  5. I used to be Marine LAAD. We did a lot of training with the artillery and the coolest thing I ever did was call for fire. There was this set of "binoculars," but describing it as such would be an incredible understatement. One would simply look through them and immediately receive a firing solution. Of course, this was doulbe-cross-checked with GPS and math by the gun crews, but the amount of firepower available to one person is truly incredible. I finished the call for fire and waited. Maybe it was 30 seconds or a minute (the guns were relatively close), and the entire target area exploded. I'd never seen anything like that before. FOs and JTACs must be the coolest people in the entire military.

  9. I don't think Israel bombed the hospital parking lot. Israel's guides bombs land within 1–5m of their targets. They are between 90kg and 250kg. Anything that size will leave a crater. Judging from these pictures, there is no crater. Hamas uses unguided rockets, which are less reliable and much less accurate. They also have very small warheads which would not leave a crater. Israel has the least to gain from bombing a hospital and the most to lose. Hamas has the most to gain by bombing a hospital and the least to lose—in fact, they wouldn't lose anything.

  48. Yes, you're wrong. All of these have proximity fuses, and will not detonate inside the aircraft unless something goes wrong. Guns are also much shorter range. Aircraft typically cruise between 30k and 37k feet, which is well beyond where AA guns can hit without getting very, very big.
