Legitimate factual information about esoteric topics seems to be very hard to come by. I was thinking about this earlier today: channels like this with the more scholarly and "boring" (heavy quotations) tend to have a smaller, but overall more grateful fan base than the more "entertaining" (heavy quotations again) channels. We may not be the biggest fan base in the world, but we are eternally grateful for your extensive research and knowledge. Thank you Dr. Sledge!

  6. Dr. Sledge, I want to sincerely thank you for your content as a whole. I struggle with severe panic attacks that mimic a heart attack very closely. As you can imagine the anxiety and the symptoms can form a pretty nasty feedback loop. Your content and the way you present it is so engaging to me it can pull me out of a spiral that has put me in the emergency room more than once. Im going through a period of time where i dont have insurance and so cant afford my medication. Your content has gotten me through some really terrible times recently and I dont have the words to express how profoundly grateful I am to you and this channel for that. I hesitated to post this because of how personal and uncomfortable this topic is for me but I feel that its important for you to know how deeply your words and acts have positively affected my quality of life and health. Sorry for the rambling nature of this post.

  13. While the erudition provided Dr. Sledge is fascinating, I have to admit, it's his desiccated humor that brings me back. He gives his presentations in eloquent, professorial style, but then occasionally slips into common speech with phrases like "real complicated", oftened accompanied by a sarcastic eye-roll. I love this. It makes the subject more accessible. It tells the listener that, yes indeed, this subject can be dry and sometimes difficult to grasp, but he's aware of his audience and right here with us in trying to understand it in a modern context.

  23. Amazing video. This is the kind of stuff I watch this this channel for. From your previous videos on Merkhavah and Third Enoch it was clear that there was an intersection between early Merkhavah and early Christianity, with hints that it might be more than just some brief contact, so this is that follow-up I was waiting for. And the connection between the 3rd Heaven vision in Corinthians with the temple vision Acts feels like the big punch line of this episode. This certainly goes a long way to explain Paul's "I know a guy" approach and talk of not wanting to boast, beyond mere modesty. It feels crazy that having been a Christian for many decades it's only in the last couple years that I've even heard of this stuff. And by all means, more Merkhavah information would be welcome.

  28. I love listening to this channel as you open up different topics and perspectives on ancient and medieval history, philosophy, and culture. It’s a field I find fascinating, and where I know just enough to know that I barely know anything at all. When I was a child, I attended Bible camps in the summer. They were mostly summer camps with a lick of religion painted over the top; but some times the camps hired my Irish grandfather to conduct Bible classes. Usually these classes were superficial and boring, but when they had my grandfather come in, he would conduct the classes outdoors, sitting on the ground, his back to a big pine tree, and he would just narrate Bible stories (mostly from the Torah, occasionally from the New Testament) aloud, without reading from texts or notes, like a bard converted by Saints Patrick or Columba. When he got to a key point he would just break into a poem from the Bible that related to the story—the Song of Deborah, when telling stories from Judges, or the Song of the Sea when telling the story of the Exodus. Anyway, your channel reminds me of those times. Not in terms of style, but in the depth of your knowledge, the enthusiasm and energy you give us, and the gentleness and generosity of the way you share your work with us. I don’t know why this was on my mind today as I listened, but it was, and I wanted to share it with you, and to thank you for the gift of your sharing. Peace, brother. ✌️

I'm really interested in the semiotic differences and similarities between how spoken languages and programming languages operate. I feel as if a more generalized, less mechanically oriented, study of programming languages could bring us to an understanding of what "magical" languages throughout history have been designed to accomplish within the hardware of the human brain.

Also, thanks for pointing out what many Christians hope to cover up: the existence of Christian magic, homosexuality, etc. I wish this video existed when I was a kid I would love a modern exploration of Christian magic, described in some of the other comments (and a plethora of other practices), especially because the practitioners don’t view their actions as magic.
