  27. When I lived in Rio my home was in a northern suburb (once a quiet neighborhood, turned into a crime-ridden shithole in a few years). During this escalation of crime there were countless UPP (former "pacifying" police units in favelas which in fact just made things worse) and even BOPE operations in the favela nearby with little to no results, but then some stuff changed when the criminals shot dead a CORE member off duty. They hadn't even mourned the dead yet in the day after CORE made a full revenge operation there, resulting in 6 criminals dead, a few more wounded and lots of captured guns. Few months later the former favela boss was also killed in a similar GIT operation (supported by CORE). Even though I don't live in the city anymore, since that day I learnt that CORE is one of a few institutions in Brazil you can't fuck with and got a mad respect for them.

  29. Biggest mistake in this video is that false claim that this war started in 2006 with Calderon. It started around 2002-2003 when the Sinaloa federation attempted to take Nuevo Laredo from the Gulf Cartel with government backing. The Leader of the Gulf Cartel at the time was Osiel Cardenas, who recruited ex military from Mexico’s special forces called GAFE, they were the original Zetas. The government arrested Osiel after a big shot out and the Sinaloans started arriving in Nuevo Laredo. The Zetas successfully defended Nuevo Lared and then countered attacked, also setting up in different parts of Mexico setting up extortion rackets and controlling local drug sales. Long story short all the older drug organizations copied the Zetas because they had to counter them. CJNG started out as an organization called the MataZetas aka “zeta killers” to push the Zetas out of Jalisco. The MataZetas were an armed wing of the Sinaloans and Michoacan drug traffickers. CJNG despite their name is controlled from people of Michoacán, their leader Mencho was born and raised in Aguililla Michoacan. The people that run CJNG now were at one point allies of the Sinaloan and Michoacán traffickers they now fight. Mencho married a woman from a big Family in Aguililla Michoacán that big time internal national drug dealers who were known as the Cuinis. The Cuinis worked with the Sinaloans against the Zetas. Point that the Sinaloans attempt to take Nuevo Laredo gave raise to the Zetas, and every other Cartel copied the Zetas on having militarized gunmen.

  34. I’m a former Taiwanese army corporal, served in what you described as “worst conditioned” frontline infantry unit(2008~2010), and I can confirm the lack of men power was real. Our post had an amazing amount of weapons manned by pathetically few men. From memory, there were 30 rifles, 10 22 caliber machine guns, 6 30 caliber machine guns, 2 50 caliber Browning M2, 2 Mk19 grenade launchers, 3 artillery pieces and tons of food and bottled water, manned by 15 soldiers, NCOs, and one lieutenant.

Regarding the accent: I've heard that a number of ethnically Russian guys at the beginning of the war went to the front through the Akhmad Regiment (because it was one of the first units to accept volunteers). It can be the case for Zulu as well. And there are also non-Chechen police and military officers serving in Chechnya. So this might explain the lack of a specific Chechen accent — the guy is possibly one of the Russians in the ranks of Akhmad. Or, he is in fact a Chechen with good English, expressing only minor traits of a native Russian speaker. UPD: No, he is definitely a Chechen. The way he pronounces mines' descriptions at 21:07 is telling. It was just difficult to catch the same accent in his much clearer English.

  50. As a Southerner who hails from a military family, I can tell you that this current military wokeness is harming their ability to recruit in their best mustering yards for the combat branches. Southern culture is different than the rest of the States, and we view the military, martial values, and the intellectual study of warfare somewhat differently than most of the other regional cultures in the US. It explains at least in part the drop in Southern recruitment.
