This video is a fine example of why I insist that engineers should have to work on cars for 5 years before they're allowed to design them.
76
It makes me smile to imagine how many people across the world now sing “doodle-doodle-loo” along with you every time the shop phone rings?! I join in with the ‘Clicks’ and the powering down sounds too. It’s daft, but it amuses me!
76
The Northstar is the perfect example of why Mechanics hate engineers! Have a great day, Sir! And God Bless. o7

Content is great. You explain everything very well, I really love watching your vids. Here's the 'but' though: The music is godawful. If I could make a wish, I'd say keep everything as it is, but drop the added music. I'd rather listen to silence (or sounds of ratchets, dakdaks and so on) than to this (or any sort of) background music. Again: I love your channel.

I watched Eric assemble that Pentastar but he didn't record the boxing of it. I wonder how much he was laughing thinking about you unboxing it. It surely was going to make a safe trip. Looking forward to the installation of the engine. Thanks for the Lauren/WifeUnit cameo. She looks good in that Camaro. 😊
75
I totally ignore people who start yelling at me from a distance. If they want to speak with me, walk up and act like you've got some sense.
75
I've been a tech for more than 20 years up in Massachusetts and that power steering line rust problem is like an easy everyday R&R for me, but you did an excellent job brother, thanks for sharing your frustrations with us!!
75
Great news Ray you’ll be your own boss well done very proud of you 👍
74
The skill set required to do all that Ray does is tremendous and his automotive mechanical accomplishment simply serve as the platform to realize his true talent. He frames up scene after scene like a pro film making director, he ad libs complete scripts in addition to being stage and lighting director. His stand-up comedy quality keeps his audience connected. This guy is a phenomenon!
74
@shaneshannon6874 Not sure why you felt the need to attack me, must've hit a nerve or something...
74
Watched Eric's video on the engine rebuild you and him working on for the family in need. This is so awesome what you're doing.
74
It's only temporary until it works 😅
74
Good news is if the apprentice still has a job he will never do that again.
74
People who have never worked on cars cannot comprehend the thrill and excitement of the personal achievement of getting those bolts out that easily. It's right up there with winning the Indy 500.
74
Ray, it was a struggle to watch at times, but with carbies it comes from experience but glad to see you work through it all, like the true professional that you are the butterfly screws are generally peened and are prone to snap best to file the back then replace
73
i am in a situation where cant do anything of my own i have had to sell almost everything i own but ur vids are the best part of my day keep it up dude
73
You dodged a bullet by not going to work for a company like that
73
It's great seeing you investing in your business and continuing to grow!
73
The one thumbs down is the pissed off Robinair tech that didn't get to make a service call.
73
Ray, you and Eric O., in complete honesty, are just the best on-line mechanics ever. You both have the perfect personalities for these video’s. I am not positive what that certain thing is, but you guys got it and I really appreciate your video’s. It is the first thing that I do every morning when I wake up. Thank you again.
73
Could you show us again how that coil bites? I’m not familiar with the process 🙂
73
It's really hard to make short technical videos without leaving out important technical data. Mine always end up roughly the same length.
73
Ray you may say boring for us to watch you install rtv but there are those of us that learn from watching different methods of putting on rtv so we can improve our methods of putting rtv on in diffetent surcumbstances. Thanks for the video and the educational aspect of it. You and Troy have a Great Day yourselves.
73
The new shop is a diamond in the rough, and you have what it takes to get it shaped up and ready to go. I'm so happy for you and can't wait to see you getting it ready. I only wish I could live closer and bring my retired butt over to help. Good luck, brother, a lot of us are pulling for you these days. I know you will make it. BTW, the shower may be needed after you spend two or three days in a row without a trip home.
73
Missed the set screw on the tuner knob.
72
I knew it was a great day when the O2 sensor came out with ease.
72
Watched Part 1, straight into Part 2 of this rebuild by Ray 😀.... then Eric O, Ivan, Wes, and finally Mustie 1 .. Great way to spend a Sunday evening!
72
Thanks for taking the time to make so many videos. Your info helps so many people. I don't have any of these cars or issues but still enjoy your content!
72
You have a rare opportunity to show future customers your inherent integrity with a simple YouTube link. I've been watching off and on for the last year or so, and I was honestly surprised you weren't running your own shop. I am so happy for you and am sure you've got this. I can't wait to watch your success unfold.
72
@RainmanRaysRepairs Gene has shims of a negative thickness. He's cool like that.
72
it's your sense of humor that makes this a great channel
72
I get the feeling you may have woken Derrick up and he's just too good a dude to say so.
72
He's shopping around to find out who will pay him for it, he probably fucked it up himself. Why else would he come to you when you when you last touched the truck over a year ago before taking it back to the dealership where they attempted a repair for an oil leak a couple of months ago?
71
I AM impressed. You start your own business repairing automobiles and classically, "you hit the ground running!" You have employees, an office manager, and 3 bays that seem to always be full. I'd assume your finance statement is profit = not red. And you don't appear to be stressed from it all. They say: "do what you love and never work a day in your life!" Small business is the backbone of America and you are a staunch contributor. AGAIN: I am impressed.
71
Dude, I wish you would have put into your channel 6 years ago what you do now. You would be in the millions of subscribers. You are an ardent, moral, witty guy. Excellent mechanic
71
In today's lesson we learn what your front brake rotors look like when you have a shaking steering wheel while pressing the brake pedal.
71
At least you got 3-4 days to re-charge/reset..to do it all over again. Do not forget the cup on the tool box test.
71
What this car needs is a complete restoration, much more than the Silverado turned int, which was much more than expected. Giving the owner the complete story is good, and then politely say that this is beyond what Ray is in the business to do, is treasonable. As talented as Ray is, he could probably fix everything this car needs, but it would be a long expensive job, and that isn't what Ray's talents are best used for.
71
I’m watching this on a screen and still find myself moving to the side when you were compressing it with lift. Pucker factor of 1000
71
If you ever sell that truck, the buyer is going to need a three day operators course.
71
"I am in fight or flight mode and I ain't going anywhere" - brilliant!
71
@BobDole-sq5uj I AM THE BOSS

