The way I see it, all the bad stuff was coming regardless of who the President was, and if anything, he's only improved conditions. Also, the invasion of Ukraine had nothing to do with the US, that was entirely on Russia.

  16. They don't think it will fix everything, but they do think it will fix some of the problems people are having. That is why there are many other components to the relief bill that work to fix various other Covid-related problems, and the door is open to additional bills if that is insufficient. It's like the CARES act last year, that was never intended to be a permanent fix, it was intended as a short term boost to keep people afloat, with the intention of passing several more similar bills over the course of 2020. It was only the Republicans in the Senate that kept future bills from moving forward.

  20.  rockn roll  There were some cases on the west coast, but the way viruses work is they don't just grow evenly, they spread from points of contact, so the more points of contact, the quicker is spreads. We know based on DNA sampling that the outbreaks on the East Coast came through Europe, so if Europe had never gotten it, or those infected people had never come to America, the US still would have had outbreaks, but the spring ones would mostly have been on the West Coast, and outbreaks in the eastern states would have happened later, and perhaps been more manageable because there would have been more time to prepare for them. I don't blame Europe, a virus is a virus, I just think it's silly to "localize" a pandemic in the first place.

  21.  rockn roll  Quite possible, or a European on business/vacation. Realistically it was probably dozens of people, given how quickly it spiked in NYC. Either way I don't blame the people who brought it one bit, they were probably asymptomatic and would have no way of knowing. This was a federal response issue, not the fault of any individuals just going about their lives.

There are bills that are "must pass," that without passing them there is either a government shut-down, or the military gets defunded, or something like that. This is not that, there are no such strings in this bill, and if it fails to pass, there just wouldn't be covid relief that Americans need. If you don't want there to be covid relief, like the Republicans, then you can just not vote for it.

  42.  Hook ‘Em  No states kept their schools closed last year. A lot of school systems kept in person schools closed, but that does not mean that their expenses dropped considerably. They still had to pay for the teachers, they still had to pay upkeep on the buildings (whether they were using them or not), etc. Overall cost of schools was up significantly over a normal year, and at the same time tax revenues were way lower, so the funding that would pay for a normal year just wasn't there. That's why added funding is needed.
