Santa bomb, Santa bomb… go McChord! Go Saber Dogs! p.s. you could have chosen Paine field up by Everett. The Air National Guard and sometimes the USAF based fighters there.

He's only human! No-one can match Drach's output! Thanks for the great videos, Pound.

Your content is the best military aviation content on this period I have ever seen. I need to buy you a beer

12:47 Holy shit.. My heart actually dropped. That's some amazing story telling.

I enjoy your videos, nice pacing on your narration. I hope you enjoy success sir, well done.

This is another excellent video. It is well presented with non-generic imagery, which is all-too-common in other videos. Your channel has very quickly become a personal favorite. As an aside, your narration reminds me of the late, great Luke Swann.

Excellent video . Would be interesting how the „Dog“ performed in dogfight against the normal F86. We at the Luftwaffe had 88 F86K and a lot CL-13B . All the „normal“ Sabre guys wished was a afterburner . The K had one .

Fascinating, thank you.

They probably said "whoopsie daisy"

You make a really good point. Many aircraft that people deem to be a "failure" or a "waste of money" serve the valuable purpose of developing technology that makes a future fighter invaluable. Just like people wonder why we have to keep making new aircraft. It is obvious that if we don't, we will forget how. And I always ask these people, would you want to go into combat in a car that is 15-20 years old? Most people that don't face the problems of other people just never think about it. This also shows how many problems the military has with every fighter they ever made. None ever live up to the hype. There are always problems to be solved. And they usually get solved when the manufacturers are allowed to keep working on it. The difference today is that if a system is not perfect from the beginning, the press and public is simply breathless about how catastrophic it is, and are so ready to pull the plug. Thank goodness our military leaders are more practical and adult about it.

Cool video. Love those Cold War fighters. Good story of the F-86Ds. Well done. I'm retired USAF.

The F-104 could not have been successful in Vietnam because it was not an air-superiority fighter. Operational tests conducted there proved this. Because of its small wing area, and the consequent high wing loading, it had low manoeuvrability. It also had a small radius of operation. Therefore these characteristics made it a tactical interceptor. The USAF had no use for such a fighter, that it why it had relatively few Starfighters. That was not the case for European countries. But the Germans decided to use it as a fighter-bomber, carrying a relatively heavy bomb load. This was disastrous for an airplane with such a high wing loading, as the accident statistics revealed. This did hot happen with other users. If the Starfighter had a larger wing area it would probably have been the fantastic air-superiority fighter everybody was expecting. Kelly Johnson recognised that when Lockheed made this modification for the new Lightweight Fighter competition. But it was too late.

"Point MooGoo." Pt. Mugo, pronounced Magu.

8:00 Was this originally a black and white photograph that was later colourised? Unless it’s French, the colours of the roundel are the wrong way around! However the fin flash is painted correctly for an RAF aircraft. Edit: Having read the Wikipedia article for the Meteor, it’s possible that the Meteor in the photograph is French. Escadre de Chasse (EC) 30 used NF mk.11s between 1953 and 1957. Some of their surviving Meteors were there then used for test beds in Concorde development and research.

"The deuce is loose" sounds like the morning after taco Tuesday. 😂

Great documentary. New subscriber here. Glad I found your channel. I worked on F4 test equipment for 8 years in the USAF.

Perhaps your BEST YET!!! ...and agreed. They were both right, but I'm glad the gun won the day. Will NGAD and FA/XX have a gun? Hmmm....

That monstrous boarding ladder on the Javelin made me giggle. It looked more purposeful, dangerous and over-engineered than the aircraft itself. I guess I'm easily amused in my old age. The development of the night/all-weather Meteor puts me on mind of the virtually identical and fraught American attempts to make the same thing from the off-the-shelf T-33/P-80 family. This, too, went on in the late-'40s, early '50s. The result was the F-94 Starfire, whose service was long (for the time) and thoroughly undistinguished. (I'm leaving this mostly redundant comment up as an example of the jackassery that can result when you comment before the video is over.)

Thank you! Good vid and professionally presented. Interesting to see that the CIA hasn't really improved over time.

This is every bit as good as the Emu War in Western Australia, after WWI , returned soldiers were given rural acreage to begin farming, drawn to the promise of easy pickings, "hordes of Emus began to eat the crops which annoyed the new farmers. A company of Infantry was sent to deal with the problem. After approx a month of frustration, the results were dismal, emus have a blistering turn of speed, coupled with an awkward swerving and tumbling gait which made accurate shooting difficult. To counter this Lewis guns were deployed however after 10,000 rounds were sent hurtling across W.A. the score was 9. The Army retired shamefaced. A W.A. politician suggested the minting of a medal, A NSW politician replied that if it was made it should be given to the emus

Loving this channel so far. Solid work.

The D wing was the wing and used on the Sabreliner ... the first "business jet". The gear was also used on the Sabreliner.

Awesome! Looking forward to the future episodes 👍

Well done! My dear friend, Lt. Colonel Dick Miller, flew Sabre Dogs out of Perrin AFB in Texas in the fifties. He told me as soon as his F-86D's tires broke the pavement he was fuel critical.
