  1. The 92 had a frame mounted safety. The 92S, on request of the Italian Police, had a safety-decocker. Beretta put it on the slide because that way the decocker could rotate the tail of the firing pin out of the trajectory of the hammer, and so safely decock the hammer completely (most frame mounted decockers only decock to half-cock).
