  6. Ryan, as a retired 12B4X8, I would like to tell you that was a great video! The only things I think you missed was surface laid row MFs (which was our most often used method) and breaching with hand emplaced explosives (also something we did on every FTX). Great job!

  7. Ha! Ha! A specialist is like a senior private. Yep. As you lightened your gear, when I first arrived in my unit in I Corp Vietnam, I weighed 155 also, and was assigned an M60 and accompanying ammo belts, and all the other gear. And like you, I found a way to slightly lighten the burden. Took the camo cloth off the steel pot, took the steel pot off the fiberglass inner liner, put the camo cloth over the liner, tucked the bottom edge under, next to itself, and carried on.

  10. I know that modern commercial aircraft have 3 or 5 computers "voting" for the right solutions.. so if one goes rogue, the others can handle the flight until landing. Of course, those are like big and slow elephants, compared to fighter jets. They still watch every system a few times every week. They carry a tad more passengers than fighting planes tho. As you say, the jets can do some mind bending maneuvres, so if you don't want stupid stuff to happen, you better make sure and double sure that not one screw is loose. Maintenance matters a whole lot... And you do need someone who know where every screw is supposed to be.

  12. Aaand while I may be a former engineer "HT" in the Navy I've loved aviation my whole life. My original rate was supposed to be AD which is a powerplant mechanic. And certain particulars of my job made me stick out somewhat and being friendly made several friends in the squadrons so got to spend my offtime on the flight deck. And really wanting to see how it was done kept getting told you don't seem like an idiot so here's these tools and we'll coach you on what to do, get that full first hand experience. Don't mind us taking a break behind ya we'll make sure you don't mess up lol. It led to the CO of our Tomcat squadron VF-154 personally coming down to my shop to find me as he felt I could pull off this crazy idea of doing a braze job on a Tomcat. I succeeded. On my last ship I recived an award from the Co of USS Boxer a ship I had never served on. One of thier CH-46's had a problem and I assisted them the entire time aboard including removing and replacing an engine. So as an engineer while I'll give wingnuts shit it's not too much because I definitely have a soft spot for that line of work in all branches.

  16. Tanks aren't obsolete, they will just be used differently & evolve based on the needs of the soldiers. Personally I'm of the belief that material science will have a breakthrough for armor and create something that nullifies/weakens current AT tech. Like the man said, Spear and Shield.

  17. As a former Marine, I’ve never heard us called “Army Junior”. That’s borderline laughable. When we screwed up in boot camp, we were called every name in the book by our Drill Instructors, but the worst insult was being told “You should have joined the Army!!!” Lol did that always sting. 🤣🤣🤣 But yeah, Saddam always said that the only military he feared were the Marines and the French Foreign Legion.

  22. Slip Away!, I have heard that quite often. The adrenaline rush and the noisy chaos moving toward the jump door, feeling the gentile tug as the chute deploys, then the silence and serenity of floating towards the drop zone. The "Hollywood" jumps off of the ramp of a Chinook at 7,000 ft. were an awesome way to spend a Saturday morning. This was a really great video, you really captured the realism of what it is like to jump. The equipment has been upgraded since my time, though I learned quite a bit of what goes on behind the scenes.

  37. 3-187 INF Rakkasan is my alma mater and regimental affiliation. RAKKASAN! Just a fantastic, storied regiment in arguably the best Infantry division in US history, the 101st Air Assault. I've never felt particular pride of being a veteran of the US Army. It was a job that needed to be done. I was there to do it. But I'm fiercely proud of the regiments I've served in. The Rakkasans stand tallest of those regiments. Giants.
