It’s not that we all need to become preppers, but it’s worth considering wherever you are to have a quick blink and think “what would I do if...”. I for one do this on planes as well as other public places. Don’t dwell on it, just have a quick think.   11. I got one for you, so we were doing JRTC, we are ADA and we have to provide our own security which is impossible since we had minimum operating crew. We get to site and I start digging defensive positions. My nco tells me it’s pointless and we were going to get our asses kicked. I didn’t like that. Later on I see cars passing by site with military aged males so I tell my NCO if we should snatch a few up, he said we didn’t have enough men, I see that an armored unit is nearby, I insist and say what if I can get the armored guys to help, he (thinking they would tell me to fuck off) told me that if I could get more men, he would call in the request. I ran down the hill, was directed to their 1SG and he gave me a fucking M2 Bradley. I ran back with M2 in tow. My nco angrily called the request in and we got the approval. Eventually someone came and told my NCO we were disrupting the exercise and we had to break up the checkpoint. Endex happened and our Battalion Commander & CSM flew out to see us. With me standing next to my NCO they said “heard ya did such a great job you almost ended the war early when you set up that checkpoint “ my NCO said “yes sir, I just thought the Joes could get some good training experience from the opportunity”. I was livid. So fast forward to the wash pit (there’s a specific name and I can’t remember it) my nco wanted to drive through them while these giant water guns blast the vehicles. He had me ground guid and didn’t let me jump in. So I saw the water guns were operated by Spc. I go to one of those and say, “see that HMMWV? Its windows (canvas zipper windows) are real dirty” he looks at me and says “e-4 mafia baby”, he blasted nothing but the window and the dry rot gave up zipper fell inward he got soaked! 😂 he got out after the wash to yell at the E-4 and I got ratted out, and then I got smoked 😂 worth it.

I'm in a German Disaster Relief organisation and our callouts usually work like this: Organisation Descriptor(Some sort of alternative Name which is usually shorter) And for it then continues with the name of the location we're based in. Then a 2 Digit Number for the Unit Type And then a 2 Digit Number for a designation within that unit. This leads to a Radio call sign something like this: YYYYYYY YYYYYYYY XX XX Y is a letter, X a Number. And the second set of numbers can either be a vehicle descriptor( If you know the vehicle codes you know what the person who calls you is capable of) Or it can be a person. Like the group leader or his/her "squad" leader. Then we differ in the Words to designate the end of our transmissions. We have "Kommen" ~ Come as the designation for a request to get a answer. And "Ende" ~ End as a signal that we are finished.

These were people who could not discern a BTR from a t-72 but your videos help give amazing context to those who don't understand armored warfare. (Myself have alienated many people on the subject at parties, don't judge.) Keep up the work!

  18. As a First Calvary Red Leg of 52 years ago. I remember slinging guns below Chinooks . I even saw to two Chinooks sling load a single gun working together. I doubt that’s done any more. As you mentioned Ryan any time the turbine is running your consuming fuel. This is critical in the planning stage. A very well done report.

  26. Thanks Ryan for explaining the functions of an Infantry Fighting vehicle. This is an awesome teaching video. I was a Red Leg in the First Calvary Division during Vietnam. We had Gama-Goats. They were supposed to float and cross water. We thought it was a sure way to drowned. I also remember the Dragon Anti tank missile .

  28. One time I was tasked with finding batteries. Enough to power the entire arms room worth of nods. The only thing I asked was “does it matter where I get them?” They said no. I knew where there was a ton sitting. A unit recently deployed and left all their batteries in their office. The locks they used were cheap master locks, so anyway, liberty and freedom happened. About a year later, there was an investigation but no one knew anything. Side note: I read some of these other stories and those are really impressive. I wish I talked to more people to find that guy.

  33. This brought back so many memories from my service in the Chilean army. I was a "paratrooper" (umbrella term here for air assault troops) and we were mostly attached to special forces units, we were the chaperones, making sure the sneaky boys could do their thing w/o worrying about holding a perimeter because that was our job and hile shit, there was a rumor going around back then that some of our pilots were trained by the Nightstalkers (which wouldn't surprise me, our army tends to train alongside US troops). If you see in Black Hawk Down killer eggs flying 3ft off the ground, I called it cinematic liberty on the movie... til I flew 3ft off the ground. Those were the best years I had in the army and your brief about the mission took me back to being in a tent with all my kit, ready to dust-off whenever the order came. Good times.

And exactly one Vietnamese person for safety wiring. I'd also be lying if I said I didn't have the most charming, cohesive, and efficient work center in my squadron, possibly air station.
