Looking to Travel out there in August! Maybe I’ll be just past the rainy days or get a mixture during my two week stay but I wouldn’t mind it (:

I see quite a lot of these sort of videos that are focused on educating foreigners about etiquette in Japan. Can I also add one that Japanese people might want to think about. "Japanese people, please do not stare at black people; it makes us extremely uncomfortable."
3
Thank you for the video. When I go to Japan again, it will be for the purpose of visiting the countryside. I will try to avoid the over tourism that occurs in Tokyo/Kyoto/Nara/etc. Also, I will go in autumn or winter. Summer can be a little too hot. 🔥

I'm planning to go this early June. Around June 3rd - June 16th. What do you think the weather would be?

So I live in uk. And am planning for a trip to japan for a month. This may be my first and last trip to japan idk. But it will be after my college exam next year. So my exams unfortunately will finish in like mid May. And mid May to September, I have holidays until my uni. So I can travel between these months. Would you mind telling me, if you know, which month will be a good month between mid May to August. I want to enjoy as much as I can.

I definitely want to visit japan and try natto!

IMO you should leave your restaurant table dirty so that the staff can clearly see where it needs to be cleaned and sanitized. Nobody wants to sit down and inadvertently touch your invisible germs.

Japan in October is amazing. I've been to Japan multiple times (Kyushu and Honshu) and October was the best weather for me.

Your English is very good Nao. I live in a rural part of the US state of Michigan. We get very heavy snowfall where I live and temperatures can often get to -25C. We are surrounded by the largest freshwater lakes on Earth and get snowstorms probably not unlike those that come off of the Sea of Japan. We heat our home off a propane furnace that is fed by a large tank outside that holds around 2000liters of liquid propane at a time. We also have a wood burning stove and make use of electric heated blankets when we go to bed. A kotatsu looks like it would be very comfy to sit around drinking hot chocolate and watching a movie on a snowy day.

Interesting content, thank you !

Thank you very much for your detailed and informative explanation on Japan's holidays! ありがとうございます!

Thank you for a very interesting video 😊

In live in Los Angeles, California. I have recently started paying mainly in cash instead of using my cards. It does prevent me from mindlessly spending money. I also started using a Kakeibo method to keeping track of my weekly and monthly spending.

Thank you! We are so excited to visit Japan for our third time and see our daughter and son -in - law. We really appreciate your tips and wisdom. 😍😍
3
Thank you for the video !!😊 Arigato !

Thank you for your comments! Is there anyone who doesn't use cash anymore?

Some of these are supposed to be common courtesy in north america. But theres people eho are extremely rude and will leave a mess wherever they go

@Cubs3344 Your hotel should be able to change larger notes for you but not necessarily a huge amount all at once since they are not a bank.
3
I am curious - how did you learn to speak English so well? 🙂

Very informative video! The only one that I'd feel uncomfortable with as a foreigner is the not eating/drinking while walking. As a tourist, sometimes you have a very busy schedule to fit things in. While I'd be happy not doing it, I would have thought Japanese businesses would prefer us to purchase something and eat/drink as we go, rather than not getting anything at all. Do you think it would be reasonable to eat drink only outside in less busy places (parks and things)? As said, more than happy to follow advice here, it would probably just mean we spend a bit less on things.

im going to tokyo 2nd week of april 😅 i am so excited
3
Okay but which district is semi-urban? E.g. Ueno is the same price as Shinjuku?
3
This is the first video of yours I have ever watched. I really enjoyed it and will be back. 🙂

Pro tip, use coins at vending machines. Buying Strong Zero using all 10 yen coins from a vending machine is great!
3
Thank you!!! Im going in march doing solo traveling and will be relaying on the train a lot😅. This was very helpful

For #2: just use forward luggage service… case closed. No need to take care of your luggage, no need for taxis in a city with a great infrastructure… just no. If you know what you are doing and you have 2 healthy legs, you don’t want to waste time and money on taxis

