  2. I didn’t grow up in EC but I definitely have lots of childhood memories from EC. I remember seeing my first high speed chase on Mayfair on the porch with my cousin. I got my first job at Silvermans(now Roses) on Hayden back in 2012. It’s sad to see what has become of the area.

  9. I feel so bad for the children raised in this environment. This is what they know. This is normal to them. Hopefully they see this is no way of life and find a better path. I have been watching these neighborhood tours for several years... Portland, LA, Philly... none of them are getting better. From a PA native, thank you for posting.

  22. I love your quiet observation of these places. It brought back this memory: I was trucking in 2011 and loaded 42k lbs of king crab in PA worth over $500k. It delivered to the Piggly Wiggly distribution center in Montgomery. I had to park overnight on the street waiting for my 5am appt., a frightening situation. The guard (who knew what my freight was) could see me, but they've been known to be in collusion with thieves. I didn't sleep a wink for fear of being jacked. From the looks of it, not much has changed.

  23. Oddly, I thought it was a beautiful place. I loved seeing the wooded areas, the hills, the greenery covering antiguated walls, the calm, & The emptiness of it all..... like a funeral. How appropriate! A poor town that time forgot. But then, I often felt my mind wondering back to another time... of mutton sleeves, parasols, & paper collars. A hundred years & more, when all was bounitful, when people had their chance to live their dream. They say that all good things must end one day.

  29. Family lives in this area. I've drove the river road many times. It saves you from going over the mountain from War into Caretta. Downtown War has a great little grocery store. The area around War & Warriormine was recently flooded. I was told that the roads have been repaired. Totally different way of life than I live but, I love to visit. Everyone knows that you're from out of town & they want to know where you come from & why you're there.

  30. I went duck hunting a few years ago with a friend who invited me to Birmingham. I was only there for four days. I never got into the city. I'm amazed it got the same problems of blight as Detroit where I worked till I lost my auto manufacturing job. We need to invest back into are county and quit shipping jobs over seas ...

  35. Growing up in urban Philadelphia I saw Chester as a jewel. It was clean and beautiful. That was way back in the late 1950's. Very sad to see this place now.

  41. I grew up on the Sharon Line, but left at 18 when I moved away for college. My father worked at Youngstown Sheet and Tube, and later at General Motors (GM). It wasn't a bad place to live in the 60's and 70's despite the high crime rate. It's heartbreaking to see how the city has deteriorated since the mills shut down, and now GM is closed too. Thank you for documenting this.

  49. As you show all these towns around the country I would have loved to live there.Beautiful homes etc. Unfortunately we made a huge mistake not keeping our manufacturers in this country. The rich may have money but without the workers their will be less goods to buy. I loved my factory job but they left. Now people like me are old sick and dying off. I just don't see the hard work you have to put in to raise your family.
