  1. I appreciate that you're encouraging your audience to respect the Chinese military. In the past, we've underestimated Asian countries and paid for it with lives (Japan and Vietnam, specifically). They're smart. Definitely smart enough to realize that they would be unlikely to build something from scratch and expect it to do as well as tested designs, so they copy. Their lack of experience, too, will become less important if a war happens. Do not forget that upon entering WWI and WWII, the US was incredibly green and had equipment and tactics horribly unprepared for what they would face, but within a year, we were doing fine. Same will go for China.

  10. Not just the 30s. In fact, it wasn't until 1940 that guns bigger started to become commonplace. Up to that point, 45mm, 37mm, and 2-pounder were considered very capable guns.

  15. I think the M16 with a 16 inch barrel would've been great. I like having more bullets. I feel like going forward, like not in COIN, more bullets will be more important than more lethal bullets bc artillery and air will be doing most of the killing.

Uh, if by extremely close, you mean 15cm, then yeah, sure, but Idc how cool knives are, in a fight between two equally skilled people with those weapons, dude with a knife is NEVER getting past the sword. It just won't happen. It's like bringing a pistol to a rifle fight and charging across 300m to shoot the gut with the rifle; it won't work unless dude with a rifle is incompetent as all hell.

  19. The T-72A, sure, but the T-72 has a lot of variants and some of them are extremely capable by any standard, such as the T-72B3. It's not really fair to compare the T-72 to NATO MBTs because their doctrine is completely different. Almost every vehicle they can field has ATGMs, too. Also consider that Russian equipment is designed to be exported to anyone on any budget.

  23. I don't think many people join the military to die or serve their country. At the end of the day, it's a job like any other, and there is no such thing as a labor shortage—only a wage shortage. If China wanted a bigger army, they could pay for it, but they don't.

When you reference him, you need to take into account that his clients are mostly boomers in business, so he will say things that sound good to them. He assumes that GenZ, Millennials, and Gen Alpha will continue to be slaves to the boomers and that just isn't true. He assumes that GenZ and Millennials will have children as fast as their parents did, and that definitely isn't true, but he never acknowledges that. TLDR: The man is a geographic determinist who willfully neglects cultural factors when they do not support his thesis.

  44. Sikorsky 's is my pick bc it looks like the kind of platform that could be turned into a proper attack helicopter. Also, it's literally the AH-56 with modern parts. Way better design, especially considering the Sikorsky design can land in more places.

  47.  @garhent  Yeah, this whole overdependence on our aircraft is going to be our Achilles heel. Our potential enemies have invested everything in countering aircraft and we've let our army and marine equipment fall decades behind. Our software is very good but you can only upgrade an outdated vehicle so much. Like, it wasn't even that long ago that the Marines were doing shoot and scoot with M-777s. They didn't even replace it; just decided to only use the HIMARS. Better solution: suck it up and buy the Archer. Army ha the same problem with IFVs: buy German or Swedish equipment. They've been building equipment to specifically counter Russian doctrine for the last 60+ years and we haven't given it the same attention bc we've been everywhere at once for the last half century.
