. It's probably because I have spent most of my time in journalism, writing, and not speaking. I have the option of using a teleprompter but somehow I find it intrusive when I am trying to have a direct chat with you. Second, I am not sure if even Hindi will make it easier for me when I want to talk extempore for 13-15 minutes. It's more about organising your thought for a long monologue and I am yet to master it. Please bear with me and try to focus on my contents. Will look forward to your feedback about the contents.
5
Sorry, forgot to talk about it. Just copy-pasting my reply to another viewer but if you don't find it sufficient, please do let me know: Win or lose Yediyurappa doesn't have much to gain.
5
Thank you, RG. Agree, absolutely. The camera angle looks a little awkward. Will be careful the next time
4
Agree, absolutely.. I am never comfortable in front of the camera. Worked with newspapers for 22 years before I decided to become a digital journalist. This transition hasn't really been smooth but can't stop trying now that I am here.
4
Please don't be unfair to us, Sir. De-hyohenated reporting is all that we live for.
4
Thank you so much for your kind words. But please do watch my colleagues like Praveen Swamy, Jyoti Malhotra and many younger colleagues. You will love their shows. What ThePrint has done is to get people with expertise in their domains talk about things in front of the camera. Frankly, none of us thought any big deal about the visual medium until, say, 5-6 years back. We always thought what we wrote for papers was being read by the entire country. I am sure TV anchors also thought the entire country was watching them. Reality check was a shocker for all of us! The transition was, therefore, a bit difficult for us. We know how and where we are lacking in terms of our presentation. But your kind words give us the courage to pursue the course.
4
Malli and Steven, I usually don't watch my show once it's uploaded but your comments made me do that. And I have to agree with you. Thank you. Hope to make it better next time.
4
Thank you. Wish I could! Really envy my friends who are able to write books while doing full-time journalism!
4
Thank you. Yes, we @ThePrint do strive to bring something different to you. Thank you so much for appreciating our efforts.
4
Thank you so much for your encouraging words. Wish I could do it daily but I may not be able to sustain it for long. But I will certainly try to do it more frequently. Thanks again
4
Agree. Really missed out. Should have done this
4
Totally agree, Mr Ranganathan. I won't contest the fact that I may be often ' tentative and defensive', as you point out. Having been a newspaper reporter for over two decades, this think-before-you-speak (write) mantra is difficult to get rid of. I can't have the extravagance of a TV reporter. I sincerely urge you to judge me by my contents. I promise to.bring you the facts and then leave it to you to judge them, regardless of how I present them.
4
@ayushsinha3006 Not at all, Ayush. I really love honest feedbacks. Yes, you were being unfair to me if you were trying to compare me with him because he is a legend in our profession, literally. We don't have any other editor of his stature, knowledge and substance in Indian journalism today.
4
Very interesting thread. Loved your comments. As for my views, I think Modi played a much bigger role than any of these CMs. Except Dhami, all other CMs contributed in their own ways- some more, some less. They do deserve a second term.
4
Thank you, Prempal ji. Thank you for sparing the time to watch it.
4
I keep reading random books- basically, whatever comes my way. But I will certainly try to organise my preferences and share the list. Thanks for making me think about it. I am not a very organised person otherwise 🙂
4
I am afraid you got me wrong. I was always saying the BJP had an edge in Assam although, frankly, I shouldn't have. Not my job to predict. The Congress strategy in Assam, as I still believe, was better than what we have seen elsewhere. But strategies have their limitations in electoral politics and we have seen it in West Begal and many other states. At the end of it, everything boils down to whether the people connect with you- your politics, your ideology and how you have touch their lives as a ruling or opposition party.
4
Exactly my point. The opposition's narrative doesn't go beyond anti-Modism and that's why they sound so hollow
4
Thank you
4
@crs39 That's the only way to know where I am going wrong and how I need to improve. Was a newspaper reporter for over two decades. Still learning the ropes as a multi-media journalist
4
Journalism has no hierarchy. If I can get you interested enough to read what I write or listen to what I say, I am No. 1. If I don't, I am 0. There is nothing in-between. The rest are notions.
4
@28cosmos Thank you so much. The fact is I am equally terrible with my Hindi and French pronunciations. My kids have a field day when I talk but there are certain things we learn to live with 🙂
