Russia attacks it's neighbours, russifies them, takes away their independence, persecutes its citizens, commits genocide and then wonders why said neigbours don't want a repeat.

Ukraine has experienced a taste of what freedom feels like and it's not going to let go of it lightly.

When Lex in the intro claimed that Putin loves his country, I decided that the interview wouldn't be worth watching. Zelenskyy's response (laughter) was brilliant. One other point... Zelenskyy's english is excellent.
88
Brilliant and informative conversation. Thank you.

I also think Trump holds a grudge against Zelensky, and additionally, Trump, being morally bankrupt, he respects strength for any reason. He sees strength in putin and weakness in Zekensky. He likes bullies.
26
Does pootin not understand what NATO is? NATO can not "pull back".
23
@jeffhicks8428 What coup?
21
I've never liked the way some folk spin the issue of the so called "NATO expansion". There is no movement. NATO is not a thing that gets bigger or moves around. It's simply a defence agreement between nations who fear Russia's aggression. Russia has enjoyed lying about NATO and bashing it endlessly, but his own actions have confirmed beyond any doubt the importance of such a treaty. It's no surprise that membership is growing. But that's not the same as saying "NATO is moving east" as some would have it.

An absolutely fantastic discussion and a great guest.

Rubbish!

Russia in 2022 was flush with cash and feeling confident and aggressive. China is in the opposite position with a struggling ecomomy. China's only hope is to trade its way out of that hole, and it needs a stable and prosperous global economy to do that. Additionally, China now knows how the West will react should it start its own war, and with China already being on the back foot financially, it would likely be reticent to make Putin's mistakes.

@tgriffin3059 You're living in a dream world. Trump is hated and his popular support is crashing. Most Americans didn't vote for him anyway.
15
The point you make @ 24:25 is exactly how I felt when I saw those crowds. How could those people embrace such a scumbag? I don't understand it.
13
Thank you for another great discussion with a great guest.
12
It's not really so much about trust as it is about obtaining military support, and that's going to be subject to the politics of the day. And that's not limited to dealing with the US. Germany, for instance, is another case. If the US Congress were to lose a couple of the Republicans, then military aid would no doubt restart. Bottom line, the log-jam is really down to one man's political games.
11
One of the people on that panel was particularly despicable (the guy with the beard).
11
Great observation about Times Radio. I've found them to be overly pessimistic toward Ukraine's chances of winning. Too many of their guests speakers are pessimists. This channel is better by far.
9
Fantastic guest. Thanks to both of you.
9
It's also Russia's fault. We should be careful about how much we beat ourselves up of this. Yes, I get it. Ukraine needs more weapons and they need them yesterday, but all of these deaths are due to ruzzia's barbaric unprovoked invasion. Let's not forget that.
9
Another great interview.
9
Dozens of countries have supported Ukraine, including mine with my tax dollars. What you may not realise is that most of the tax dolars Americans contribute goes straight back into American business. Not only that, your small contribution (and mine) is helping to prevent a full blown ww3.
9
I was thinking the same. If Trump offers nothing, then ignore him.
8
I don't think any large grouping of people will ever agree 100%. It's human nature.
8
Love the Noam Chomsky comments. Can't remember ever agreeing with anything the man ever said on geopolitics. It's almost as if he's come under some kind of Russian influence, perhaps as child? His anti west anti American bias is very odd. Almost fanatical.
8
Most Russians wouldn't know why they're fighting. Ukrainians understand very well.
8
Thanks for coming on.
8
Wow, the trolls are biting today. Jonathan... you and your wonderful guest must have hit a raw nerve.
8
I'm not trying to be a dick but your comments regarding the UK are irrelevant. I've seen this kind of argument a lot, but I don't see the point. Russia stands or falls based on its merits. Whether Russia is good, bad, or whatever can be determined by the relevant evidence. Yes, other countries do bad stuff and dumb stuff and worse stuff, but that isn't relevant to the Russia argument. Sorry for the rant.
8
Fascinating discussion. Thank you.
8
Prigozhin's latest rant won't be popular with the trolls.
8
YT is effectively preventing open and honest discussion.
8
Russia just seems to lie about everything. I didn't know much about the region before the 2022 invasion, but since then I've learned a lot and I'm shocked by how bad Russia actually is.
7
@mitchyoung93 Any evidence to support that claim, or do you always make wild generalisations?
7
The western support is of course invaluable but slowness of getting the support into Ukrainian hands is in large part responsible for Ukraine's "slow progress" now.
7
Disingenuous question. We all know where you're heading with this... So, why not ask about doing same for Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Sweden, Greece and similar countries... right?
7
Brilliant guest. I thouroughly enjoyed this.
7
He's been a moron for as long as I've known of him.
7
Or he could stay in NATO but offer no support. Bad news either way.
7
Right out of the gate your guest (perhaps inadvertently) muddies the water a little on what the US goal is in Ukraine. Yes, the US wants to weaken Russia, but "weakening Russia" and "expelling Russia from Ukraine" are not mutually exclusive goals. I've heard this kind of argument many times. I feel it's somewhat disingenuous. Both are good goals. There could be any number of goals, all possible simultaneously or overlapping etc.
6
Trolls are getting worried, right? LOL
6
@Fubar2024 Where would all of the extra weapons and equipment come from? You can frame is as "drip drip", but weapons, especially shells, they need to be made before they can be sent. It all sounds easy from the comfort of a keyboard, but not in reality. Have you seen how much work there is involved in manufacturing a 155mm shell or a tank? Keep in mind also that the West can only supply surplus weapons, else they'll become vulnerable. Why? Because most of the west has been underspending for a decade. There is a weapons shortage, especially so outside of the US which is currently fixated on the election. Realise that if the Democrats lose (which is still very possible) then we're in Trump territory... and that could be very bad news for Ukraine. It won't be "drip drip", it'll be a full on drought.
6
@ozymandias5130 Not really. Too much is being made of what was really nothing much. There was no formalised structure in the way NATO was formalised, for instance. That said, Ukraine is being supported. Yes, more would be better, but you whine about no support, etc.... and don't forget, ruzzia broke it first.
6
He says the same thing each time because what he says is right. And you do realise this is a repost of his old interviews? You do know that, right?
6
Could be wrong but I don't think many people outside of Europe knew much about Ukraine before Feb 2022. Never much coverage on mainstream media in my country. I thought Ukraine was part of Russia... not that I had given it much thought though. Probably Russian propaganda seeping through. That's all changed now and I am very much in support of Ukraine.
6
Instead of bashing America, would you please be a little more nuanced. America supports Ukraine. Most members of Congress support Ukraine. Biden supports Ukraine. What we have right now is a logjam caused by a few, and I believe we all know who they are. The whole situation could flip if the Republicans lose the support of two more members.
6
They probably won't pay, but if they do, it'll be small payments spread over decades at best.
6
In terms of joining NATO, who knew how long it would take for Sweden to join, and Sweden is/was miles ahead of where Ukraine is now. The idea that we can have a nicely laid out path for Ukraine into NATO while at war seems rather fanciful. There's too much overly optimistic talk about this which raises false hopes along the way. The focus must stay on Ukraine winning the war. The rest might follow, though even that looks shaky at this time. It only takes one "no" vote and we already have those. I hope Ukraine joins but there are a lot of hurdles to jump before that happens.
6
Excellent guest.
6
Another great discussion. Thank you.

No European weapons manufacturers should be sitting idle. That would be outrageous and almost negligent given the current situation.