COIN PURSE: You will have many coins, a tiny coin purse (Amazon) can help keep you from jingling (^.^). TOILETS: Please carry a small washcloth or towel. Many toilets lack towels or air dryers. I see foreigners exit the toilet with wet hands looking for help. (^.^) EARTHQUAKES: I carry a tiny flashlight. Also, your phone can have a flashlight. Please know how to use it if power is lost. It can calm those around you. (^.-) SMOKING: You can't smoke while walking. Signs on the ground tell you but please respect this. SITTING: Don't just sit anywhere (e.g., on steps) because you are tired. It is very rude. Particularly rude at a Temple or Shrine. Please find a bench instead. COVER TATTOOS: Nao is right. I've seen people refused entry because they have short sleeves and tattoos. They were upset but I explained the reason. You can buy flesh colored patches (or long sleeves). The "rules" are not difficult but knowing them will increase your access (and fun!).

Suica is already available in Narita airport which surprised me. I tried to buy a New Suica Card from a machine but was surprised that it was closed. I went to the counter, and they sold me one after showing my passport.

I'm worried about the death of omotenashi.

good to know, thanks

I’m coming to Japan in November 19th to 22 in Tokyo. Then I’ll head 5 days November 22-26 Tohoku. You think I’ll be ok?

@Curious-traveler Morioka shouldn't be over run with Instagrammers etc. Have a good trip! Don't hold me to it but it seemed that sitting on the right side of the shinkansen was the station side for both Sendai and Morioka and seemed to give a view of much of the city as we approached. I am always looking for interesting views.
3
Idk if I’m sold on ketchup in a pasta sauce, but it doesn’t look bad actually

i dont think going to fast food restaurant should be a last resort. there's still local supermarkets. eat like salaryman, buying a discounted bento box and side in the evening.

My favorite time is January & February, partly because there are fewer tourists. January is one of the sunniest months in Tokyo (whereas, January is the cloudiest month in my home town, Cleveland OH). It is also the Hatsu Ozumo Basho in January. Since 2015, a different rikishi has won the January Tournament every year! Also it is the season for shirako (milt). I love shirako ponzu. Setsubun, on February 3 is a lively festival held at many shrines around Tokyo (and elsewhere, no doubt). The Tengu Matsuri in Shimokitazawa is held around the same time.

Great info. But please write the subtitles. You are hard to understand for me, and the autogenerated subtitles are bad.

We are planning to go to Japan in August. Thank you for this video!

Just found your channel and this was SUPER interesting & informative! Thank you so much for sharing!✨♥️✨

Now I understand why big wallets are really popular in Japan because Japanese use cash primarily. I mean look at your wallet 😂😂 that's massive lol. In my country it is very rare to see guys with big wallet 😂

Nice job Nao san. Greetings from Indonesia

me and a group are planning to go from late December till early June, is that going to be really bad?:face-blue-wide-eyes:
3
I will come to Japan from may 28 til June 10. will it be already rainy season then?
3
all due respect but how is getting groped on a train a scam
3
That full meals !
3
Ha. I booked my trip last week and it looks like it's right in the middle of Golden Week. I noticed the hotels were a little more expensive but i saved about 40 percent on airfare so I went with it. And strangely enough hotel prices were even higher the second week of May.
3
I don't have to eat natto to feel like something died in my mouth, I just have to see it. But a Japanese-American friend just loves it, so it must be an acquired taste.
3
Can you make video about how change us dollars to yen in Narita airport?
3
Hi, Nao! I'm planning to visit Japan soon, but my main concern is that I cannot eat raw seafood or undercooked meat (I get stomachaches). How much will that limit my food choices if I want to try as much authentic food as possible?
3
Excellent advice 👍 I always went out for the day after 09:00, had dinner at 17:00 and caught the train back to the Hostel after 20:00 👍 Tokyo is all about WALKING & stairs. You'll lose weight in Japan !
3
Hi Nao. What about nose piercing?
