  6. As it rains here in Spokane Washington, and has been raining for several days, I let you take me on a trip far away to the Pennines. Soft Autumn sheds its colors and welcomes the crispness of winter. It will be a season of lights and delights. Family and friends gather to share food, gifts and company. Thank you again for taking me on this 27 minute vacation.

  8. I recently discovered your channel and throughly enjoy itā€™s beautiful content. I spent 21 years in the US Navy as a surface officer, Iā€™ve had the privilege of piloting several ships in a variety of ports as well as the open ocean. Iā€™m very impressed with your and Mr. Mā€™s boating handling skills. The tight turns and narrow locks and tunnels look terrifying to this former ship driver. I once piloted a cruiser on the Mombasa River to the open ocean. The river is very wide there but I felt like I was driving through a soda straw!

  9. That was a sweet thing to do for Silvia Plathā€™s memory. A sad tragedy when I looked into it. I couldnā€™t see any reference to what was and why the second name on her headstone was removed. The comment that ā€œSilvia needed her poetry for her sanity, but needed her insanity for her poetryā€ is food for contemplation.

  10. That stunning Flower Beetle with it's shimmering green covering, sitting on a Buttercup, what a beautiful contrast! God... the greatest artist of them all...his signature is on everything at every level and in detail that is just mind-boggling. Such a rich palette of colors, textures and an amazing variety of shapes. And it's all just sitting out there, like it's nothing special. I'm SO glad you take the time to notice and record these things on video! Not only is it something to marvel at, but as an artist it must be quite inspirational too. Loved the buildings and the market. Your videos have always been good, but they just keep getting better and better!

  17. What a mixed emotion journey you took us on today Vanessa. Sadness, and heartfelt condolences at your loss, but joy that we will have you with us for at least another four years. Guy and I are both mid-70s and the locks are still manageable but age-related things do creep in! The tingle in the fingers that herald the coming of arthritis; not having such a positive balance that makes you hesitate that fraction longer before stepping off at moorings; the concern of retaining the strength to battle against strong winds while cruising rivers, etc. But these things can be taken into account when planning where to go and whether we really need to dash from place to place or just take each day as it comes. I know we would still love to try continual cruising to experience all the seasons before time catches us out - so you and Mr Mindful have lots of adventures still to explore! Wiped a tear at your poem, laughed at the first-attempt honey, and looking forward to seeing the daisy emerge. Take care until the next vlog. xx

  18. Zeph on the beach is the epitome of joy. I've had many dogs, usually two at a time, and there's nothing like a dog finding sand to dig in, or something that smells wonderful on the beach, the stinkier the better, to trigger that kind of joy. It's contagious, and I'm liable to catch it too.

  20. I love how you find beauty and joy in all of the little things, and it is a good reminder for me to be more mindful. Sometimes stepping outside and it seems as if all is still and nothing is happening. But if I stop and breathe and watch, there is so much! That comment about it feeling like Narnia... That magic is all around us all the time and we just have to stop and see it. It IS the small things in life. And your gratitude is a key piece. Thank you for sharing your journey.

  21. Three weeks without you and Zephyr! Fridays will not be the same:) Loved the atmospheric stories from Abraham's Valley. Couldn't agree more that animal companions (aren't we animals too?) bring so much love, joy and freshness into our lives and the loss is deeply felt.   27. Spent 27 years operating and maintaining a wastewater plant. Wastewater plants are one of the primary methods with which we keep humanity healthy. Loved this video with the wonderful hike. The wind sounds the same there as it does here in California. Just a lovely place. I'm always impressed with your piloting skills and this episode it was working around the downed tree. Excellent. Keep up the good work. Good goose sleuthing.

  32. That was a lovely video; great to see the lesser travelled waterways and thanks ever so much for putting another item on my already burgeoning bucket list. As an ex commercial fisherman with a bit of boat experience, I have to make one comment. Please don't try to clear an obstruction from the prop area while under way. If that carpet, which was caught on your rudder or something else, had fouled the prop while you were trying to clear it, things could have got nasty very quickly. That boat hook could have taken off at great speed and anything could have happened. Always take it out of gear, or better, stop the engine before clearing a fouled prop / rudder. On another note, spent a while running a pub in Chadwick End near Knowle many years ago; very nice part of the world. Smashing vlog / subscribed. (...and don't worry, I'm not an armchair admiral who is going to be dishing out unwanted advice on every vlog...promise :)

  34. Vanessa I look forward to your vlog, it's a sheer delight to relax with a coffee and watch you and Zeph on your adventures. One of my sons owns an old 23ft Norman cabin cruiser and we cruise the Grand Union Canal mostly between Leighton Buzzard and Berkhamstead. We are both keen Anglers and quite often spend a couple of nights/days fishing where we moor the boat who's name is "Dotty". You are a very talented and artistic lady and always look so happy, which is wonderful.

  40. Wow incredible to think that men had to "walk" the walls of the tunnel to get barges through the long tunnel. and 3 hours doing so. They were tough in the day !.   41. I went out today without a coat and it felt like spring. Lovely fresh cool air in bright sunshine. We are on our way, the best time of the year with the summer before us and possible adventures to enjoy. I love your travels, go with you every week.
