I am supposing Spain, where I live, should be on the lookout for some fallout by tripling its contribution to UNRWA after the European Union froze the EU's annual contribution until after the investigation of four employees. Also, this week, according to a report in the Middle East Monitor (MEMO), at a meeting of the Council of Ministers it was announced that Spain will contribute to the International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor’s Office in the investigation of mass human rights violations in Gaza to hold those responsible to account before the court. As part of this commitment, the ICC Prosecutor’s Office Trust Fund will receive €500,000 in 2024, the report adds. The International Court of Justice Prosecutor’s Office, headed by Prosecutor Karim Khan since June 2021, is one of the four organs of the ICC investigating genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.

According to THE IRISH TIMES the Taoiseach Simon Harris has accused Israel of “an extremely egregious breach of international law” after the United Nations confirmed the Israel Defense Forces had deliberately fired on UN positions and peacekeepers in southern Lebanon. While The Daily Telegraph attributes the power of speech to a country writing, "Ireland, which contributes several hundred soldiers to the force, said targeting peacekeepers was “reprehensible and unacceptable”. I can find no mention of David Lammy making mention of any of the incidents. Should I be surprised?

Onlookers were outraged and were heard to remark that it was not supposed to be there. It was a German-built Israeli Sa'ar 6-Class corvette. The type used to shell families in Gaza.   19. We in Spain produce nearly all our own food although it is common to see produce from Latin America such as bananas and grapes from Peru in their season. Can you imagine when I got home from the supermarket recently how surprised I was to discover the bag of potatoes I bought had come from Israel? I felt bad at my stupidity. I will be more vigilant in future. (Yes, they tasted good.)

  23.  @Willywin  Like Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, and Sweden, the Irish Free State was neutral in WWII. Do not confuse neutrality of siding with one side or another. Bear in mind that Ireland had just been through a bloody civil war just like Spain. Neither country could risk reopening domestic hostilities. Try to be less jingoistic and show some appreciation of history.

I have believed since the beginning of Sir Keir Starmer's election as Leader of New Labour that come the election people should vote strategically by choosing the top vote-getter next in line from the last election rather than voicing now a blanket endorsement of a particular party which is one way to waste a vote. I used to be loyal to a party before I realized I was a socialist. Now, I think it is best to go for an individual who can keep out either the Tories or New Labour. For example, if I lived in St Ives I would be in a Conservative seat represented by Derek Thomas with a majority of 4,280. The person to vote for would be the one who came 2nd who was Andrew George of the Liberal Democrats. Labour came 3rd. It would be a bad mistake to join the Green Party, for e.g. because their candidate, Ian Flindall, who managed to get less than 2% of the vote as against 41% for the Liberals who last held the seat in 2010. The choice is clear. The Liberals can take the seat.

  42. Starmer mentions having an unquestioned mandare not twice but five times (2:36). He would not have said the word "mandate" so often if he really thought he had one but he knows he can get away with this because the British people will believe him and all his ministers who have been told to mention the word mandate in every sentence when being interviewed. At least we are being spared the self-destructed Jonathan Ashworth who would have been impossible to avoid on tv and radio repeating the word mandate. But getting only a third share of the vote in any other country which has a democracy would not constitute having even a weak mandate.
