What a fantastic documentary :) looking forward to next chapter.

@veritasium Yeah Derek I think I honestly don't care much about if this was branded by BMW or not, you made interesting points, although yes I would have loved a much more detailed video of this topic, only because it's so interesting! Also, I appreciate that you actually reply back to people about the questions/opinions they have, thanks!
1
Veritasium well, I enjoyed the video and thought it was well made, even if a lot of people didn’t.
1
Derek, honest comment here, it’s not because it was sponsored or anything, it’s just because it wasn’t like any of your other videos. We are used to your amazing quality and depthless on every subject. Cheers from Portugal!

Less brake usage = fewer brake manufactures toxic mess( ie. Meramec Caverns), and lower toxic dust on the roadways.

I think part of the reason people took issue is that some of the benefits you mention aren't benefits to everyone. Less noise is great sometimes, but it also takes away from the excitement of driving. Less moving parts and less maintenance sounds good, but it also means less ability to modify a car. And I think it dismisses the range argument too quickly. Sure, 99% of my drives are just to work or to get groceries, but the other 1% are 300 mile drives to college, 700 mile drives for vacation, and 2 1100 mile drives every summer for work. Being able to refuel in a couple minutes and get back to an 18-hr trip is huge the few times you need it.

My only objection to this video is that I‘m used to learning more from your content; this just wasn’t as informative as your channel usually is. I didn’t think this seemed like a shilling advertisement.
1
I liked the video like every other video of this channel ,I mentioned it so you will address it in future video's if possible .
1
Nah, I wish you had a more stable camera. still good content

It's not about being too branded or too pro-electric (at least IMHO, I guess the anti-electric opinion group is downvoting like crazy, but this to be expected every time you pick a side), the big problem is lack of insight, it's like you are reading from pamphlets written by others. At least include some interview with BMW people...
1
And... you need to record more videos on this subject
1
I love it anyhow It's good content and positive ad if it is You explained history within electric motors So you did excellent You are the best

"easily charge at your house" if you have a house, with a garage, solar panels and all that. if you live in an apartment, having to drive 15-20 minutes just to find a parking space on the street 300m away from home, then sure, charging an electric car is super easy.
1
Don't worry, Derek. You are doing a good job. People just like to bitch about anything, even when there is nothing wrong they make their minds with their own excuses. Thanks for everything you have ever done!
1
Man, you're fine! I thought this was a good video.
1
Sorry people suck. video was good, nothing was a lie that could tell (aside from maybe the level 4 being possibly on a closed circuit, just speculating). Got myself an electric and never going back!

You probably don't have time to read this, but this ad (and it WAS an ad) felt a lot less aggravating to me personally than the dandruff one. It looked like you wanted to make the video and then accepted money and constraints afterwards (though I'll accept your word that there were no constraints imposed). I'd have preferred a longer video looking at the science for this one - though I freely admit that that felt weird when you were talking about scalp fungus and I didn't watch that whole video). I'd like to see stuff about the infrastructure being put in place for refuelling electric cars on long trips, and how that compares with how long it took fuel stations to become ubiquitous. I know a lot of the existing stations are Tesla, though, which probably goes against a BMW branded video. Anyway, for me this one was a "mixed" - not going to hit either like or dislike, but I can see why Youtube didn't suggest it to me and I had to find it on your channel page. All the best for the next one!

Very thoughtful clarification. Thanks for that. I actually didn't like this video because, unlike most of your videos, this was not very explanatory. It felt more like mainstream media news to farm audience from a popular topic than a scientific video. I always come to this channel looking for something new, but this time you didn't bring up anything really interesting about the subject (or at least nothing that isn't already covered by every single news on the topic).

Don't worry too much about the haters. People don't realize just how hard it is to make a living at this and you don't get to just snub your nose at a sponsor. Sounds like BMW was very fair towards you with your talking points and you delivered an honest on brand video for them. Good work.

Halfway through the video I came to the comment section to voice my negative thoughts. Seeing Derek’s comment reflecting on some of his points and the video as a whole allowed me to see what the point of the video, and really put me at ease. When at first I saw this as an ignorant video, I quickly relaxed and saw it as optimistic. Without the clarification I could have seen myself leaving the video very frustrated. Thank you for being transparent and purely motivated Derek!

This did not feel like an advertisement to me. Happy to know so many companies are working on electric cars. As we have more available, all costs will lower and better ways to build batteries will develop. Thank you for mentioning the things that still need improvement, though. I'm curious, how exactly were the first electric cars run? What kinds of batteries did they use?

Who cares if this was an ad. My boy here trying to educate and make a living.

Great video as usual. For me I can't find an electric vehicle that is sufficient for my needs, but I believe it's possible. Another area of improvement would be within the home itself. There are a number of promising technologies that allow us to store high a lot of energy, but it also consumes a lot more space. What we really need is to have communities that purchase larger storage units and then contribute their energy from Solar Panels on their homes. I've made some plans to do this in my neighborhood, but as yet the community is resistive. We also need to get rid of the overdue patents on solar panel technology. This is not ideal. The costs are still very high.
