  4. it’s interesting because culturally speaking, the Picts did vastly differ from Britons, P Gaelic and Q Gaelic (Irish and Scots), certainly in artwork, but many sources seem to indicate that despite these differences in language and culture (a massive one being the decent of kings in Pictish culture being matriarchal, and not through only one line), they (for the most part) got a long well with the Scots, and the best researched and reasoned explanation for the end of the celts would have been the culture death, when Scottish nobles (and regular Scots) merged when they moved to the Pictish heartlands, to escape the increasing Viking raids in the west. At this point, I believe, the scots carried Christianity over too. I can’t source this well so read this as any other you tube comment, simply as I cannot recall endless sources articles and documents I’ve accumulated my knowledge with, however a very very good read on this subject (with a good bibliography) is a book simply called ‘Picts’ (or the Picts?). Cheers for the video, although my biggest question is where your accents from, I’m fully Scottish but for some reason I cant figure it out. It is quite soft, suggesting a northern accent, Aberdeenshire region, but something tells me it is more lowlands…. Any clues?

  5. I’m a full British Isles medley, and my eyes are solid grey that can vary to green or blue depending on lighting/clothing. The whole sensitivity to light thing explains a lot

  7. I’m Welsh but I lived in gorgie for a while, I found out that it’s name comes from old Brittonic. The name is thought to be Brythonic in origin. Early forms suggest it derives from gor gyn – upper wedge – which may refer to the tapering shape of the land between the Water of Leith and the Craiglockhart hills.

  12. I don't agree with your theory. If that was the case Eskimos, people form Siberia, native people of Canada, Australia and New Zealand would all develop blue eyes because of shorter days. Also in Northern Europe there is a lot of snow which reflect a lot of light so it isn't lack of light. My theory is caves that people lived in during ice age in Europe.

  13. I am Dutch and I did a DNA test with also haplogroups. My paternal haplogroup is actually more common in Southern Italy, North-Africa and West-Asia, even though we live in the Netherlands for at least 400 years or something (as far I can find the family tree and I have found no Spanish or Italian ancestors so I don't know where my sisters Italian DNA comes from). I do have a German in 1830 in the family and Flanders. I am Southern Dutch (Brabant). My sister did have 2.9% Italian in her DNA, but I didn't have that and neither my dad or the grandmother on my moms side. I am now 100% Dutch but before that I was 81,8% North-Western European, 16,8% English and 1,4% Irish, Scottish and Welsh. I have paternal haplogroep G (Which male mummie Yuya in Egypt also had) mine specifically is unique as it only occurs 1 in 13000 at 23andme and its: G-Z37368. The Maternal haplogroup is: J2a1a which is supposedly a more common one in Western Europe including Denmark. The G haplogroup has no R in its journey.

  14. Id say the romans did reach ireland. But they met the Fianna at "The Battle of Ventry". Its a great story look it up, and the timelines line up perfectly. It was very unusual for a country at that time to have a standing army but ireland did as they were in a period of unification and so were just about able to repel them.

  15. blonde and red hair are more common in northern Europe because in hotter climates with more UV radiation black hair protects the scalp from getting skin cancer, hence why Mediterranean's have black hair, but in cloudy places like the British isles or northern Russia red hair is more common

  18. Gray eyes (and red hair), and my eyes are what might be considered slate-colored. Very photo sensitive, and see very well in low lighting, especially at night, driving (until some idiot approaches with high beam headlights on!).

If to be red haired is a Celtic characteristic, some Asturians are of Celtic origins. Half of my close friends when I was a child were and still are red haired, I knew red haired people at school, at work, at sport...

  35. Great Video mate. My surname is classed as old Germanic/English and is very pre-dominant in the East Anglia region. Earliest spelling being Vulnoth or Wulfnoth meaning Wolf Daring or Wolf Brave. But also proud that I was raised in the old kingdom of the Iceni who led a major uprising under Boudicca that came very close to kicking the Romans out of Britain.

  37. Found your channel today and subscribed! My great granny on my maternal grandfather's side was a Campbell and my maternal grandmother's side is Clan Duncan. I've been researching my family tree for over a decade and I have an uncommon MtDNA haplogroup. The things I've found about my ancestry continue to blow my mind!

  38. My wife’s family’s name was named Little, which is one of the Scottish border plans that was Centered around mykkledale I don’t think they have a clan chief anymore. That seems to make a big difference in the modern year now when people track their clans, but there seems to be an organization fairly vigorous in the US and Canada brings all the Littles together. I guess it’s kind of big 😂
