  1.  @Raskolnikov70  20 years ago, it was the only place I knew where I could get groceries and other merchandise without flitting from store to store, which was nice when out with the baby. Even Wal*Marts did not carry groceries, then. Then again, I live close to Target HQ.

  2. Target was convenient for me 20 years ago. I could drop by and get all my shopping done with my newborn in tow.

  3.  @Raskolnikov70  Perceptive comment! I live east of the St. Croix, and stores developed here much as you said. I miss real department stores and try to avoid big box places, but sometimes it's unavoidable. I've come to frequent Kwik Trips more than I should, telling myself, "Well, they're local," but then again, so is @#$% Menard's, and it is pretty soulless and pricey, and putting mom & pop shops out of business, too.

  4.  @Raskolnikov70  Speaking of groceries, Kroger is trying to become the Amazon of groceries. There is a Kroger warehouse here in NW Wisconsin, despite the fact that nobody ever remembers seeing a Kroger's store in the region, ever. I think I can do without it.
