Asceticism isn't "self-denial". The fact that this misapprehension continues to persist is a real humdinger. Asceticism is self-mastery. Discipline. All it is. All it ever will be. Anything more is a lacking comprehension. [Not Styx's fault for addressing it this way, though- the comprehension of the concept of being "ascetic" meaning "self-denial" (fasting etc) is a common appurtenance to many factions of misunderstanding that are quite persistent.]

Styx will grow up one day, and realize his speeches were uncoordinated. That'll be the day.

Epicurus was the self-denier extraordinaire. Also a big influence on Marx. But that's just, well, another story.

The idea of "Satan" is as powerful as anything. No "real anthropomorphized entity" necessary.

Well, this depends...is he dumb? He knows that austerities are a waste of time and energy. Any adept worth his salt would know that...the masters attest to this, as well. So when Styx speaks of "asceticism", is it the misunderstanding of it as "austerities" and self-denial, or is it of the actual meaning of the term, being 'self-mastery', and that is, not even necessarily in the common sense [Iron-pilled] but in the sense of 'realization' of powers inherent to occult forces.

Acesis stems from the Greek, for practice/exercise. Writing and editing books and gardening would be, therefore, forms of acesis, q.e.d. -- Styx. I implore to make this correction!! j/k

Sacrifice is just a word that people have twisted insurmountably into something that isn't simply "the making scared of something" - which is what 'sacrifice' actually is. So self-indulgence can be seen as sacrificial...just depends on who you're asking, and what their reasoning is, and whether or not it's sound or not.
