  2. I suggest that the greatest invention of early Man wasn't the bed, but shoes--without them, we wouldn't be able to forage or hunt very successfully at a distance--we'd lose a lot of sleep not eating, comfy bed or not. : ). Maybe do an episode on that?

  9. Having done many family and personal road trips while growing up, and as an adult, I have see all the west and some of the south by automobile. I found myself emotional listening to this episode, imagining such a journey with no proper roads, which I have quite a bit of experience with as a hang glider pilot. But hats off to the gentlemen who did the journey with a ! 4-1/2 ! horsepower engine (basically the size of your lawnmower), in 61 days, where now you can do it in about 5 days-ish. Another one of your best HG Lance.

  10. That chocolate bar is not truly a sensible amount for one person, THG! lol. I'm not that into hershey or mars anymore; we've a truly wonderful chocolatier in town. It's a good thing I'm on a budget! (I'm also trying to switch my chocolate chips to fair trade brands. which are pretty expensive too, but hopefully less exploitative.)

  36. My dad told the story of building a house with an old carpenter in the 1960s. This old guy was using a hammer to drive in the slot head wood screws. Dad asked why he was hammering in the screws. Old guy just shrugged and told him the slot was for taking the screw out, not putting it in. 😂

  46. My family still won’t let me live down the time I was supposed to cut the grass for the first time after a rather snowy winter and wet spring. Not matter how I tried, the gas mower would not start. I checked the gas tank and it was full of the usual faint red fluid and I told my dad the mower was broken. He came out to check the mower and asked the usual questions dads always do when trying to fix a problem, and after 10 futile minutes of trying to start it he began to check over the mower himself. When he looked into the gas tank to see if there was any gas he discovered that it was full of rusty water from sitting outside all winter and spring. After removing all the water and refilling it with real gasoline it fired right up on the second pull. To this day (I’m 66 years old) my younger brother always calls me in the spring to tell me to give tank on my mower a “sniff” test before I use it for the first time every season.
