  2. This was an interesting video. I love that you don't include distracting music and side effects - just concentrate on the story. I'm curious why his wife was not charged, as she knew what he was doing. He was a really bad husband though, and the worst of traitors. I'm glad he wound up in a super-max prison. His actions hurt and killed a lot of people.

  3. I just finished reading the book. “A Woman of No Importance “, what an incredible American hero. She was a woman that paved the way for Women to hold important positions in The State Department and forced open doors of business for disabled citizens. We all owe Virginia a thank you for every life she saved in WW II. Peace and Light to your Soul Virginia, if we can serve Democracy one tenth of what you did, we have lived a positive existence. ❤️🇺🇸🇫🇷🇬🇧❤️

The second time he brought a 20 ton lorry (exhibiting machine tools) built by MI6 for the specific purpose of smuggling Penkovsky to Austria in a secret compartment. However, by this time Penkovsky was arrested in Moscow and as we were leaving a trade reception Greville was grabbed by 3 KGB officers, bundled into a waiting car and flown out to the trial in Moscow. This entire Budapest episode of the rendez-vous with Penkovsky was omitted from the film ‘The Courier’ . I defected from Hungary in 1965 to the U.K.

  6. They don't teach this in schools. One of the most important agents in France during WW2 has been almost forgotten. What a travesty! This woman, Virginia Hall was the bravest of the brave and gave hope to all those living under tyranny that they are not forgotten. Dear sweet Virginia, I promise I will never forget you or your heroic works. God bless you in heaven!

  7. Thank you for this video concerning the heroism of Nancy Wake. I have read numerous books and have studied history during her work and life in France. Think about it, she married a very wealthy man who adored her but they both agreed to let her fight for the French Resistance. She gave up the security and the lifestyle, to follow her internal drive to fight the Nazis. She never saw her husband again, he was captured by the Gestapo, and was killed, after no revealing anything. Nancy is a true Hero, let us celebrate her success and in our lives, when we need to stand up and do the right thing, let us remember Nancy’s courage and back bone. Be proud for standing up for the right thing, let us all be role models for our immediate family. Thank you Nancy Wake and Virginia Hall, it was an honor to learn your history.

  12. Ames seems to have been the perfect traitor, from a communist, ideological perspective. He was a capitalist so short-sighted that he endangered the very system that set up his scale of values (entirely based on matter, it would seem). Just as those Soviet citizens who spied for the West out of ideological conviction that capitalism was, on balance, better, were perfect from the perspective of the West. There would have to be more than just KGB distraction and deception operations behind the impunity with which Ames was able to work for them for so many years. A more senior mole seems very likely. Thank you for this excellent documentary.

Had he been born 3-5 years earlier or later, he might've been a completely different person - not getting to go to university during Khrushchev Thaw, not being in Berlin when the wall went up and so on. If you read his autobiography, you can really appreciate how lucky he was to even get the chance to open his eyes, so to speak. The book, Next Stop Execution, I really recommend.

  31. I was on the jury at the O)ld Bailey during this traumatic trial. Being the youngest jurer, I am probably the only one still alive. I had just reached my 29th Birthday a couple of weeks earlier. I was sitting in the notable 10th seat. There was a reason it was regarded in the evening papers as the, Notable 10th seat. It was explained to the jurers during the trial. At the time of writing this article, I am 90yrs and six months old.

When Nancy stayed at the hotel towards the end of her life . King Charles III, paid for her expenses . The mammoth bike ride with a round trip of 500km, is beyond remarkable, it was said that the person with the radio she had to meet was not that easy , with the Gestapo, and German soldiers every where . We are in debt for this generation .

  36. I agree the narration is excellent in 99.% of the video, but people need to take note that the dates stated need to be listened to very carefully. The events that occured in the 1930s are stated correctly, but the pronunciation makes it easy to mistake them for being said as 1953, 1954, 1955, etc. People have complained below that the narrator has the dates wrong. He doesn't. It's just hard to hear whether he is saying 1933 or 1953, and 1939 or 1959, etc. But now that you know to listen more carefully, you can understand it correctly,because it's not really possible to rerecord an entire video just to fix a couple of words.
