  6. I don’t have Netflix (cancelled that sub years ago). I wonder if the “locks” are user specific meaning they see which are your favorite and then “lock” those. For someone else, it would be different. 🤔 Either way, they’re asking to lose a lot of people, I think.

  7. What shocked me most after getting my first job was how random the job application process is (once you're in the job you see it). Applications get lost, applicants mistaken for someone else, petty prejudices (fat people are VERY discriminated against especially by other fat people) and lots of other stupid sh*t. Also a lot of employers don't want to employ someone new they are placating the staff that are covering all the extra hours since the last person left due to breakdown/stress/exhaustion. I'm on job 28, all the ones that were dream jobs I din't get, all the ones I thought had good vibes turned out to be awful places to work, and the ones I took because I was desperate and knew I wouldn't stay long at because I thought everyone would be horrible were the best ones and I stayed years.

  8. I graduated from college in 1983 with a BA. I also had completed an internship so I had “some experience.” Could NOT get a job. So I concluded I needed a Masters degree. Finally that AND some “friends in the business” I got a professional job. So be advised that this situation is not new.

  9. I wasn't able to go to college straight out of high school, I went straight to working a 9-5. Cause my parents couldn't afford it. 20 years later, I'm in the same industry. I can tell you from experience, not having a college degree won't stop a thing. The experience has paid off more than a degree.

  17. I’m a millennial who was born disabled and can’t receive disability benefits even though I was born this way. I’m unable to drive, and live in a city with no public transportation (because they keep voting it down), so I can’t get any work close enough to home. I’ve worked remotely twice in my career, but those assignments weren’t long. I say, if my job can be done on a computer and a headset, let me work remotely! And stop discriminating against people with disabilities who are just as capable as able-bodied people.

  19. Content about content is so boring and has been a tale as old as time. The death of any influencer's interesting content is a move to LA to do content creation. This is especially true for college niche influencers, they gain an audience based off their actual circumstances and that's interesting, then they decide that post-grad traditions aren't for them and their content goes stale because what they built the audience off is no longer there

  21. Having a degree doesn't automatically = experience. That's what many people fail to understand. I have a STEM degree, but I still had to build up some hands-on experience.

  22. My advise to young people, if the thing you wanna study or the job you wanna have is STEM, yes go get a college degree at a community college. If the thing you wanna learn is liberal arts, poetry, photography, psychology, photography, or underwater basket weaving, you can learn those for free in youtube. If you are a guy looking for solid work that pays well and has stability, learn a trade from a trade school.

  23. My father can’t understand why I would say that I regret getting my MBA. I don’t even put it on my resume. I don’t regret my BBA. Masters degree, nowadays, is overkill. If I could go back in time, I would have gotten my CCNA, instead, after my BBA and learned Python. Now this is what I’m doing, along with Cloud. You live and learn. Just be adaptable and pivot to what is in demand. Think how to attain skills that allow you to sell your products / service. HVAC, welding, accounting, web development, etc. Job security is out of the window. Especially white collar administrative positions.

STEM degrees used to be the “answer” but people aren’t understanding that it’s not a key to every lock anymore. The market is over saturated. Which happens anytime someone says “I’ve found the answer!”

  35. This has always been the case. That' why it's important to build relationships with people. You likely have people in your life RIGHT NOW that know someone that knows someone that can help you find a job. However, sometimes people won't risk putting their relationships on the line if you're going to be disrespectful, unprofessional, difficult to communicate with, ungrateful, etc. If you show up ready for business, ready to learn, ready to apply yourself and take instructions, people are happy to make connections on your behalf.

There is merit to the idea that charity should be given privately, but he makes the money he used to help people from YouTube, and any idiot can see that this video would get a lot of views and generate a lot of revenue and bring attention to a charitable organisation. The ends justify the means. He is helping people who need help. I don’t care if he made money from it or not. He’s still helping people. If more people made money from helping others, I feel like the world would be better. Most people only make money for themselves. Imagine if all the billionaires used their money to fix world problems as an offshoot of their profiting on a global scale. How much better off would we all be? I’d much rather give money to programs like the one Mr Beast is running, knowing it is going to a good cause, instead of useless governments and bureaucrats to flush down the toilet.

  39. I think a big factor that plays into this problem is that schools will enroll a student into a specific field that is already saturated with employees. There is no guidance or insight into the current or projected job market by the schools and most kids don’t understand how to find/understand the data that is available. I personally ran into this in my own life choices. Something else that happens because of the over saturation in a market is that jobs are almost impossible to get without a personal in at a company. For instance I have had zero luck getting a job in my field through applications. I was only able to land a job 2 years after graduation (top of my class, BFA) because of an old professor who had a friend looking for work.

  40. This is a double edged sword, blue collar jobs can pay very well if you’re in a union and in a HCOL area. But it’s incredibly difficult to get a spot in a good union if you don’t have internal connections. I am an industrial electrician in a LCOL myself, the pay is alright at best for a journeyman, $25-$35 an hour. It’s better than nothing but its backkkk breaking work and requires a tremendous amount of knowledge. The key here is if you can’t get into a union, use the skills you learn from your job to specialize into a niche trade like instrumentation/controls, PLCs, etc (these are electrical examples). THESE jobs pay good money everywhere, in my case there are controls jobs in my LCOL area paying $45-$55hr.

  41. The jobs are taken already by nepotism. They are just doing interviews for statistical purposes. So, if anyone complaints that they don't hire, they have excuse. We interviewed so many people and found the best candidate . Right 😂 their GF ' s sister or so.

  48. I can only speak from my own experience, so don't be mad at my statement, but I find praying does nothing and wishing does nothing in getting a job, much less an interview. From the 2010's to early 2020's I did all the right things only to be denied, denied and denied. I never took any loans, that I definitely forbade myself to do so even though I came close to while attending college. I worked on my craft, I did job fairs, open houses, and tried selling what I made. And it still wasn't good enough. I can only say this, if you want something done, you have to do it yourself. Because waiting is a fools errand. Just try.
