  21. Hey there Ian . It's my understanding that the BRM's actually used an X-16 Layout . Specifically , Two Flat 8's , Siamesed together One above the other . Geared together into a Common Output Shaft . A much more Compact Package , but still HEAVY . BRM's were NOT renowned for reliability .

Truck STEERING is Worm and Nut type . Power assisted . A standard " Working " Prime-mover/Tractor unit when Bobtail is as fast or Faster than most cars . 2 - 3,000 lb/ft of torque makes it so . They have most of the REAL weight down low , between the Chassis Rails . Handle remarkably well . The Cabs aren't that heavy and are Rubber Mounted . The Brakes are HUGE disc brakes . 16 inch diameter , 2 - 3 inches thick .Tyres are the problem . No such thing as REAL race tyres for a Truck .

  46.  @aussiefirie  . Two things here . One ; Using the SAME IRON Block re-sleeved , how is that going to save weight ? And Two ; They have to Ballast these cars to BE at Minimum Weight . However , I just did a Calculation and think you are RIGHT for the Wrong Reason . 308 Cubic Inches is actually 5.044 Litres . Exceeds the 5 litre limit . So re-sleeving to 304 would get them there .

Your big long nose Peterbilt and your Kenworth 909/950 Prime-movers are perfectly Legal in terms of Wheelbase , BUT , that size of Truck tends to be relegated to pulling 40 foot containers , when operating in URBAN areas . The Combination length is the problem . Easier to work around in Multi-Combination configurations . That was my point all along BTW . I used to see the RMS frequently checking Overall Length on those category of Prime-mover around the Port Area , when running Single trailers . A 20' +40' B-Double is just inside specs . A 32 Pallet B-Double is too long . Running such equipment around the City is uneconomic and not very profitable . Can be LEGALLY DONE , but not sensible to do so . The BIG GEAR is for the Bush . Road-Trains are easy enough to keep in Spec in terms of Length . Weight becomes the Major issue with those , hence all the Tri-axle Dollies and even Triple Drive Prime-Movers .
