Outstanding work, man. Well done and well deserved. :-)

I met him for the first time at the Les Invalides museum in Paris. It was a memorable experience. Thanks Ian.

Hey Ian, you're such a good presenter and your content provides so much useful and interesting informations. Great work!
51
Looking forward to Forgotten Weapons 2020. The WW1 tour was definitely the high point of 2019 for me, would love to see another Ian guided tour in 2021. Cheers and best wishes in 2020

I congratulate the USA on Independence Day from Russia!

The funding just edged over $273,000 All I did was pre-order a book, but it feels like being a part of something special
49
the LA on the second stock is barely visible (I can only see the A), and in the end, a R is visible, so it reads: LA VERITE GAGNERA ==> Truth will win

The good old days of empire, suitcase packed, check, passport and pistol check..Catching the steamer to Oran.

I fancied it. I got that sweet shipping notification for my book!
48
Welcome to Finland again Ian! We have proper winter this year!

Finally! Information on a weapon that is iconic in South Africa due to it's popularity amongst the boers in the mid to late 1800's. It has been virtually impossible to find an in-depth look at it until now. Thank you Gun Jesus!

As a Fr3, I can say that the pronunciation of French words by Ian is almost as good as a French person. I have this idea that it is lab visit during the day and French lessons at night... Thanks for the videos!

I'm going to ignore all of the anti-cop posts and simply offer some insight. I was certified as a chemical agent instructor in the 90's. It was driven home that flight-rite and other launched chemical agents, other than less lethal rounds, were not to be fired at people due to their potential for injury. There are several other rounds that are also available. Also, the term "gas" is incorrect, despite it being written on the gun. The correct term is chemical agent, as the agents are particulate matter suspended usually in smoke, or sometimes in a mist form, but are not actually gases.

Some curious: In the 50s two provinces of Argentina changed their names. Chaco Province became "Provincia Presidente Per贸n" and La Pampa Province became "Provincia Eva Per贸n". The BMs of the police of this provinces have the respectives Marks. After the revolution of 1955 That provinces return to their original names and the marks of Pistols were erased. So few Pistols survived this erased procedure and actualy are very scarce. Another curiosity: the personal pistol of Engineer Carlos Ballester Molina is a model "Campe贸n" (Champion), the only Campe贸n in 45 ACP聽with 7 inch barrel, with fins, and the engraved leyend: " No me gustan los importadores" (I don麓t like importers). Unas curiosidades: en los 50s 2 provincias argentinas cambiaron sus nombres, Chaco pas贸 a llamarse Provincia Presidente Per贸n y La Pampa Provincia Eva Per贸n. Las BMs de las respectivas polic铆as fueron marcadas as铆.

Good news i got an email stating my books are on their way, thanks Ian better late than never ;) PS: one of your books is going to Renaud Kerbrat the famous french firearm designer

Turkish officer here. In early 2000's when clearing out a PKK (kurdish insurgents) stash in Siirt province in a cave after which inhabitants killed or routed, 4 of these Mausers appeared, 3 from a box and one from the body of a higher ranking terrorist. Two of them had the same Abdulhamid II tugras and the other two were original mauser oberndorf. We filed the captured guns as two former ottoman and two imperial german specimens, all were chambered in 7.63x25mm and none had wooden holsters. Also noticed that the kurds were using soviet Tokarev TT ammuniton with it. Standard procedure with the captured material in Turkish Gendarmerie is to identify the gun > check if their serial numbers are in the system > Place them in a box with a copy of the report > send to Ankara MKE for revealuation / Rechambering / Redistribution. Some captured East German Mpi47/AK's for example can be issued in western provinces thus. If the gun seems in a workable state it is either redistributed or sold to the interior for a price. Usually discounted to the law enforcement. Ashamed to say that the guns or the confiscation report have never reached Ankara back then. It didn't even reach half way. On the way I heard that some higher ranking officials fucking plundered it. Because everyone knows they are rare, has a ww1/gallipoli connection and in the second hand market they are easily sold five figures. Such is the value of C96 in Turkish sentiment. And oh these are almost always called "Boxed Mauser" / Kasali Mauser in Turkish. Thanks for the video!
47
KEep your chin up Ian, I believe in you and KE Arms.

Your Finnish Brutality videos gave me the drive to train for Finnish Brutality myself

Just a side note .......I ordered Ian's book on WW2 U.S. weapons on November 27th and it arrived at my door on December 2nd.......WHY DID IT TAKE SOOOOO LONG? Oh yeah, it's an outstanding read! I'm already looking forward to his next book.....Japanese? German?

Actually Ian the half-life of radium is 1600 years so it's lost little to no radioactivity. What has happened is the phosphor that is excited by the radium and does the actual glowing has been bombarded to the point it no longer fluoresces. As a rule radio isotopes themselves do not glow, they are mixed with a phosphor that when bombarded with particles by the isotope is excited and glows in the same way a fluorescent tube works.

