For that, or for other reasons, the weapon was very sensible to dirt, and that's the reason why, in the '30s, it was considered obsolete and phased out from first line service by almost all it's previous users. A notable exception was the Dutch army, that originally adopted the weapon as standard LMG in 1920, and it's last version still in 1940.
