For air con control: Most left: temp for passenger and rear area Most right: temp for driver area Top left two buttons: On/Off and fan speed (Auto / Low / High) for rear area Top center: mode selection for recirculation of outside air or inside only Top right two buttons: front and rear defogging lower row from left to right: Dual-Zone mode, AC mode, air flow dirction selection, fan speed selection, Full Auto control, and On/Off 20:32 dashboard: three little screens: Outside temp and time on the left, message for driver (door still open... etc) on the center and ODO on the right. 21:25 : open/ close curtain for rear window on the left and vehicle height selection (High when light on, normal when light off)

  9. Owned a Tacoma with the rotting frame issue that had 140k on it. Took it in and they installed a new frame and gave me a loaner free of charge. Drove it for a year and traded it in on a new Tundra and will never forget how well Toyota stood behind its product. Family owns 3 Toyotas and a Lexus now.

  10. I was in TCCN last week for an oil change. There was one customer who drove from New York city to have an LS that he just bought used for an inspection - he also had a selfie taken with AMD. There was another customer who drove from Sheboygan, WI to have his GX inspected! AMD - world wide celebrity and still very humble!

  11. A big part of the problem are automobile journalists. They drive all the vehicles and compare basic vehicles to 100k vehicles and crap all over the basic cars. They also want everything to drive like an M3 on the ring, so we end up with low profile tires and bumpy rides. To offset this we have expensive air/adaptive suspension that is a fortune to replace.

  12. We had an older Ford ranger with the typically Rock solid Lima 2.3 engine. One day my son was driving it in freezing rain, it slid on the ice and gently turned sideways into a ditch. The ground was so soft there was only minor damage to the fender. Fortunately, he shut the engine off right away. We took it to a shop that had a good reputation but that we had not used. A technician there told us unfortunately the engine had hydrolocked. However, he said he would offer us $350 for the truck. That triggered my suspicions. We took the truck to a body shop recommended to us and the mechanic there said the story was BS. He cleaned it up, put some marvel miracle oil in it and fired it up. It shot a little coolant out the exhaust and ran fine after that. We put another 60,000 mi on it and sold it you're a very happy young man. The moral is if a technician pronounces your vehicle dead but then makes a lowball offer for it get it somewhere else as fast as you can.

  21. As someone who owns both 2020 Hyundai Ioniq hybrid and 2022 Toyota Corolla hybrid, I can definitely say Toyota's system is still the best and simpler to operate. Driving on the same routes, my Corolla consistently gets 15-20% better MPGs compared to the Ioniq. I am, in fact, contemplating to trade my Ioniq with the soon-upcoming all-new Prius.

  22. I was a proud mechanic and did great work for over 35 yrs. Decided to stop working so hard before I wore out my body. Took a job for an extended warranty company. Talking to service advisors, customers, field inspectors. Looking up levels of coverage for all. It made me sick seeing how people thought they were covered “bumper to bumper”. Company manager approached me at 90 day probation period saying, congratulations! You’re doing great and past the probation period. I said thanks but you didn’t pass mine. And I walked off the job. Their jaws dropped. 😁

  26. A tip for those who have difficulty remembering when to do their oil changes. Reset trip odometer (A or B) to zero with every oil change. Leave it on that setting whenever possible as a reminder of your mileage since the last oil change. AMD...you rock bro!!

  29. As an owner of an IS500 I find your perspective really interesting. This is my first Lexus, having moved up from Mercedes (SL AMG). Biggest problem with Mercedes is quality and longevity - it's just not there. For me, and yes I am really old school, the IS500 is a great blend of new and old. I agree the infotainment system could use work, but the seats, ride, and whole experience takes me back to old school high performance sport sedans. If Lexus marketing were aiming for the Baby Boomer and Gen X buyers, they nailed it for me. We drove the BMW, Acura, Audi, and Infinity versions of the sport sedan and they just didn't fit. So for me and my wife, this is a great compromise and hopefully will have many years of service from our IS500.

  30. I own a 2006 and it is probably the most reliable, comfortable, highway cruiser, and all around great daily driver. Mine just turned 200k and the motor still runs like new. It is INSANELY smooth and the power is still there.

  35. I actually like the regenerative/electric motor whirring noise of the hybrid. It's just a pleasant white noise to me. I remember as a young boy in the 1970s helping my Grandpa at his service station he got first hand look at a 1969 Toyota Corona that came in for an oil change. Grandpa was a diehard "buy American" old guy. He gave the Corona a once over with his shop light and said to me "I hate to say it, but these (insert racist Japanese term here) really build some solid cars." "Toyota is going to be big, you watch." 50 years later, I guess he was right.

  49. As a 1991 LS400 owner, I can say without a doubt that it has been the most reliable car I have ever owned...period. Purchased with 287,000 miles 11 years ago it still gets me around as a daily driver with close to 400k miles. I will never buy another brand again.

  50. I have been an auto technician for 47 years. I have been telling people for years to change their oil and filters more often than the factory recommends. All the engine work I have done( like rings and bearings) were because of not changing the oil enough. Can't stress this enough.
