I lived in a small town called Terra Alta WV from 1990 to 2013. It is the most beautiful place I have ever been. I met and know a lot of great people who live there. I can say I'm working to get me a small place back in one of them hollars. I miss it, it's where my heart is. Thanks for posting this, I can look past the buildings, knowing a lot of good, honest people live in WV. Money ain't everything.

My mother was born in Jenkinjones. I was born in Welch. Growing up in this area was extraordinary. Everyone knew each other. We took care of our family and helped our neighbors when needed. The best of times.

It's always sunny in Philadelphia theme plays

Love your videos. No annoying loud music and constant talking - you leave it to the viewers imagination. Thank you and best wishes from upstate NY!!

So sad such a beautiful area

My aunt lived in Selma and raised three children with her husband. My aunt worked at the bookstore at the mall for 30 years. Her husband work for a train company. The train pass daily right behind their house. The whole house would rattle when the train would pass. I never understood how they could sleep with the loud roar of the train just 30 feet from their bedroom window. I guess you get used to it after a while. They lived across the street from Selma elementary school and not too far from the cemetery the cemetery is full of history. It’s sentimental to me, as some of my family members are buried there. I had hoped I would’ve seen the cemetery in this video. It’s sad to see what’s happened to Selma.

Chester is a terrible place to be. I avoid driving there especially at night.

Your channel is criminally underrated man, such awesome footage. Great stuff!!
89
i just love the buildings, even if they are abandoned and run down. You can see so much charm still in them. Please do more videos of Cincinnati.
89
I'll never understand why people have to further vandalize and pollute dilapidated properties.
89
Rocky Balboa jogs through these areas during his training. That's why he was so tough.
89
So sad to see neighborhoods crumble and die 😥
88
I really appreciate that you don’t have any sound in your videos. I love your presentation of these towns and the people who still live in them. You show them respect by keeping it simple and thought provoking. Thank you for your work .
88
This channel is so powerful in the fact it shows poverty is literally everywhere that has employment issues. Black, white, city or rural doesn't matter. Wonderful work 👏
87
It is so sad to see the cities of my State Ohio going to ruins. I'm 56 years old and grew up going from Cincinnati to Cleveland to totally different cities back then. So sad.
86
Cant even believe this is real i feel like im watching a nightmare movie
85
Very special thanks for your NOT having added music to your videos. That's good taste!
84
Thank you for taking the time to record and post these videos; they make me realize how good I've got it. It's heartbreaking to think of all the families affected by the downturn of the economy in their towns.
83
If the people in that graveyard could talk, what stories they'd tell. Imagine what this place was like in their life time. Same old story: Jobs go away, town falls apart.
82
Chester is one of the top 100 most dangerous cities in the US. That church 😭
81
I drive rideshare in Knoxville. Even the worst "hoods" have some of the nicest people you'll ever meet.
81
Thank you for posting! I spent a decade in Pittsburgh and loved driving through these neighborhoods (McKeesport, Braddock, Ambridge)…thinking about how life was simpler, people had jobs and owning a home was an attainable reality if you were willing to work. My wife’s grandmother was the lead nurse at McKeesport hospital several decades ago. So many buildings and homes are just past the point of any return in these towns dotted all around Pittsburgh.
80
I am writing from Italy, thank you for the opportunity to see places far from me. I appreciate the reality of non-tourist places.
79
In West Virginia, more so than any state, the divide between the rich and the poor is so clear, it is despicable what's happening to these fine people. In no other state is the plight of the poor man more dire and it been happening for generations there.
79
Great video. Such a common sight in Kentucky and West Virginia. You see cast swatches of dilapidated homes and trailers and then a little stretch where several families have done a great job of maintenance on their homes and yards. I always look forward to your efforts and thank you.
79
I vaguely remember this area. My grandparents lived near-ish to here; I think one of my great-uncles worked at an auto factory in Highland. When the factories left, no jobs, no future.
78
Sometimes it’s hard to tell the occupied from the abandoned. Great video as always. I always feel like I’m there.
77
I lived there in the early 70’s. It was pretty depressing then too.
77
I absolutely love seeing the appalachia stuff. Keep them coming
77
Wv born & raised , if you like peace & tranquility it’s here , yes there is some places run down just like everywhere else , the wildlife & nature is beautiful here ❤❤I love it here .. thank you for all the kind comments..

My friend harold lives in East Liverpool. We both once worked at the Pottery plant there 30 years ago. It closed and I move to Youngstown found work. Harold he still waiting for the Pottery plant to open up again and in the mean time sitting at the local pizza shop eating donuts.
74
For it being the capital that’s insane how awful it looks
74
I'm a Michigander and have seen quite a few videos about the decaying areas of Detroit, but I don't remember seeing this area. It's pretty frightful. Thank you for the great video. I would have to have a very compelling reason to ever go to Detroit!
74
Can confirm this is PA due to the roads.
72
My wife raised her daughter in Montgomery Village along with their grandma in the early nineties. They've all done amazing in life and had absolutely no regrets. Why? Tennessee is actually a nice group of folks who CAN look past things and see the human inside. At least that's the way I like to see it. I'm proud of where I live in good old friendly Knoxvegas 🙂
72
I met a guy born and raised in War West Virginia while living in my hometown of Salisbury Md. He was a few years older than I was but we both played guitar as a hobby. He took a high school friend and I to visit his family one summer. His family treated us like they had known us all our lives. That trip took place just over 50 years ago. I’ll never forget it. I moved to Virginia not long after that trip. My friend Earnie Bollen from War was the most loyal friend I ever had.
72
Really sad to see so many homes and impressive buildings go to ruin. The whole area looks dead apart from a few homes that are still occupied.
72
When you take away all the jobs and the tax paying citizens leave, you are left with the remainders
71
Believe it or not, Erie today is actually one of the better Rust Belt cities. It hasn't gone completely to hell like Youngstown or Flint have. Those cities are too far gone to ever make a full "comeback". Compared to those places, Erie has a chance and has a lot of potential.
69
I was born and raised just south of Akron, when the factories started closing down in the 70's, the decay started. The people who could get, got out.
68
It's sad to see places run down like this, but once the shock wears off, as an introvert, I wouldn't mind living in a small quiet ghost town with only 170 people. 😇 Peaceful and quiet. You only saw 3 people your whole time there? Lovely! ☺ That's my kind of place!
68
These videos are depressing and amazing at the same time. I would love to have seen these places in the good days.
68
That’s an awesome bridge.
68
Great capture! Many of those Ohio Valley towns have seen better days. Wellsville, Steubenville, Bellaire, Bridgeport, Moundsville, Wheeling, etc. are so depressing now.
66
I'm 67 and grew up there. The mills closed and everybody and their cousin left town. They knew it was the begining of the end for the town.
66
Always loved West Virginia. Very beautiful place.
66
I really enjoy your videos. I am from Germany and seeing towns and landscapes from rather unknown parts of the US is very interesting.
66
I once lived there... I was a steel worker and grew up in Fayette city. The mill closed just like the coal mines did. I couldn't find work. Thanks for the video and good memories I had there...
66
Loved your video!! Being from Ohio and having lived in Kentucky, WV always fascinated me driving through it on our way to vacation spots down south. It’s so alluring to me. Some areas are so very poor, yet hauntingly beautiful. There’s no stronger person on this earth than a true Appalachian. One of the truly most beautiful states in the country for so many reasons. Thank you for making this!
