Google Maps will change Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America in US Google Maps will change the name of "Gulf of Mexico" to "Gulf of America" once it is officially updated in the U.S. Geographic Names System, Google said in an X post on Monday (January 28). Nyima Pratten reports. The change will be visible for U.S. users, but the name will remain "Gulf of Mexico" in Mexico. Outside of the two countries, users will see both names on Google Maps. U.S. President Donald Trump ordered the name change as part of a flurry of executive actions hours after taking office last week, making good on a campaign promise. "America will reclaim its rightful place as the greatest, most powerful, most respected nation on earth, inspiring the awe and admiration of the entire world. A short time from now, we are going to be changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America." The Trump administration's Interior Department officially changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America on Friday. Mexicans Reuters spoke to on the Gulf coast rejected Trump's bid to rename it last week. “Honestly, it’s wrong – because the Gulf of Mexico will always be the Gulf of Mexico, that’s the way it is, and it doesn’t need to change.” Google has applied the same locale-based labeling conventions to other locations subject to geographical naming disputes. #breakingnews #googlemaps #trump #gulfofmexico #gulfofamerica Connect With news.com.au Online ► [https://www.news.com.au] https://bit.ly/3WC8hOP ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Follow Us: Facebook ► [https://www.facebook.com/news.com.au/] Instagram ► [https://www.instagram.com/newscomauhq/?hl=en] Podcast ► [https://newscomau.org/FromTheNewsroom] TikTok ► [@news.com.au] Twitter ► [https://twitter.com/newscomauHQ] ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Subscribe To Our YouTube Channel For The Very Latest News From Australia And Around The World: ► [https://www.youtube.com/@newscomauhq] ► [https://www.youtube.com/@newscomauhq/shorts] ► [https://www.youtube.com/@newscomauhq/videos] ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

  20. Fears Australian POW believed dead for weeks, executed by Russians #breakingnews #russia #ukraine #POW #war Oscar Jenkins, a 32-year-old Australian schoolteacher who fought for Ukraine before being captured by Russia has been likely executed after being robbed by a gang of brutal enemy Russian soldiers nicknamed ‘orcs’, news.com.au understands. What is believed to be his body was discovered near a temporary prisoner of war camp, with gruesome theories emerging about his fate. Former Australian soldier and military lawyer Dr Glenn Kolomeitz is in touch with another Australian in Ukraine’s fighting forces. That soldier claimed Ukrainians have taken drone footage of a body matching Mr Jenkins at an area where the Russians were known to be holding prisoners temporarily, further solidifying fears that the reports of his death are true. “It would have been an execution,” Dr Kolomeitz told news.com.au. It comes as Australia’s Prime Minister has vowed “the strongest possible action” if it does indeed come out that Mr Jenkins was killed in cold blood by his Russian captors.
