Some puns make me bristle, but yours was a clean sweep

The Packard was probably the best choice possible. Our family had 2 over the years. The last was a Caribbean. I still miss that car.

Congrats! Thanks for showing that history deserves to be remembered.

Though the video is small, I still enjoy. Thanks much!

You mention the movie "Glory" . Really a very good movie. Probably Matthew Broderick's best movie IMO. Also starred Morgan Freeman and a young Denzel Washington for those who may have never seen it.

There is no shuffle There is no shuffle here Here on the North Pole On this quiet dome Sunshine on crystal And milky walls of ice All seem so fragile Under the polar sky (Front 242)

Why did the battleship keep swearing? It had turrets. I just read a book about building battleships. It was riveting. Why do Norwegians have barcodes on their battleships? So they can Scandinavian.

This history lesson is the Bee's knees

The History Guy strikes great nuggets of history in each episode

Sitting at the bottom of the ocean trapped and dying of hypoxia and hypothermia. Suddenly, the escape hatch opens and some guy hands a bunch of salty sailors a free ride to the surface and a box of sandwiches. The response, โHey...what took you so long and why didnโt you bring any napkins?!โ. What balls these guys had! That was the legacy passed on to my generation when I was in the Navy 30 years later. I can only hope we did those guys justice....tough act to follow.

Man I haven't had Salisbury steak since grade school lunch room, lets just say well over 50 years ago! Off to look for a recipe.

I've had two flamingos in my yard for the past 15 years. they remind me of my grandparents who had pink flamingos in their yard as long as I can remember. They make me smile.

Congratulations... It's nice to hear the "golden" words. Wish you "golden" days ahead.
8
Once again, you have fund a piece of history that most of us have not heard of which is interesting and useful. Thank you, THG.
8
I don't mean to alarm you but there was some weird goings on behind you during the beginning. Almost a cat-astrophe

Lance, Well Done and of Course All Good Stories Involve Pirates. Congratulations, History Deserves to Be Remembered...

Sweet video! Thank you for waxing on this subject!
8
History that Deserves to be Remembered...Indeed.

This reminds me of the initial incarnation of this channel with its 5 minute videos. The great irony of gold is the metal's incorruptability. It never tarnishes. Yet what also makes it legendary is its ability to corrupt people.

This brings back memories of my father pouring over maps and tour guides during the winter planning our summer trip. He was born in 1922 and certainly 'the family road trip' was a highlight of his youth. He recalled that when going over one of the Canadian passes in the Rocky Mountains the car couldn't manage the grade. Since all cars were rear wheel drive, you just had to go up that section backwards! And, of course, besides being steep it was also narrow with a drop off on one side.

Is that a storm trooper I see riding a buffalo on the shelf? And is that a Prince Harry bobblehead? I love how you continually change the shelves behind you ๐
8
Please don't ever change your music at the ending I just love It . This episode gives everyone something to think about. Thank you.
8
Congratulations! And cheers!
7
I'm less imprseed with the trip than the man being able to find such a ride or die wife.
7
Another great episode
7
Congratulations! This shows history is still a force that must be reckoned with.

Back in the Saddle Again Naturally ๐ฃ

Congrats mate on a great achievement! I always enjoy the history lessons you present! Especially the obscure history and stories that involve pirates like myself!
7
Awesome video, as always. Please consider also covering the early-WWII battles of East Africa - kinda fascinating and very little covered, I think.

April 29, 1994 marks an important day in history. That's the day my son was born! Happy Birthday David, I llove you!

Thanks! I have an awesome album of the event. Many of my photos are used in the "Command and Control" movie done by Robert Kenner / Eric Schlosser for PBS- TV (On NetFlix too). Rex Hukle and I were the first two guys to enter the Titan II silo after it had been leaking fuel for nearly 8 hours. We're the only two guys in history (to my knowledge) to "break in" to a nuclear missile complex...lol. The launch crew had been evacuated and the SAC commanders wanted us to get inside to a Vapor detection panel that was behind two 6,000 lb blast doors. So, we had to cut through the fence, break through a steel frame door, break through a steel cage door and then go down 35 feet to hook up a hydraulic pump to the first blast door. I honestly can't believe that only one guy died that night. There was so much concrete scattered all over that site, it was amazing.

I had a vision of a coyote running off with Miltonโs trousers thinking โshoot at me will ya. Ya bastard!โ

As hard as it is to believe, there are people who don't enjoy chocolate, especially given the many forms in which it can be eaten or drunk. I've always felt sorry for them. richard -- One of the phrases you are least likely to hear: "That's the banjo player's Porsche."

I have been a private pilot/commercial pilot/flight instructor since 1989. I have parachuted from perfectly good aircraft. I have visited airshows, museums, etc. I've been aboard aircraft carriers, seen an SR-71 land and do fly by's. I've met Frank Boreman of Apollo 8. I've even met Neal Armstrong and had him sign my logbook. I have read countless aviation books and magazines and viewed thousands of videos and I had never heard this story. Thank you, History Guy, for telling about this brave pioneer. He DESERVES to be remembered. Top flight all the way.
