  2. In the late 1600s, a father and son from Clan Ross came to Sweden, the son stayed, worked and married in what is now Finland. He has a lot of descendants in the area I live in, but unfotunately it's so far back that it doesn't show up in our DNA anymore. But the connection can be verified through ancestry research. So, I guess I'm allowed to say that I'm a descendent from Clan Ross. 😃

  7. I'm from Ulster, born into a Presbyterian family and also, briefly, lived for 10 years in Edinburgh. Other than speaking 'the hamely tongue' ie Ulster-Scots language, I probably couldn't have been more Ulster Scots if I tried. Even so, half of this history lesson on Ulster Scots is news to me. Much appreciation for Celtic History Decoded. Great content!

  9. I'm Portuguese and in school teachers talk about the migration to Iberia from Celts from central Europe to mix with Iberians to form the Celtiberians (Celtiberos). Today there is a very distinctive culture difference between Galiza (PT) or Galicia (SP) and the north of Portugal with the south of Portugal and other regions of Iberia, this is translated in Football clubs culture, the way people speak using different words to describe things and being more open in every aspect of the daily life experiences.

I may have mentioned this in one of your other eye color videos, but I do have the dual color form of hazel eyes, with a brown ring in the middle and a dark jade green on the outside, though it is not very obvious except under bright lighting conditions. I imagine most people who note such things probably think they are are brown on casual inspection.

  14. Family surnames were/are Clark, Blair, and Titus. Was told that we’re from the Graham of Montieth Clan but have no way of confirming…for good luck, it didn’t stop me from sewing a swatch of the tartan to the hem lining of my wedding gown, though! Spent my honeymoon in Edinburgh and made a point of visiting Blair Castle (absolutely breathtaking) one day. It felt like I had gone back home…can’t wait to make my way back again!

  27. Thank you for this, I was on a search looking for "banshees" in Irish folklore - hit the jackpot here! This is such a great film. So many layers, and brilliantly done all the way through from the writing and acting to the direction and cinematography. Enjoying reading these comments as well, I love when movies stir up conversation and ideas like this. One thing I haven't seen mentioned as much is the idea of broken dreams and lost or missing love. It's another kind of self-destruction we see with Colm, but also we see how Siobhan and Padraic handle this same thing. They have lost so much already, and then we are dropped right into possibly Padraic's biggest dream being broken in real time- the last of his meaningful loving relationships leaving him. Just that one single thread of dreams being broken and how each of these characters respond accordingly throughout the film is enough to love it so much. And that's just one thread- look how many there are! Genius

  31. there were celts in spain and they did speak celtic languages however the dna of the UK comes from the basque country in spain in the pyrenees and that dna has been unchanged mostly due to the RH negative factor that most of them have , which made it hard to have live births with those who where Rh pos. For those who say that either population dont look similar in appearance obviously hasnt seen what they look like on average. While some parts of spain have some mediterrian features most of all of spain is celtic blood followed by Roman blood. Most contributions by the the mediterrians, sephardic jews and berbers will be in the south of spain and in small numbers ( single digits). People in the UK would link closest to the Basque in spain.

  34. I have gray eyes with a tad of blue. They came out of my grandmother who was from Messenia, very close to the Nestor 's palace. As is mentioned about Goddess Athena, gray eyes are around with Hellenic peoples for millennia. I believe that it is a trait that was developed through night hunting in wooden and mountainous areas.

  40. Turks may also be closely related with Yamnaya people. Some still call their burial sites Kurgan. They also consider wolves to be sacred. They have two myths of their origin, one with a she wolf and the other with a he wolf. They are also well known for riding horses for raiding and for migrating to cooler mountains in the summers and warmer plains in the winters.

  42. Evidence does seem to suggest that light colored eyes originated with western hunter gatherers and blue eyes only became associated with light skinned northern Europeans with Steppe ancestry after intermingling with the remnants of Western hunter gatherer populations.

  44. Yeah, its supposed to be Constantine II. Books go much more into detail about Scots, about kingdom of Alba and Strathclyde. Final book of the series is about Battle of Brunanburh and it was pretty good. Season 5 only thing I truly liked were the scots, lol.

  45. I’m from Iceland so my ancestry is about 50/50 from Norway on the one hand and the British Islands and Ireland on the other. With my mtDNA most likely from Ireland (T2a1a8) and Y-DNA most likely from Scotland (R-Z39898). Interestingly I seem to have a dash of Savonian (Forest Finn) ancestry in there as well, though I suspect that it is slightly more recent and possibly via a back migration from New Sweden (Delaware) as it forms a DNA cousin cluster with a lot of people of NA and Colonial American descent. Plus some from the rest of Scandinavia, Northern Europe and Basque.

  46. I'm Portuguese, as well as both my parents, all of my grandparents, great-grandparents and great-great-grandparents. I have no further information before them, but as all my relatives were from the middle of nowhere in the northern interior of Portugal, I always assumed to be extremelly Portuguese. I did an ancestery test a few years ago and got 58% Iberian, 30% Northwestern Europe (Germany/France) and 12% Italian. The Iberian and Italian parts were not surprising but the high northwestern european was a great surprise - I immediatly though about it being celtic origin, but I can't really tell...

  47. I never realized just how many Scottish surnames are hiding in plain sight here in the United States. In my hometown of Tucson, I think it might be possible to plan many a route whereby you remain solely on streets with Scottish names. That reminds me. I have to zip down Campbell later to pick up some Maxwell coffee at the store.

  48. I'm Polish and I have green eyes and dark blond hair. My grandmother had green eyes and one male cousin on the other side of the family - the rest of my family has blue eyes. My husband (who is Belarusian) also has green eyes and dark hair - but our elder son has hazel and the younger has grey eyes with some brown around the iris. I do love the fairies, haha :D
