  7. These are some very good points! Especially the ones about them not being lawnmowers and picky eaters. I got my goats primarily to clear land and for fertilizer and found out they wouldn't eat most of what I wanted them to clear. I will wholeheartedly recommend goats to anyone who has the vegetation for them but would also advice others to hold off till they can build up a system they can forage off of. We're steadily building up our trees and tall grasses for them but in the meantime had to reduce our goat population while that's going on.

  8. A work or tool belt with suspensers to carry the reel of wire. Or maybe a two-wheel dolly fitted out with a way to hold the reel and fence posts at the same time.

  9. I have always wanted a dairy cow, but recently came to the realization that i could not possibly handle all the milk that they produce on the daily, so for a while I was considering goats. I never really wanted goats because I know how difficult to be and I know my husband would NOT be on board so it would be entirely on me to take care of them, but figured if I wanted dairy then it was my only reasonable option for a small family. Then I was told that you can milk sheep! I had no idea! Sheep are such sweet animals, and they can be used for meat, milk, and fiber, which makes them a fantastic multi purpose animal on the homestead. And I’ve heard that they have even higher butterfat than goats, which is cool. The only downside is that they don’t produce as much milk as a goat does, but that’s not really a problem for us since we really only drink milk with our coffee and use it to cook. Getting a gallon of milk a day, compared to seven gallons from a cow, is way more manageable in my opinion.

  13. Fully agree on the market saturation since 2020. We now REALLY struggle to sell our very high quality, registered Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats, because the market is so saturated with cheap backyard goats. But we have far more demand for our goat milk than we can possibly supply!

  14. OMG! I had the same explosive experience with my Kombucha! Luckily no one was in the room when the chain reaction (2 growlers and 2 secondary primary ferments) went off. I was pulling shards of glass from all over the room for years. Not to mention the watermelon I had added off the ceiling and walls of our forty foot family room. It looked like a grizzly murder scene. I can't believe I've found a gardener almost as lazy as me. Every year the family wonders at the marvel that we call the jungle. You rock!

  18. I was surprised by what you said about costumes helping us work. It's very true! This is one of those things we always sort of knew that has recently been proven. It helps your mindset and it helps you access associated memories better! You can also use flavors or smells. Leave your chicken books by the chickens for a while, get the smell in the pages, and when you go to your chickens the smell will bring the information you've read closer to the surface. I learned about that from my psyc 101 teacher, but this stuff comes up a lot in what I'd call 2nd tier magic stuff

  29. Thank you for such an entertaining tour of your garden, absolutely gorgeous. I'm working toward doing the same. We in spring now, here in South Africa, my 2nd season on this property, and last years grafted fruit trees are all blooming and planted out. We ate from our garden all year even through winter, and helped four families with food throughout the year. This year is going to be epic as I've concentrated on soil health and making compost. Your insight has helped so much, thank you again for sharing your knowledge❤

  30. 14:28 so true! People are always asking "what is the easiest thing to grow" but you shpulf really focus on learning h0e to grow things you ENJOY eating... because no matter how many things you successfully grow- it's not going to be satisfying if it's a good you dislike!

  49. For easier rotational grazing, every year, budget in a few more extra posts. Eventually, just leave the posts in place and re-route the wire from one set to another. Can also plant a few wooden posts with insulators attached each year. It's just a matter of remembering that just because the post is permanently set, doesn't mean the fencing is. With a proper grid of posts, you can route your fence between them in any pattern you like.

  50. Absolutely BRILLIANT! Happy to see the "old" Anne is back in force, what a great video. Your garden sure doesn't look like it's been not watered much and definitely looks very healthy. Great tips with the tools and equipment, if you can't easily find stuff to do what you want, you ultimately get frustrated and move on. Wish there was some technique to teach the patience required to start and build such a garden for us now getting started. Have to take that tip and get something ontop of the soil in my small garden I'm now starting with our daytime 31C+ days we're getting.
