Hey Ian, long time watcher first time commenter i just wanted to say thank you for being an inspiration to me (as well as many other guntuber’s) and inspiring me to get in gunsmithing. I hope you have and Ziga have an amazing Father’s Day

I'm already registered for this match, and I'm really excited. In light fighter though because I don't have NV gear. Also really excited to see the match related content for this event too.

@JanoTuotanto It's been so long that I forgot all about taikaviitta/magic poncho, but now it comes back. FDF Fighter's Handbook stated that when you see a nuke flash you have put on magic poncho and jump into a ditch, and the fallout can be wiped off with spruce twigs.

Just joined Utreon and immediately followed you. Your content is amazing and I love the gun history and showcasing you do

Pledged for a signed regular edition + Arming The Dragon and bookmark, excited to see how many more stretch goals will be unlocked!
35
@ForgottenWeapons the guys at Austria Arms have one and also a big collection of other rare and interesting firearms - so next time you're in the neighbourhood :)

I backed it 30 minutes before this video came out! Excited for another excellent book, Ian!

I'm liking the new European distributors both for much better postal costs and I've had mine for a week now. Superb as always and even my partner who has zero interest in the subject had a flick through and was impressed by the overall quality and photography. So much so that I didn't get any grief for spending north of £100 on a book!👍👍👍

Hello Ian, watching your balanced and interesting commentary on this modern weapon, and looking across to my YouTube feed to see your History on the Capture of Fort Douaumont reinforces just how much you have become the authoritative commentator on a wide range of topics. Thank you for your continuing good work.

I was issued an AIM-1 attached to a carry handle sans rear sight as a 240 gunner in 2002 timeframe (25th ID, Hawaii). Don't know if it was the emitter or if it was higher wattage than PEQs but that thing had a monster output. Edit: also we would use the barrel clamp mount out of the BII for PAQ-4s to attach IR lasers to the barrel of the M14 SDMRs. Pretty solid lock up if you torqued it down uniformly. It was a wild time making stuff up with equipment ranging in age from before Vietnam to 'this was tested by DARPA two weeks ago, here, use it'.

It was a lot of fun shooting in your squad! I wish your gear worked better for you, but such is Brutality!
34
Love the comradery and sportsmanship you see in these. Looking forward to day 2!
34
Got the book Yesterday in Denmark. Absolutely a wonderful treat for the eyes and mind. Very much looking forward to the whole series.
34
Took me 7s to get Finnish Brutality tickets... But I did practice and had all my info on autofill 😂
34
Just got mine delivered!!

The impact these Headstamp books are going to have on the collectors market is going to be very interesting. I wasn't super interested in the French firearms, but after reading through Ian's book twice now I've been inspired to try and get my hands on a MAS-36. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's been inspired like this.
33
Very interesting to learn more about my great grandfather.
33
finally found a usecase for those finned projectiles we saw at shotshow that Carl lambasted

Excellent video, Ian - it's nice to see someone explain the functioning of this pistol so clearly. As for this new version of the AutoMag, I have one of the first 77 models (called the Founders Edition) and I'm delighted with it - so much more reliable than the original models (one of which I also own) and the staff at Automag in South Carolina are very responsive.
33
The mailman just delivered your book. This turned out amazing!

Hey Ian! Congratulations! When you first announced this book, I said I couldn't get it. Well, now I did. I had to ask my father for help because I'm not working at the moment, but he's a big history buff so I knew he couldn't resist. I already own Chassepot to Famas and the purple edition of Pistols of the Warlords, and I'm glad to say Clockwork Basilisk and Who invented the Wheelgun will look great next to them. Sadly, I really can't afford Swords and Tobacco of the Emperor. I would really, really enjoy buying those, but it's really impossible for me to do at this time. Perhaps later on, if you do a reprint when I have some money to spend, I'll get those two (and Thorneycroft!) Congratulations again!
32
Just bought a drop in trigger, I wish the company the best of luck. Thank you for bringing their plight to my attention, Ian.
32
Hey congratulations for the success of the project! I hope you guys don’t pour too much into this one book. I’m a longtime subscriber and I hope this isn’t the last publishing project we see from forgotten weapons. Excited for my signed copy!

