  48. The most insane thing I was ever a part of as a Marine was when our LAAD unit trained with some artilleryman. We were driving on the sides of cliffs in the desert at night. But wait, it gets better: they're towing M777s, so braking is absolutely not an option, and furthermore, we were doing 40 miles per hour and the dust cloud that kicked up made visibility beyond the hood of your truck literally zero. The only way this works is if everyone agrees to drive exactly 40 miles epr hour at all times no matter what. It probably helped thst both our units were stationed in Pendleton, so this was kinda' how you have to drive in the I-5, anyway, but Jesus fucking christ, I have never been more sure I would die in my life than when the convoy was halted and the dust settled with a big fucking cannon about 4 inches from my front bumber and a 7-ton about the same distance from my rear.
