  1. The difference is that the Sudetenland was German (well, Austrian). If the rules that were supposed to have been followed after WW1 had actually been followed, it would have been part of Austria already. The Czechoslovaks decided to go to war to "defend" some territory they shouldn't have had. They lost. (And Czechoslovakia was not exactly well-governed at the time.)
