  11. We do think. All of these criticisms are easy in hindsight. Russia is a loose cannon. No one knows what it will do next. It's been like that for decades.. perhaps centuries. I can still vividly remember the 80's nuclear threat. I can still feel the euphoria of the wall falling and thinking how at last many more people will experience freedom. But Russia persists in being an unpredictable bully.

  16. Ukraine needs to become as self reliant as possisible and as fast as possible. The US political system is fickle and unreliable. Europe is pathetic... all talk and no action. Trump had that right. Not much else, but his criticism of NATO was timely.

  19. How? There isn't an infinite number of potential buyers on this planet. They've lost their biggest markets already and it's the same with gas. That's not coming back any time soon. Those countries who do buy Russian oil are getting it cheap. Last I looked, Urals was trading at $54.

As for "the writing on the wall", Russia has gained nothing and lost a lot since late 2022. For one thing, Russia occupies less Ukrainian territory than it did in 2022. It has failed to push Ukraine out of Kursk. It has burned through most of the soviet stockpile and its economy is very sick and out of cash.

  23. That's correct. No one knows nor can they predict an end date. As well, no one can design a stratedegy with a predictable end date nor provide a predicable outcome. That's the nature of war. I thonk Biden and others want Ukraine to win but there's no stragy for it because there can't be, plus all politicians are limited by the political environment they opperate in. We're seeing some of that right now with the Republicans messing around and looking somewhat pro pootin.

  27. It's easy to knock NATO and other countries for incremental weapon supply but has everyone forgotten that Russia has a huge nuclear weapons arsenal? I suspect this is always present in the minds of those making the decisions. I for one am still nervous about it. I don't believe Russia is a rational player. Nothing is off the table.

It's groups of people within... the group who want strikes on oil refinaries to stop are not the same group who are blocking aid, and neither of said groups are the ones who actually support Ukraine. Its a symptom of the dysfunctional nature of U.S. politics.

Some of the things Lex said were downright offensive and come direct from the russian propagandist playbook. With an audience the size his is, and bearing in mind that he'd have a sizeable audience from the maga mob, truth should have been his highest priority. Clearly, it wasn't. On the plis side, it gave Zelenskyy a great opportunity to speak about Russia's barbarity, etc.

  48. I support Ukraine and want to see it join NATO and the EU, but talk about Ukraine being invited into NATO now while at war simply makes no sense. NATO doesn't want to fight Russia. The descision of whether to bring Ukraine into NATO now is equivalent NATO deciding to fight Russia now. NATO could put boots on the ground now. NATO could sink the Black sea fleet now. NATO could provide air superiority to Ukraine now. It could do all of this wuthout Ukraine joining NATO. But it doesn't want to. The incremental supply of weapons is in part related to all of this, but it's also due in part to countries in peace time seeing an unexpected war occur on their doorstep and not really knowing how to handle where there is a background of underfunding militaries. Even Trump pointed out the funding shortfalls. We're now paying the price.
