One of the things that makes your channel special is that you do show yourself learning stuff. A couple of years back you did something on your first steps in welding, and that was interesting. You manage the neat feat of showing a reality-based glamorous workshop, and learning stuff with fancy nails is an important part of that. Welding, please.

@SarahnTuned Of course it was. Crows used to play rugby, but then they heard about brain injuries and switched codes.

So nice to see you appreciating a silly car after the steroidal muscle cars and expedition-grade off roaders you normally test. And you don't even live in the city, where electric cars really win.

@Freon1969 Clean floor, clean cats' feet.

@wbwayne8887 I don't really see the thing about phone charging cables. They breed in the back of drawers.

What makes this is the way Sarah comes in with a box of random hardware, nuts, bolts, clips, and indescribables, with a smile on her face like someone has given her the best ever jigsaw puzzle.

For sparsely populated areas, the answer is almost certainly net-zero-carbon fuel for an ICE. But the ICE could be part of a series-hybrid power train, so you still get the wonder of electric motor(s) turning the wheels.

The Toyota hybrid drive has always seemed very complicated; but pretty much every taxi in my town is a Toyota hybrid, so I guess it's reliable. Digital rear view mirrors are odd: I had a car with one, and it felt weird and I couldn't work out why. Then I realised that when I checked the rear while driving, I had to refocus: with an actual mirror, the image is a long way away, samish distance as you're focused on for driving. But a digital screen is only a metre away, so you have to refocus. Especially tiring as you age, and accommodation goes down. Pity, because you can get a much better field of view with a camera.

This is true, but I think people have some doubts about relying to much on regenerative braking on a rear-wheel drive only car; you wouldn't want too much braking at the back unless you wanted to do handbrake turns. Of course, the engineers have got the balance worked out, but it's a thought.

@Neojhun Thanks. I'd thought it was likely they'd sorted it out. Mind you, I drive a series hybrid and love one-pedal driving, but I think that still, when you hit the brake pedal, you ought to get brakes, immediately.

So glad to see that Squid is making his own entertainment, and not demanding that you buy him toys.

Best of luck with the product line.

New Cleaning Machine Makes Sarah Happy.

Well, old school cars included things like Bugattis and the Citroen SM, with which this might be compared.

I really liked the Goth bride with plastic (dirty) train.

First shot of the new respirator hood in pristine white: Nuns In Space, a blockbuster coming to a theater near you.

Everybody can celebrate the solstice. Though here in the Southern Hemisphere, it means the days are getting shorter, it's still the solstice. Solsticial felicitations, everybody.

What to get a gal for Valentine's Day? Her own fork lift (Swarowski crystals optional).

Please get someone to look at your foot. Thirty years ago I was stage manager of a show, and dropped a thunder-sheet on my right big toe. I can still feel where it landed, on a bad day. I should have had it looked at.

Brake test. Look of mild disappointment. "How was it for you?" "Average."
2
That makes sense. I wondered if it was designed to squish you up against the roof for total immobilisation.

It seems that EV batteries are lasting longer than was first thought. Here in NZ, ten year old Leafs still get some kind of a price, despite having small batteries to start with. And they don't fall off a cliff, but get reduced capacity--which means they have enough capacity for a classic use case for an EV, daily commuting and pottering around the suburbs. There's always someone who says "Nobody wants EVs. I commute from Butte to Butte once a week." But there aren't too many people doing that, while there's loads of people banging round the burbs in mighty trucks. All that said, the Leaf has always been a car for people who aren't into cars, but want a transport appliance. Which is really quick away from the traffic lights. If you're daily driving doesn't include traffic lights, it's probably not the car for you.

2:25 "exhowst"; when we get a "shport exhowst" we will be back in the Rhineland.

The real measure of this car is the combination of girlish glee and f-bombs. Authentic muscle car, evidently.
2
Thank you for taking us through the long dark wiring loom of the soul.
2
I was thinking how much happier you seemed in this video, and then you say the car is capable of improving your mental health. Yup, evidently.

So if you want to know how a great big American truck turns out after a dose of European luxury brand hand finishing, keep on watching.

