John Browning didn't design the 50 cal from scratch. He scaled up the M1917. Are you saying he was lacking in imagination?

@jackmoorehead2036 John Browning did not invent the .50 BMG round. It was developed at the Frankford arsenal. Essentialy as a scaled up .30-06 round. And do you not think that the .5 Ball Mk.1 cartridge did not have to be invented?

@jackmoorehead2036 As I wrote John Browning was a consultant. But, like most of his gun designs, his concept was handed to a team of engineers and technicians to develop to a working design, suitable for mass production. John Moses Browning was a genius, but he did not work alone.

Rolls-Royce developed .50 and .55 machine guns during WW2. The Air Ministry told them to stop messing with guns and concentrate on engines.
