Nothing like vintage steam, train - - - ship - - - steam traction engine or a steam-powered showman's engine "best from England" Thanks for posting.

I remember the S curves and LSD being East of Soldier Field. THose were feats of engineering to accomplish

For a history lover like me that thumbnail looks much promising ☺️

Cook County is so over crowded, we house inmates for them all the way down here at are jail here in Mercer County, IL which is about 3 hours away from Chicago. I guess it helps support are little jail but makes you go wow at the same time...

Not only New York's busiest bridge but the busiest bridge in the World. Designed for the future addition of a lower deck the towers were built to be adjusted when the added weight of the deck was imposed upon the towers. They could actually move the tops of the towers backwards to allow for the additional weight of the lower deck. Amazing engineering.

Used to enjoy visiting chicago, even with my kids, about 10 years ago it just went down hill.

As a New Hampshire native in NYC who visits my family frequently, I use the Hell Gate Bridge all the time to go visit my family! In fact I rode across it yesterday
6
Great video!

This was my favorite rail line as a child. I used to travel with my grandmother one The City of New Orleans from the 63rd and Woodlawn station to the south.
6
Great video I grew up in the coal regions, grandfather was a miner …Scranton area.

15:20 OF COURSE THERES A LOT OF FERRIES IN SAN FRANCISCO!

Hey I just want to say that this is really well written. I learned a lot and I really love the ending. It's true, we look back at times of the past saying how could they live like that. In the future, we'll be the people they say that about. Thanks for making this :)

Being born & raised In the south bronx took many a walks and bike rides to Randall's Island. Gotta wonder if & how many of them sunken ships may still be submerged
6
Randall's Island had really changed, that could be a video on its own.... Thanks for posting......
6
Thanks!

Great video as always! I have a video suggestion: The Western Union Building. This has been a building near the wtc site built in 1873 and the top floors burned down in 1890
6
This is a fine piece of work, thanks so much.
6
Great tour and description of historic background. Thanks.

Subscribed for McRen shout out 😂

I love Coney Island. I lived in Brooklyn and we used to go swimming, drop some change in the batting cages, and ride the Wonder Wheel which scared me. Also rode the Cyclone, once. And later out to see the Cyclones (Class A, Mets farm team) play baseball in that great little park by the beach. Part of Astroland's appeal was its tackiness, almost like the old fairs. And that boardwalk from Brighton Beach was great for running.
6
Another fine historical watch thanks to Ryan......
6
Fascinating! You mentioned Wisconsin And Southern Railroad, I watch videos from Roman's Milwaukee Roads , he has excellent footage of that railroad. Greetings from Port Saint Lucie, Florida.
6
I simply love obscure history facts ty for creatin this channel bruh !
6
Btw- Sinkholes are everywhere around Frostproof, but mostly in cow pastures and farm land. It is always a huge fear of mine, and its from my childhood..
6
The Wreck of the PennCentral and The Men Who Love Trains are great books for morning on the downfall of the PRR, NYC and ultimately the PC as Conrail was formed.
6
Loved this one! Thank you for consistently keeping Brooklyn in the fold. I hope at some point you can take a deep dive into Brooklyn’s Historic Weeksville. Thank you for your great content.
6
Liking the new tame intro. No longer ‘rip headphone users’ As always great video and history, very informative!
6
Great Video!
6
I've lived in Chicago for nearly all my 23 years, never new about these tunnels. Ive always known of the pedway, but this is something else
6
This was very informative, now how about a video on Henry Flagler’s railroad to Key West?
6
My grandfather retired from the Illinois Central.
6
More twin cities history!! ❤❤
6
Would have loved to learn more about the train station in its heyday. Pics from then, tenants in the office tower, etc. Nice video but could have been about half a dozen other buildings in Detroit. Great job!
6
8:57 Ryan, be careful talking about the curvature of the earth, you'll get all those flat-earthers wound up! 😂
6
It's truly unfortunate the obstacles that prevented this from going forward. Shows just how much power and influence that the major existing railways had during that time. Not to mention that The Great Depression played a big part that he seemingly overcame eventually. I honestly believe it's something that would & could still be used today if it had only been able to take off. Thanks Ryan for bringing this to us!
6
Oh my GOSH!!!!!!! This is SO AMAZING!!!!!! Something like this still needs to exist today!! Ride at your own risk!
6
Great video on the IC! Thank you!
6
@ITSHISTORY both entrances are near the Chicago River one is on the south side one is on the north side. Both are controlled by the city, and are staging points. The rest I was told was a “need to know basis” I did not need to know 🤭
6
My sister and I went there a few years ago. Our paternal grandfather's and grandmother's names are on one of the bronze plaques from when they came over on the banana boat in 1911.
6
Pictures don't do the building justice. When in Chicago, it's worth taking an art Deco tour with the Chicago Architecture Center and visiting these buildings. It's money very well spent.
6
Great video and channel. I always enjoy watching your videos. Keep up the great work. One place that would be cool for you to make a video about is Fontana dam it’s just outside of Bryson city, North Carolina and the lake was put there in the 1940s and towns were flooded it would be a really cool video about another flooded reservoir. I used to live right by Fontana lake, and when they would let it down, you would see train Trussell‘s and house foundations
6
Ryan you are becoming a Chicago legend yourself.
6
Keep up the good work love the videos
6
I have the book you shown and many others related. Victorians are one of my favorite architectural styles in homes. Thanks for this great video on the history.
6
Keep them videos coming
6
Ryan, you are amazing!!! I ❤ this channel and appreciate all the work you put into creating it! You're my favorite Chicagoan! 😁
6
I remember underground Atlanta when I use yo visit my family here all the time. But it was still here when I first moved to Atlanta in 2002. Great video, I never knew any of this, and I didn't know they revamped it. I don't go downtown that much.
6
Can you do a video on East New York, Brooklyn? I've always wondered the history of it there, especially New Lots Ave.
6
Its history has always fascinated me.

I can't fully explain this place. My friend's goal who brought me there was to watch me mentally crack. She admits she enjoys watching every crack in this place. Don't let the homes and gardens fool you, they're a small percentage of what is housed in this place. Yes the house is kinda cool and old schooly, but everything else hiding behind the scenes is just ludicrous!. Go back to the image at 0:09 and all those warehouses are part of the experience. Beyond the house is just vast amounts of STUFF. Each warehouse is a different theme and it just keeps getting crazier and crazier. After a certain point my brain was just like, "what is all this!?!??! He's just a gigantic hoarder!". I recall one place that had the same set of tea pots at least 500 times over. Creepy mannequins all dressed up to "play" instruments. A carousel that been chopped and put back together again with other mannequins. A room that's just full of musical organ parts all over the place. And SO MUCH MORE. Again, it's hard to just explain it all and what it's all supposed to mean. It took me a day to decompress from the place cause it really just didn't make sense to me at all.
