  3. My grandmother was Japanese and chose to marry an American man stationed in Japan during the height of US/Japanese conflict. She was disowned by her family and moved to the US, never speaking with them again. I often wonder with the time passed and new generations since, how I would be perceived by those who’re blood relatives and technically family but I’ve never talked to— especially the older generations. Great to see the elderly of Japan exude such kindness and lightheartedness towards foreigners! As always, the content is appreciated Anming.

  5. The images from the countryside were indeed very interesting, those places seem to be so relaxing! It reminded me of the time when I used to visit my grandpa in the interior, I would sit on the sidewalk on sunny days and simply watch the streets.

This was so wholesome and cute, especially when people open up more and are willing to talk because you're clearly interested and they probably haven't spoken to real life Americans or Europeans before. I hope to do this one day but there are barely any Japanese or Korean people in the UK I can practice with.

  13. I'm White, I speak Chinese with a decent accent. On two occasions, I've had conversations with folks where they didn't realize we were speaking in Chinese, because they were preoccupied by something else. In one case, an old woman on the subway looked confused. I correctly guessed that she was Chinese, and asked her where she was trying to go. She told me, and I told her what stop she wanted. This conversation was entirely in Chinese, and she never seemed to register she was talking to a White guy in Chinese, because she was really concerned about what stop to get off. In another instance, two women were trying to figure out a pay barrier. I knew they spoke Chinese as I could hear them talking it. I explained to them how the barrier worked, and they thanked me -- again, never registering that I was speaking in Chinese. However their husbands, who were nearby, were cracking up.

I love seeing stuff like this, when two people from entirely different cultures and parts of the world and even more two countries who used to be at war (one of the worst i know of) and can still find ways despite all of our complexity as humans, boil it all down to something simple. I have never met his family due to covid. 10 days ago his mother and grandmother came to visit us and I met them for the first time. Today we told them goodbye as they were going back to Tokyo! I hope to visit them in Japan soon!

  21. If I had the chance to go to Japan I think the last place I'd visit is somewhere like Tokyo, but I'm not a big fan of cities in general. I'd be happier in smaller communities like I am here in the UK, the dog attack was so cute.

We went to Japan 2019 and while we took photos from the Temple in Nara some kids popped up out of nowhere and asked my husband to take photos with them because he looks so cool (he is Vietnamese/Chinese but was born and raised in Germany) 🤣 that was so cute. He also got a little present from them 🤗 wonderful memories

  25. Part of why you haven't heard negative things is that you're attractive. I have a sister who is fluent in French and German as well as English and ASL. She'd sometimes catch French women commenting in insulting terms about her weight. She lived in Washington D.C. and she once approached a couple of them. She simply said that they shouldn't assume others don't speak French in a cosmopolitan city like D.C.

Actually, most people watch till the end, but your audience retention is like 40% or lower because some people click away after 1 second (misclick or spooked by Japanese language on an English title). Your 85% viewers that are not subscribed is a great sign! It means YouTube is recommending your videos to people other than your subscribers and they are interested and click the thumbnail :) Just remind people to like the video and ask a question, so people can write a comment under the video. Comments and likes are the most important tools that the YouTube bot uses to decide if your video rocks or sucks. I'm going to move to France soon (not really, in 1 year) and I need to learn the language. I will apply your techniques to learn the basics.

  49. I found that younger people, spoke English more often to me when I was in Tokyo. But some were a little nervous to speak it, thinking it was not very good but I was so proud of them for trying. Then I was amazed when older people would spark up conversations with me in grocery stores, speaking excellent English. I used to visit Japan for work every summer. I miss it.

The Japanese are very accepting of those who "marry outside" and your sweet personality and beautiful blonde hair will be loved by all of your new family.
