  7. I know a lot of youtube creationists who have been pushing the Tour series for the past few months. It must be very embarrassing to back someone and have them so thoroughly shown to be uninformed/dishonest? Dave, my favorite part was the "Deceptive Tactics of Id proponents", because you so succinctly summarized exactly what dealing with these people is like. These guy (Tour, Jeanson, Sanford, Carter, Tomkins) have the incredible ability to do decent science when it doesn't threaten their YEC, but revert to a highschool level understanding the moment evolution or abio enters the picture. It's a powerful cognitive dissonance OR a downright chilling deception. And when they do attempt to address the gaping holes of Creationism, it becomes appearent it isn't about answers, but the illusion of answers, if only to placate the flock into believing that "everything is under control, we will be vindicated in the end". Great work!

  12. As someone who is deeply religious - I appreciate your call out in the beginning of the video that this is not a debate on whether or not a deity exists. Something I feel too many religious persons do is try to justify the existence of God using empirical means, when thatā€™s just not possible, and in my opinion, just not meant to be. Religion exists to answer fundamental questions of the soul - our purpose, our destiny, etc. Iā€™ve always tried to keep religion out of the realm of science, as thatā€™s not what itā€™s there to explain. Conversely, the ā€œevidenceā€ of God is intended to be personal and private - something that connects with the soul. I donā€™t believe we will ever look to the stars and see empirical evidence of a God, as itā€™s meant to be a personal discovery. As always, Dave, I appreciate your thoroughness and high quality content, even if we disagree on the existence of God.

  16. I realized, when James was showing that spectra analysis and going "If you're a synthetic chemist, you'll laugh" that... dude's desperate to be respected, huh. He's pretending that his flock are all just like him, professional scientists who think the same way he does, instead of anti-science zealots who want to strip funding from schools and universities. It's why he gets so mad when people criticize him from the angle Dave's been, attacking his competence and ability to read papers, because it hits him right in the sorest spot he's got; the fact that he's thrown away all his credibility to give talks at megachurches. Your followers aren't your people, James. They don't know what you're saying. They're not synthetic chemists, nor are they any type of professional scientist at all. They're looking for any reason to justify their distrust of education and their desire to use political power to influence the direction research takes.   24. How far we've come in just my, as yet short, lifetime. As a teenager they were still mapping the human genome. Now we've figured out how and where to edit that genome to solve diseases. Caution is warranted, but I wish more people were impressed and inspired by this than afraid.

I used to be on the "Ur mean! be more diplomatic!" train, but by now I've watched a large number of intellectuals and kind people patiently sharing their knowledge and life experiences, representing a more rational and compassionate worldview for years. I've watched them waste years of their lives reaching across the table, gritting their teeth and surrendering to the tone policing while everything they are and stand for is under a deliberate, dishonest, cynical and often aggressive attack from people who only care to control their audiences for wealth, power and control. Being nice clearly hasn't worked, seeing the current state of affairs. So I'm all for exposing these people and showing no mercy, whether it's science denial, bigotry or both, as they tend to go hand in hand.

As a Rice student myself, I want to add on and confirm that last semester's class with him was such a drag and it was only your presence that helped me get through it. Whether it was your basic and easy-to-understand videos that filled my knowledge gaps (resulting from precious time wasted on discussing pro-pollutant stances and the process of producing chemical weapons) or your response videos that allowed me to watch my professor get gloriously dunked on, I have much to thank you for, Dave. I'm embarrassed that I watched his videos regularly for over a year. But I'm glad that someone is here to counter his content with critical thinking because for those of us not well versed in cosmology, his videos are an easy and shiny trap to fall into.   37. Professor Dave, I hope my comment makes it to your eyes at some point. I know youā€™re a busy guy so reading every comment on your YouTube channel is likely impossible. But Iā€™ll leave this in the hope that you see it at some point. Mostly I want to say thank you. My daughter has some slight learning disabilities and her mother, my ex wife, is a flat earther. My daughter is 15 but with her learning issues has roughly a 2nd or 3rd grade math and science capability. Her mother had at one point attempted to ā€œteachā€ my kid flat earth garbage. Basically, she was unsuccessful in part because I found your channel. The higher level debunks were a bit over her head, as physics and some other things are a bit out of reach for her still. But your videos that used zero science and only needed observation are the thing that made the switch flip in her brain. So you at bare minimum helped a LOT in saving her from the flat rabbit hole. We watched several of your other debunk videos and a lot of the more intricate science started to stick with her as well. Then, as I searched around on your channel, I found your tutorial videos. Theyā€™re absolutely amazing and are helping her with every aspect of math and science in school. Theyā€™re presented in a way thatā€™s perfect for her. So weā€™ve been going through a bunch of your older videos and hitting all the stuff thatā€™s at her level. And that level is going up very quickly! Plus, itā€™s given her a way to get legitimately interested in science, which had not been the case before. Your channel has become an invaluable resource for my family. I thank you so much!

This is because frankly people don't care and make the effort to understand; or because some explanations are too complex and beyond my level. Hence, I'd like to sincerely thank you for uploading these helpful videos. Without all the glam and hype, you explain concepts in such an easy to understand manner.