I love how people always say that gun need folding stock, when its really good only for storage in tight spaces like APC or when you have 10000 of rifles in storage. In real life no one really use folding stock, people just hang it as it is on the wall or put it in closet. They fold/unfold it only when they show off or when they carry it from home/range to car, but they have space for whole gun in their car, its not like they drive mini cooper...
32
First morning I have the privilege to watch my favorite channel as I also loving flip through my copy of CHASSEPOT to FAMAS. Fast delivery I must say... my tiny library has never looked so fancy. Thanks Ian ..ps my wife asked , between you and your wife who has the greater hair regime?....
32
Just wanted to shamelessly plug the Forgotten Weapons Jaakaripuukko 140 from Varusteleka. Mine arrived recently and it's a dandy of a knife.
32
Just a pronunciation note which you've probably heard before, but none the less, the OY at the end of Finnish company names is not a word, but an initialism meaning Osakeyhtiö or Joint-stock company, so you'd pronounce the individual letters rather than say it as a word.
31
I get my salary next week and as a humgarian gunsmith I'm obligated to get this book
31
I'm in. Backer #11. 11 is my lucky number too.

I hope you liked the bar as well! I had my hand in the design and building of that (or at least the stuff that was carried over from the first Sotima)! 😉

The Spruce must flow!

Something genuinely interesting in these grey and depressing times.. well done.. your doing the community.. and historic record a service...
31
Thank you, Ian for your help! Not only are you a top professional who is very pleasant to listen to but your heart is in the right place. Ukrainians are grateful, Sir. 🤝
31
Wow... it was only when you said "...if you are still here, boy, you are quite a dedicated viewer..." that realised I had been watching for 32 minutes. As a post apartheid immigrant to South Africa I found this bit of history so fascinating. It is a pity that the South African small arms industry which was so innovative in its hey day, albeit for all the wrong reasons, has withered away to a shadow of its former self.
31
You've sure come a long way on your mission to record and preserve firearms. What you've accomplished is truly amazing and outstanding. I'm sure there was a time when you had to beg, borrow and bribe to get access to different weapons. Now it seams like every museum big or small is sending you invitations to look over their collections. You've made yourself a name in firearms history that will be spoken of many years after you leave this world for whatever awaits us. Perhaps a firearms heaven where John Moses Browning sits at a round table with both Hiram Maxims, Kalishnicov, Stoner, Ingram, Colt and Smith and Wesson just to name a few. What a wonderful place that would be.
30
Well, I can tell you that 300 sets of 'new old stock' 1st Pattern handguards were imported into the USA back in 2019. How do I know? I sold them to the importer😁
30
Honestly , I had , pre Ian , little or no interest in French Weapons , you have kinda changed all that ! Your work is much respected !
30
Great video Ian! Shouts out to Žiga for wearing the shirt :) I love my X-16!!!
30
i seriously just created a Floatplane account just because you mentioned it and i refuse to use patreon due to their extreme anti-free speech stance. now i can finally give you guys some of my money. lol
30
Patreon totally worth it. Lots of extra content, I'm happy with it for years.

Just preordered a signed copy! 🎉😊

For the first time I have the means to jump on immediately to a preorder for these books.

Derek is truly the drengr with a pile of sisu attitude! He has my greatest respect. Thanks Ian for this great video.
29
...My dumbass actually took to wikipedia to search up this 'weapon'. You got me good Ian.
29
I chose the 00 Agent Bundle before the video was finished. 🤪 Never been dissatisfied with Headstamp. But..... Mr. Ian McCollum You must consider selling heavy duty book shelf in the next Kickstarter campaign. The book collection i got is getting very HEAVY. My current book shelf is making noises it has never made before. 🥵
29
I'm so proud of helping make this video possible, real "look mom I'm on TV" moment would quite love similar videos on other gear, have always been fascinated by how a weapon is actually used in practice
28
Thank you for the informative answers. I would add to the last question about anti aircraft weapons. The number of down planes went way up with the widespread use of proximity fuses. The number of kills went up. Both the Germans and the Japanese knew there was some technological advantage but were unable to reciprocate. In terms of technological advancements during the war. proximity fuses rate just behind early computers for code breaking and radar as having the biggest effect over the course of the war.
