Those meetings happen a lot, because the DoD is incredibly sloppy with how it handles its budget. I'm sure that wasn't the only time that a meeting like that happened.
3
This is the same reason we can't have a public option or medicare for all, it would hurt military recruitment. Not, the fact that the DoD and intelligence agencies are causing the problems that we need the recruits to go in and "fix."
2
Not to mention the essential workers that can't quit, aren't being vaccinated and won't be getting hazard pay.
2
Speaking as somebody who has lived over there, they aren't anywhere near we are in terms of military capabilities and by the time they are, the population will have shrunk enough to make it a relatively fair fight. But, if we pick a fight now, they have enough weapons and military personnel to put a massive hurt on our allies in the region and possibly destroy our economy. It is not a smart move. The better move is to wait until the country collapses under the weight of the incompetent and corrupt leaders and go in with olive branches and offers of assistance for anybody willing to commit to meaningful democratization.
2
Why would they need guns? There were how many people in the mob?
2
@staceymoore779 Yes and if the driver does wind up paying the ticket, it's usually equivalent to a parking citation rather than a moving violation. I assume that's because they don't want to be subjected to countless drivers contesting the situation under which they got the ticket.
2
Ridiculous? I don't think expressing gratitude for showing the girl a level of humanity that the Israelis don't show their hostages isn't entirely unreasonable. We will eventually find out what the truth here is, but it would surprise me if the gratitude isn't in large part appropriate.
2
@siroj1001 It's also worth recognizing that this isn't ISIS we're talking about here, these are mostly just Muslim freedom fighters. The fact that it also helps to undercut the credibility of the IDF right now just makes me more convinced that when the truth comes out that it will largely support the contents of this letter.
2
I think it's pretty clear what's going on. The Israelis are murdering random civilians in retribution, having created this apartheid state where other options are off the table. Really, both sides are engaged in some pretty disgusting actions, but only one side has the ability to stop escalating it and let the whole thing cool down. (Clearly the Israelis, but you wouldn't expect those war criminals to admit it)
2
I don't get why he hasn't been on here more often.
2
There was definitely some luck there as not being vaxxed is asking for trouble. That being said, people sort of assume that you need to get a weeks worth of nutrition in 21 meals spread evenly across the entire week and there's no reason to believe that. You do have to be a bit careful as some nutrients are water soluble and do need to be consumed more regularly, but that's easy enough.
2
Don't worry, they'll find somebody even worse.
2
@cvongall66 Are you for real? If he's not dead, then why have there been no videos from him since? He suddenly lost interest in terrorism? We've still got troops in Saudi Arabia, which was the chief complaint driving the terrorist operations.
2
That's a major issue, another is that the pool of applicants that can pass the fitness requirements has been dipping. If it was just putting ones life on the line for the political aims, that would be one thing, but the things that the military does is often times blatantly illegal under international law.
2
@minuette1752 If the DNC elites hadn't fixed the primary for the second time in a row, it would have been Bernie versus Trump.
2
@marqicewalker1766 Yes, I used to work security and in all honesty, most cops are kind of meh, they're not exactly saints, but they're not exactly the T-1000 looking to terminate all the black folks they encounter either. For the most part, if you simply don't screw with them, they won't screw with you. If you don't escalate it, chances are excellent that they won't escalate it either. Yes, more should be expected of them than random citizens, but that's no excuse for people not wanting to be shot to create excuses to do it.
2
It looked like a demolition because buildings nearly always collapse like that. It's just when explosives are used incorrectly or liquefaction tips a building over that it falls in other ways.
2
It's kind of messed up how his music is probably even more relevant than it was decades ago when it was new.
2
They could have capped the non-educational expenditures by colleges that were accepting those loans and kept it in check, they just chose not to.
2
The only reason to care is that the homeless might figure out where she lives and go burn down her house after taking her outside and hanging her as a traitor. It's going to happen if something doesn't happen to change the trajectory of events.
2
Hyperinflation sucks. Taxes are how the government removes the money they print from the economy.
2
The definition hasn't changed, they reworded it to be less confusing. You'll note that in the first definition includes immunity, but not absolute immunity. There aren't degrees of absolute. In this case, vaccination was never perfect and no credible immunologist should have been saying otherwise. An effective vaccine may cut the cases by nearly 100%, but there's always somebody that doesn't respond strongly enough to get full immunity. Honestly, I like Jimmy, but this is a normal case where the dictionary writers are fixing a definition that was misunderstood about a particularly important word.
2
If Biden had pushed some of the promises that he claims to be making on his site, things like wiping out at least $10k in student debt, adding a robust public option and ensuring that essential workers have priority for PPE, we would know who won by now. Not that he's going to do any of it, if he does, I'll probably drop over dead.
2
Remind me again who supports racism? Perhaps it's time to stop blaming white men for absolutely everything and just limit to things that are actually us.
2
@GhostlyJorg Perhaps they dug up former Lieutenant Governor Charlie Parker of Wisconsin and brought the remains to Massachusetts?
2
@Blksl. The Semites being antisemitic is a new one on me.
2
Perhaps, shadow puppet show would be more appropriate.