THANK YOU IAN FOR A WONDERFUL SERIES! I've been a Patreon of Forgotten Weapons since the days of the musical intro - so 2013-ish, and I have to say - this series on the Enfield, has been my absolute favorite! Pure "Squeeee" in each video of this series. A No. 4 MK1 was my first rifle I bought as an adult, and I just love them.

Hello Ian, We possess two unconverted examples: :Gendarmerie 脿 cheval (Chatellerault manufactured) issued to the 1st Hussars and a Gendarmerie 脿 pied (St. Etienne manufactured) with its socket bayonet. Both dated 1870. Furthermore, have been range evaluated on YouTube with and without bayonet fixed. Regards. G and L A-R-West

I will personally attest to their wool tshirts. Also if you get a size down and you have an average build you'll look ripped.
43
I've been futzing around with the AR70/90 that I had built, and I think the spring clip on the front pin actually goes between the upper receiver shell extension and the right hand trunnion ear. If you move it over there it acts as a captive spring for the pin. There is a little channel stamped into the shell extension, and I think that is for the spring.

Just ordered my copy of the collector鈥檚 edition. More than happy to support Mr. Ferguson, one of my favorite firearms people on YouTube
42
My department (Mass State Police) used the M60 semi auto carbine for many years, until the 1970s. They also used the Thompson and the M1 carbine.

3:00 Ian: for the first 2 divisions that are being sent over- My brain: OVER THERE!... OVER THERE!.. SEND THE WORD, SEND THE WORD, OVER THERE!
41
I had a friend come to me with one of these made pre-war and the fit and finish was fantastic. Despite the weird looks it fit my hand well. The 'exposed sear feature' is something I'd only read about and it was cool to finally get to see it and demonstrate it in person. It's a much better pistol than the type 14 though that round is pretty wimpy.
41
Thank you Ian for your efforts to entertain and educate us every day because of you I can say that I'm smarter every day hehe and I am! Stay safe stay healthy so we will be able to enjoy your content for years to come. Greetings from sLOVEnia east europe we LOVE you gun Jesus!!!!!!

This drops just as I have to go to work. Sigh! Love the patch, as a Brit with an SLR (not UK based) I will be making a purchase!

Buying real estate in France is very very different and having a lady like this is essential. Not least of which for the reason that construction and the way buildings have aged are radically different from the US.
39
Merry Christmas Ian! Congrats on 2k! Your channel and work in general has given me joy in a world that gives me very little. In a community that can often be crude and vitriolic, you are a calm voice of reason and sophistication. I look forward to many more years of your work (and Karl too!), and i鈥檓 glad we got to live on this planet at the same time! Cheers to you brother!
39
I remember the Chinese Mystery Pistol video that Ian did a number of years ago, that was my first introduction to the channel and I've been watching religiously since. Definitely going to support this new project!
39
If you can get a pinky finger down onto the mag to stop it bouncing the jams go away. They were all like that to some extent
39
The Bernardelli was not Transferable. This is the same one that sold at RIA (or Julia, I can't remember) a couple years ago as a dealer sample. I actually called Morphy to have them check on it and they amended the description to remove its "Transferrable" status.
38
This is really cool - first hard evidence I've ever seen for swapping of cylinders. Obviously still not a quick reload and not for the middle of a firefight, but shows at least one user group did this.
38
Hi Ian, as always another great video! I am currently saving up some money so I can sunscribe to your Patreon (the 20$ tier one) since I think that you're one of the best content creators on Youtube and certainly one of my top 3 Youtubers of all time. Keep up the great work!
38
Been a subscriber and patreon for years now and your continuing growth and development are of great joy to me . Congratulations boss, your ludicrous work ethic and knowledge should be rewarded !
38
Thank god you plastic wrap those books. It was raining cats and dogs last night. US Post Office left the package in front of my garage last night, instead of our covered front porch, like our usual driver does. Just plain laziness on their port
38
My great-great-grandfather went over for that convention, from what he wrote his wife he seemed heavy-hearted with being back in France and walking the battlefields. He and his cousin(from Yugoslavia) had arranged to meet in Paris during the convention with the intention of bringing his cousin to the U.S. it must have worked as his cousin became a U.S. citizen in 1928.
37
Similarly to your experience with the Chautchat here. The 'Home Guard Pocket Manual' specifies that the BAR 'The rifle is capable of a high rate of accurate fire when used as a single shot weapon. Owing to the difficulty in holding the weapon when firing bursts these should only be used in an emergency'. Later on in the war the use of bursts was banned even in emergencies.
37
Anybody else get the "You still with me?" reference to the end shootout in Way of the Gun? Ian, can that one be next, please?
37
Long time bilingual resident of Japan here. Cheers to Ian, headstamp, and the author for producing a book on a topic I had never thought of or heard of. Definitely buying this one.
37
I know that this isn't the usual content for the channel, so probably has lower views overall, but I just wanted to express my appreciation for these looks at pre- and non-firearms weapons and history videos. Hope to see more of these in the future.
37
The Hanyang rifle video got me convinced to add Arming the Dragon. Now I'm really convinced I made the right choice!
37
I'm signed up! God, I hope it doesn't rain again lol. The first night this year was miserable.