When I stopped by to pick up my car a few weeks ago, I pulled in and Troy was working on cleaning the wheels up on my car. I said "Hi, Troy!" like it was nothing, but then it hit me about how weird that must be to have total ransdos just saying 'hi' like you're old friends. So I asked him if it was, in fact, that weird. He was super cool about it. Best of luck to you, Troy. You certainly seem like a cool dude.

I’m a newer viewer Ray but I couldn’t be more excited for you. I’ve been in automotive since I was 16 and I’m not 39. I have a lot of the same issues at my current shop of employment. I enjoy taking care of customers and actually fixing the cars which goes against our “just beat them over the head with a hammer and sell them everything” plan. I can’t express how much I hate working in this environment and starting a small shop would be a dream but I completely understand the undertaking , investment and hurdles you have. I wish you the best of luck man. I just applied to a new shop this morning 3.5 hours west of where my family lives now in Pennsylvania. I’m going for a complete change. Move the wife and kids out to rural Pennsylvania, get away from the city and madness and get a shop at one of the good family shop that still believes in fair business and customer service.

Ray, did you know on your Fluke DVM that if you are checking resistance and you want to get a true zero ohms when shorting the leads together push the Delta (triangle) button. It will zero the display and remember to subtract the resistance of the leads. But only for that session.
70
You’re not having a bad day, you’re having a blessed day. Your home and family are intact. Stay positive you’ll get through this.

I’m a recovering Hyundai tech. There’s a 1 pin connector near the air box on almost every hyundai which is the starter solenoid wire. This is always my go to test point to check starter signal. Those solenoid connectors always break!
70
Ray is the Bob Ross of mechanics. Could name the channel "The Joy of Wrenching" 😂
70
It's crazy that you changed the lower control arm on a Camry faster than you changed the spark plugs on a Mercedes.
70
It is a beautiful thing when this country comes together to help when needed. A big thank you to all the lineman out there you make modern society possible.