UV hardening plastics: a more inclusive example might be the gunk the dentist sticks in you tooth, and why you have to wear yellow shades to have your teeth done. Those Japanese fender mirrors are great. We used to see a lot of them in New Zealand on used imports, but then the regulations changed and no more legal. Alas.

"Base model brunette." Is that a thing? Or rather, was that a thing before now?

Thank you for a great year. As a professional data user, investigate RAID storage as a way of protecting yourself against loss of files if a disk goes west. Happy 2023.

Enjoyed that. One comment on video rear-view mirrors. I have one on my humble Nissan, and I discovered I found it slightly uncomfortable to use. It's not the image quality, which is fine. I think it's eye accommodation. With a mirror, the image of the car behind is a long way away from you (as far away as the car is). With an image on a screen, you have to shift focus for near objects. It's probably more of a problem for me, because I'm old af, but I was surprised to find I don't use the camera view for normal driving, only backing up. I'm very glad those shots on the road show that you were driving that car as responsibly as a senior citizen: we all know the performance is only there to get you out of trouble in emergencies.

I misheard "tuner ready" and wondered for a moment where the reference to catfood came from.

One reason why vehicles are getting higher is aging populations. As I have got older and fatter, and my knees get worse and worse, I get happier with a high seating position. Also, of course, the SUV mania. But in many parts of the world the market for new small cars is very largely the elderly and frankly old, and we like our seats higher. But we don't need SUVs. Tip: if you or a loved one are having trouble getting in and out of a car, I have found nothing (and I've looked) better than the Toyota Porte and Spade. They're only differentiated by styling, and of course JDM only and now discontinued, but if you're in a RHD country, worth looking for.

I guess it figures that a cat lady would like a Corolla. 😉

Assemble your sewing machine. Test it. Spend two hours on the internet discovering how it should have been made at the factory. Modify ill-made parts, using your years of experience in the fastidious restoration of motor cars. Learn to sew. Suitable for ages 11 up.

Very nice to see a sensible car properly appreciated. I am used to small Japanese cars, and I must say a turbo 1200cc motor seems a little small for a car that size--but, with an auto you'll keep up with the traffic.

Sarah says "bitchin." Evidently, deeply moved.

- How is the acceleration? Eyes close in pain.

I preferred the old scoring reveal, with a whiteboard and marker. The tech way feels impersonal, and a bit corporate. I can't believe a vehicle like this has any rational excuse for its existence, but I really enjoy watching you taking it places it didn't expect to go.

With Sarah on Safari in the hunt for faults and errors. Fascinating.

With that upholstery, after a long drive you'd have the manufacturer's name in mirror writing embossed on your butt. Surprising that what is obviously a city car (and in the city, one pedal driving is great) is merely a bit disappointing in Arizona. Compare with driving a 4x4 truck in an Italian city.
1
I'm thinking about the range figures, and two reasons why Sarah's numbers are so much lower than the maker's figures. 1. Sarah is quicker than your average driver; enjoys acceleration. 2. Sarah drives in Arizona: electric drive trains (pure EV or hybrid) show their best in cities, where the constant acceleration and deceleration gives lots of regeneration. A hybrid makes no sense for driving long distances at constant speed, but it's great in town. An EV won't get it's best mileage on the open road.

4:35 "miniature ferret"; the animal you are looking for is the least weasel, a mustelid that can go through a wedding ring and probable rates the highest for predatoriness per gram in the whole animal kingdom.

Write it down to the problems of working alone. You don't beat up on yourself when you need help to lift stuff. Having some one to check your work is just as important, and you didn't have that, and a mistake slipped through. Mistakes are inevitable, and you can't catch all of your own mistakes (as I know, sadly). BTW, Boeing needs to be told this, too.

That was a very engaging video. I like the look of the car in bare metal--all F-86.

Dear Sarah, I am concerned about your penguins banging their heads under your truck. You should get them some head protection, like maybe cute bicycle helmets. Not construction workers' helmets, unless you are planning on a penguin Village People tribute band. That could be quite interesting, but.

Happy New Year. I like your videos at 15 min plus a smidge.

In this review, the level of apprehension before the brake test was very high, and the comment on it enigmatic.

Put on the graphics. If the lucky winner doesn't like them, they can take them off.