2
Of course marijuana is harmful, it's just harmful enough to justify jailtime and ruining people's lives. There's plenty of other things that are legal which are also harmful. Alcohol, sugar and various chemicals that they keep putting in our foods without proper study.
2
@peterwelby And there was a guy recently here who was vaulted over the top of the fence of one of our bridges when a drunk driver crashed into his car and his car pushed him over the edge. Doesn't mean that we need to install netting just in case another drunk driver hits another car that pushes another guy over the edge. Sometimes things are just rare accidents and the like and trying to nerf everything to address those corner cases just makes it worse for everybody involved. We typically spend more money trying to catch welfare fraud that we actually lose in welfare fraud. We'd be better off just letting it go and only going after individuals where there's evidence of something weird going on.
2
You shouldn't, it's bad. This isn't a red team versus blue team situation, there are very real negative consequences that come of these things. And, if they don't stop doing it, the villagers are going to come after you with torches and pitchforks.
2
Same here, my vote doesn't count due to my state being reliably blue, but at least a vote for one of the 3rd party candidates could result in federal recognition.
2
Just to the people in power. Some of us think that both Hamas and the Israelis government are a bunch of horrible people doing horrible things. The difference is that unlike Hamas, the Israelis have the ability to stop escalating this and let things calm down. I doubt very much that Hamas would have popular support if the Israelis would stop murdering innocent civilians and blocking relief from the embargoed areas.
2
To be fair, they need a scapegoat as they have no interest in actually helping people or supporting things that voters support.
2
That's one of the reasons why I'm never voting for Jayapal again. She's a fraud and I'm glad that Jimmy is onto her. I just wish more people were.
2
@collectiveconsciousness5314 Why not? People are pretty OK with the blatant crimes against humanity and our support of authoritarianism when it's convenient.
2
Calling the Greens a party is being incredibly generous. They run for President every 4 years and that's about it. As a party they've showed little interest in running for offices that they could potentially win. Here in WA we have a top 2 primary system, which means that in an awful lot of races the Greens could at least show up in the general election, if not win, but we don't see any of their candidates here. And we've got all sorts of crazy parties showing up on the ballots, including parties that haven't really been at thing since the 19th century. When's the last time you heard about the Whigs doing anything? But, the Whigs are more likely to take the governor's mansion here because they're actually on the ballot for other races from time to time.
2
Bernie had a chance, but he's been fucking it up. The Democrats have more than proven that they can't be reformed as long as the GOP is worse and they're continuing to take corporate money.
2
Yes, but I was disappointed by how long it took to bring up that this whole tape is violence.
2
Lately that is kind of how it works.
2
Why else would he have chosen her? She made a bunch of those races tighter.
2
Bernie really screwed up there. Either that or he intentionally screwed us over. I'm not sure how either of those is acceptable. There's a reason why hardly anybody is showing up at Bernie's rallies these days.
2
Yep, I basically stopped then watching. It's disgusting that they're trying to take credit for Trump and Jimmy.
2
@susanmclane7781 To make matters worse, the "food" that's prevalent now is so highly processed as to make it very hard for our brains to know how much to eat and to crave far more of it than we should be eating.
2
The efficacy rate against transmission isn't anywhere near good enough to end the spread. It would need to be over 90% to have any hope of that.
2
I agree, 18 year olds shouldn't be. As far as raising the age on these weapons, it's part of what we did in Washington, and we haven't had any mass shootings since. Yes, there could still be one using weapons leaked from other states or an older shooter, but there have been hundreds of mass shootings in other states over that same time frame.
2
You forgot the trans people of color.
2
@lashlarue59 He was reaching for a knife, he wasn't simply disobeying orders. I wish people would pay more attention to the circumstances of these deaths rather than immediately jumping to conclusions. Some cases, like George Floyd, are clearly murder by cops. Other cases like Tamir Rice are clearly the result of the deceased doing something incredibly stupid. Anybody that points a realistic looking gun replica or similar at somebody with a real firearm has no right to be shocked about being shot. That is always going to be legal so long as you're allowed to have the firearm in the first place.
2
Jimmy, you're absolutely right about this. I'm working in retail right now and if we started to go to the lengths that David is suggesting, there'd be no end to it. Managers getting bonuses to save money. I can't double bag things because we don't have enough bags and aren't allowed to do it. I remember getting chewed out and cursed at by somebody that called the store and wanted me to price check something for him in case we had the cheapest price. Dude wouldn't even cooperate enough to help. But, I work for him and it's my job to do it. Except that it's not my job and I specifically am not allowed to check prices via the phone.
2
@charles-y2z6c yep, I work at a grocery store and nobody really cares about who donates. If you don't want to, for whatever reason, don't. It's not like you'd be the only one to say no that day. The checker is typically far too busy to invest much concern being l beyond ringing things up.
2
@RealSiViX Even when they aren't, they often get bubbled tot he point where they legitimately have no idea how everybody else lives. That being said, anybody that thinks that billionaires are thousands of times harder working and more efficient than the rest of us should have their head examined. You don't get that wealthy without a bunch of other people doing most of the work.
