  2. I left Melbourne in 2020 and moved to FNQ, buying a place in 2021.. And now that place is worth double.. There's no way I could enter the housing market now, I got damn lucky.. But the cost of living has sky rocketed. In 2021 I only needed a minimum of 500 dollars a week before anything went into my savings/luxury.. Now I need 900 a week. Tax return from the past 2 years has me owing an extra 2k each year. If things don't change soon, I may be forced to find another job.. The median income is so close to being poor, its wild.

  5. A real estate bubble is the last resort as a government desperately maintains artificial growth of the headline GDP. It happened in many economies, including Japan, US, China etc., but they ended up in a deeper recession because propping up a bubble inevitably deepens inequality.

  9. Yep i hear you Chris. A 3 litre milk bottle in NZ is now $6.34 nzd, a few months ago it was only $5.34 nzd, and in early 2023 it was around $5. I think rent is ridiculous too. Back in 1998 a 2 bedroom place would have been between 200 to 250 nzd, and now it can range between 500 to 600 nzd.

Plenty of countries would love to get there hands on Australia ( more than they do now ) , Many would bulldoze solar/ wind, build new cities, build 20 more power stations ( power the country for free first , sell the extra) , build steel & lumber factories. Build massive manufacturing of every kind. Imagine China getting the keys to OZ tomorrow? I recon 2 years , global production facility.

I agree with you completely, everything is stuffed in this country but because of that Australia is no longer a great country. You simply cannot say that after listing out heaps of things that are wrong with this place. IMO it’s because we bring in too many people, if our economy doesn’t grow (and it evidently has not) then the more people we have the less everyone ends up with. I don’t care if people want to scream racism, we take plenty of immigrants from other Commonwealth countries too who aren’t people of colour. Our politicians have destroyed this country. I don’t find enjoyment living here anymore. 1/3 of Australians are born overseas, the culture has disappeared, I hear and see foreigners everywhere I go (and I’m also talking about Kiwi, UK, Canadians etc), there’s no pride for this nation, everyone is obsessed with hoarding as much property as they can, people are much more selfish these days. This place sucks and the only people who think it’s still good are those who left their country and arrived here recently.

  12. Very well said and I totally agree. I purchased my first house in 1999. It was a 4 bedroom house with 2 bathrooms and cost me $165,000. I still live in the same area and similar houses are nearly 1 million dollars. I’m a health professional and I could not afford a house now. I feel so sorry for younger people as it’s become bloody impossible.

  14. I live here in QLD. Self employed same business over twelve years. This is the worst January / February I’ve had in ten years. I have no bookings at all. Last year I did 3/5 bookings every day. I have one job booked next week.

  15. My Mrs has had to do an extra work shift a week for the first time ever. We are still worse off than ever before. Our basics are amply taken care of but those luxury item purchases, pubs, dining out, overseas holidays etc.. are pretty much gone. I cant imagine how those who struggle with the basic necessities are coping. The sheer incompetence of the political duopoly is disgusting.

Au politicians somehow managed to - take a very resource rich land, a small EASILY managed population compared to other countries (as the population rises the more exponentially complex and difficult it is to manage), geographically positioned where there are no border issues, has a great trading and tech partnership with the U.S. and the Commonwealth countries, and stable infrastructure. AND despite all of this - somehow managed to screw it up this goes beyond incompetence and is close to criminal negligence. As a senior worker in government Health- i am disgusted on a daily basis of all the horrific waste and inefficiency i see from ppl who piss away money and resources without a thought. I can just image that this is not limited to the healthcare sector alone. fact is, we have the wrong ppl in the wrong positions all across government

  24. I totally agree with this sentiment! I was just talking about how, despite earning more than I ever have, I’ve never felt more financially stretched. As adults, we've worked hard our whole lives not only for ourselves but with the expectation that our kids would have a better future. Growing up in housing commission homes, I remember times when we were genuinely poor, but we still had a home-cooked meal with meat and veggies on the table every night. Fast forward to now, and the cost of basic things like potatoes, carrots, and fruit has become outrageous. How is anyone expected to afford a healthy diet? Meat is out of reach for most, and even when we do get it, the quality is terrible. Chicken prices are through the roof, and now eggs are expected to double in price! It feels like the only option is to rely on cheap processed food, which doesn’t seem accidental. And it’s crazy that we can buy Aussie beef and lamb, not to mention other Aussie products like Tim Tam cheaper overseas than we can here! Why isn’t anyone asking why this is happening? It's a real concern, we are being treated like muggs!

  28. I'm now earning double what I did a few years ago ($80k), yet I’m barely saving anything. It’s strange because I used to go out a lot, eating, drinking with friends every Friday (have a lot of fun), I don’t do any of that anymore. These days, I just go home, pay rent, buy food, and try to save. I am never enjoying life anymore, always worrying and thinking about work... Granted, I’ve upgraded from renting a room in a share house to a one-bedroom apartment (i needed some peace), but even with that, the numbers just don’t add up, not even close.

  30. Housing was affordable when wages were growing faster than inflation. But globalisation, mass immigration, and housing investment incentivisation has caused wages to go backwards almost every year. Thank you every liberal government, every Labor government since Howard. I think at this point we need a pretty substantial UBI to supplement wages because the corporations aren't going to do it and with ai making so many jobs redundant. It would almost be funded just by dismantling centrelink, a flat 15% no deductions corporate tax or a resources royalty in the vicinity of Norway.

  31. Some of my own personal tips: 1. Don't get discouraged if things get slow or you don't get big orders; those thumbnails with $20-30 orders are not the norm. The whole thing is like fishing. 2. Don't beat yourself up if you make mistake. It happens to the best of us. Just learn from the mistake and move on. 3. Don't stress yourself out. Delivery services are meant to get rid of one of the biggest stressors in life: having a boss.

The bad customers report these orders after the old data is deleted. The only way to protect yourself is to record 100% of your deliveries and upload them to youtube.
