  3. There's another important distinction that I don't think was directly addressed that would have helped illustrate your point. In the close-up images of the phosphor dots, some of them are only half lit up, like they're cut in half, because the beam striking that area is not quite lining up to hit that spot straight-on usually because of the beam timing and the dot pitch.

Wholeheartedly agree about the increased need for intentionality in choices, exploration of nuance, and mindful context awareness.   10. Wow, I'm surprised at how wrong you are here. No worries, lemme help you out. "Most" semi-modern gas fired high efficiency forced air heating systems are either multi-stage or infinitely variable. And by semi-modern I mean within the last 20 years. A multi-stage system is as it's name implies, it is not however "full-blast" as you have described it. That is without getting into the variable speed blowers which accompany all multi-stage or infinitely-variable systems. Thermostats also come in multi-stage or infinitely-variable flavors. My current Honeywell stat is capable of controlling up to 3 stages. Yes, on or off any one stage at a time but with varied levels of heat output depending on which stage is being called. In the video you said the blue wire does nothing. Well...... That looks to be your "C" terminal (common) and it does a whole lot more than nothing! Most modern smart thermostats will not function without the "C" terminal. You really need to do some more homework on this stuff before you definitely tell folks how their HVA/C system works. I've given you enough reason to do a lot more homework on this subject, but I'd suggest you take this video down to correct your mistakes. The rest of the world is far less kind then I.

  11.  @TechnologyConnections  Perhaps killing HVAC at the breaker panel would be too aggressive (and it wouldn't know the temperature in your house anyways). It'd probably work better as a smart thermostat integration to modify the set point when the load from other circuits high. So essentially like a load-shedding message from your utility, but instead coming from the panel.

If you're already "messing" around with powder of gel, it's easier to fill the compartment and toss a blob into the machine or on the inside of the door. Yeah, toss a little Vinegar in too occasionally if required. I happen to live in the NW of the UK, we have some of the best water on the planet I think. No hint of Calcium, metals or anything that builds up, and only ever varies slightly in pH from 6.8 to 7.1. When I think they may add a small dash of Bleach in the summer months, as that is usually when it goes below neutrality. But it also requires the individual has the realisation or thinks about it in the first place. Many people seem now to have lost or never developed that skill or talent.

  20. As bonkers as this all is, it does feel imminently understandable, and present. There isn't a microprocessor where a bunch of inputs disappear to create complicated outcomes, you can see every part of it working. There's no black box. I really enjoy that. I feel like I could now design a simple little pinball cabinet using these fundamentals now, if I wanted to.

  29. Yes, that's what google says a pixel is, and it's an incomplete definition. They key point of what a pixel is has to do with being individually manipulated. As demonstrated with the shadow mask, the electron gun does not give a lick whether it actually falls on a phospher or not. That is a huge difference. I can turn on pixel 300,280 and give it an RGB intensity of 2A7033 on a digital display. It will happily do so. The best an CRT display can do is vary the intensity of it's beam on line 280, after a certain period of time past the h blank and hope the phosphors that get lit are visible through the mask. That's why old school consoles are in such lockstep with the crt's rate of refresh. The console knows what it put out the field previously, and some can know whats in the next field, but it could only guess what is sitting under the beam and being lit by use of registers that count what line the display is currently drawing and another counter that tracks to the hblank. From there it could "address" individual parts of the screen and know what should be displayed there. I say should because the console couldn't actually know what's there, it just knows what it is attempting to paint there. This is most telling in the atari where bits of the play field aren't displayed because the cpu had to take over to run the program code during the h blank, for a brief moment the tv had no information as to what to do with the electron gun and thus didn't fire until the display routine took over. In modern displays, I can look at the digital output and know the exact location and intensity of every dot on the screen. They are pixels, and can be directly manipulated.

  31. Do not forget one of the most important reasons back in the 80’s for using the pcm converters, was RECORDING ON LOCATION. Sony made the magnificient PCM F-1, that linked to the portable VCR Beta recorder (both running on batteries) was an excelent choice recording live music, sound fx etc.

  33. I've been driving an EV, VW ID.3, for 18 months now. I live in Finland, and I've charged it from the 1x230V schuko the whole time, summer and winter, using the 8 amp type 2 cable that came with the car. So just 8A x 230V, 2 kilowatts, basically because the internet says that you can't do it so I wanted to see if you can. And you absolutely can. At the dead of winter, at minus 25 degrees centigrade, the charging speed drops from 7 km/h to 5 km/h but that's it. At about negative 15 to 20 degrees C it still charges just like in the summertime. I've driven about 14 000 km per year.

  34. You're not looking at the total energy expenditure, and are wrong about "more harmful greenhouse gasses". First, the furnace produces greenhouse gasses too. Second, energy source mix is relevant. Third, large units are more efficient. If you produce the required energy in a power plant it'll have lower emissions than if you burn something locally. Sure there are transfer losses, but not enough to negate the difference. Just my opinion as an engineer. I look at the chain, not the end point.

Thank you for both correcting and clarifying some items I can tell you the first video changed how I do dishes forever, after years of rental nightmare washers the simple facts like "use prewash" and how much of an impact letting my water warm up allowed me to go from a dissatisfied pre-rinser to someone who can just throw whatever into the dishwasher and have it come out perfect Now I am also going to go back to using powder (I was on liquid because of the same issue you had) and going to be doing more cleaning of the washer itself!

I'm surprised your research didn't turn up the real reason for the demise of half frame, because it has been discussed a lot: it did well in Japan, but flopped in North America, because in those days most people shot slides, which had to be mounted in cardboard, and Kodak who processed most of the slide film refused to supply cardboard mounts for half frame images because they wanted people shooting more film, not less. The meant getting back your slides with two images together in one mount, with the outside edges of each cut off by the mount. If it had been introduced years when prints dominated over slides, it might have stood a better chance.

  50. Great followup video! I'm in full agreement with all of your points, definitely valid. My wife and I switched from Cascade packs to Cascade powder after your first video, and are happy to report a massive improvement. We have one of the blender (as opposed to filter) types of dishwashers, and used to have major issues with large food particles being stuck on the inside of most of our drinking glasses after a full wash. With powder in the pre-rinse compartment (and a little extra sprinkled on the door due to our hard water), the issue went away completely and has not returned. We've shared these findings with several friends who have reported similar. Thanks for showing the world that expensive packs don't mean better results 👍
